ScrapBook

About ScrapBook:
So you have hundreds if not thousands of hours on World of Warcraft right? Well what do you have to show for it? Sure your character may look pretty awesome, but that isn't very relevant if your trying to figure out what you got done last week.

ScrapBook is designed to take the most candid snapshots of your ongoing adventures in the World of Warcraft.
It takes a snapshots on specified intervals (defaulting to every 10 mins), leaving a watermark in the upper left and right corners with your characters name, realm, guild, rank, level, current xp, location, and a time stamp.

Google Screensavers works great with this addon when running a 'Cross Fade' of photos from your screenshots folder. You will find lots of mid-combat shots of PvE, PvP, and Raids. Many of which are humors or very cool looking at the least.
Current Features:
  • Automatic Snapshots via Time Interval
  • Manual Snapshots via Slash Command
  • Watermarks with detailed information
  • Option to hide the UI while taking a snapshot
  • Option to display a warning before a snapshot is taken
  • Auto-Disable while Resting or AFK

Requirements:
  • None

Slash Commands:
  • /ScrapBook
  • /sb (Open the Options Panel)
  • /sb go (force a snapshot anytime)

An option to hide name plates is a must. They look goofy with hidden UI.

Watermark for manual shots

I bound a key to the manual shots as I take lots of photos. I've been using Fraps but this has the awesome watermark feature. However I was very sad to see that with the manual takes it does not add the watermark.

Can that be added sometime?

Nancy

Ok figured it out. You have to set it to remove the UI and THEN it puts the watermark on! Woot!

Is it possible to add a feature that would take a picture when I receive an achievement or kill a boss? I have tried multishot(screenshot) but I like your addon more.

A few ideas

I am not currently playing WoW, and have not tried your addon in game (but did look at the code), but I love the idea, and please forgive anything that might be already in the addon.

Denoted are a few ideas I have that you may use, if you like:

1) Toggle names with the CVar (list of CVars at http://www.wowwiki.com/Console_variables#Interface), via SetCVar(), making sure to return the name states to what they were before the screene (e.g. if they have names off, then screen shot takes, do not toggle the names)

2) LDB feed displaying the countdown to next shot (info at http://wiki.github.com/tekkub/libdatabroker-1-1)

3) Toggleable options for each element in the screen shot, so the user can hide the text not wanted in the shot

4) A layer of color behind the text; as shown in some of your screen shots, the text is not very readable with some colored backgrounds

5) Names, classes, and levels of the current party/raid members (could even have stats like alive/dead count) in screen shot

6) x an y cords via GetPlayerMapPosition()

7) Toggle to use server or local time

8) Take multiple screen shots in rapid secession, on adjacent OnUpdate()s, with different layers shown (e.g. first with full ui, then without any text,
next with the player and location info, etc.), so the user may have the same screenshot with different ui layers active

9) Unique sound for the warning via PlaySoundFile() or PlaySound(). For a custom sound, I like the Zelda sounds at
http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/

10) Display the name and hp count of the boss in combat with, if in a boss fight

11) Different options for capture intervals (triggered in amount or minutes): a) in party or raid or solo b) in the world or in an instance or resting c) indoors or outdoors d) in combat or out of combat or combat with a boss e) when zoning via load screen, zone, or sub-zone f) when boss is slain
g) PvP h) death of player, group member, wipe, or target

12) Having "Level: " before the players' level count is redundant

13) Option for positioning/anchoring the text (e.g. top/bottom, one line/several lines)

14) Name of active 'pet' (hunter/warlock companion, MC, vehicle, etc.) in the displayed text

15) Name of current target in the displayed text

Please update to the latest version.
If the problem still occurs, try resetting the ScrapBook interface data.
In-game type /ScrapBook. In the lower left-hand corner of the Interface panel, click the grey 'Defaults' button. A confirmation will pop-up. Select 'These Settings'.

Not sure if anything can be done about it, but I have an issue where if I am Alt Tabbed when the interval to take a screen-shot turns up, it hides the UI and gets stuck there.
I believe I know the source of this issue, I should have it updated by tomorrow evening.

It's easily fixed by first pressing ALT+Z then pressing enter, typing in /sb go, forcing the mod to take another shot and setting it right, but annoying none the less. Just a heads up, thanks for the wonderful mod!

Great!!!

Thank you both for analyzing and fixing this so quickly!

I love this addon, as it always helps remembering what I have been doing in Azeroth for all these hours I am "missing" in my real life! ;-)

After updating to version 3.1.2.25 and trying out the option to not hide the UI when a screenshot is taken it seems that it resets the value to its default state when logging back in.

Checking ScrapBook.lua in the accounts SavedVariables folder after logging out it appears to save the state correctly, however on loading a toon the state is rewritten.

Had a quick look through the code but can't seem to figure out what could be causing it.

Note: Just tested with no other addons active and it is still doing it.

Edit: After reading Hapepe82's comment I can confirm that it happens on all checkboxes.

Edit 2: After a little more testing it seems that the the settings are correct until the following code in the ScrapBook.LoadSettings function is executed, after execution the values are reset to default (true).
Code:
	ScrapBookSettings.enabled = ScrapBookSettings.enabled or true;
	ScrapBookSettings.hideui = ScrapBookSettings.hideui or true;
	ScrapBookSettings.warn = ScrapBookSettings.warn or true;

Are you sure that the new options get properly stored?

Everytime I change them (switch them off) they are activated again after restarting WoW. This is a little annoying ;-)
