TipTop  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.14
by: Seerah [More]

In my quest to find the perfect tooltip mod, I decided to create my own and have a learning experience. Thus, TipTop was born. TipTop seeks to modify the default tip instead of replace it.

Known Issue: the disappearing/flickering tooltip issue is on Blizzard's end. People have been reporting the issue with various tooltip addons as well as with only the default UI. There are several posts about it on the Technical Support forums, but no blue response that I know of so far.

Update: the Blizzard bug may have something to do with quickly mousing over minimap tracking icons at the edge of your minimap. Try mousing over another tracking icon to try to bring back the tooltip.

Apparently, my comments are a magnet for bug reports and feature requests, despite the buttons for them to the right to put them on my portal, the FAQ saying to put them on my portal (with links even!), and repeated requests in the comments section to put them at my portal. So I'll put it here in big, colorful, bold letters.

FEATURE REQUESTS AND BUG REPORTS NEED TO BE PUT ON MY PORTAL. IF YOU PUT THEM IN MY COMMENTS, THEY WILL MOST LIKELY BE FORGOTTEN AND/OR IGNORED.
I appreciate the time that you take to report bugs and request things, but please appreciate the time/effort that it takes me to go through them and remember them, and please just put them in the correct location.

Features:
  • optional class-colored border for units (optional support for !ClassColors)
  • optional difficulty-colored border for units
  • option to display class icon before unit's name in tooltip (off by default)
  • option to display guild rank (off by default)
  • added target text line
  • "faded" tip if unit is tapped, dead, or offline
  • custom border, background, and status bar textures
  • custom font selection, plus option of Outline, etc.
  • custom background color/alpha
  • custom health bar color, including class-colored
  • ability to move the tooltip or attach to cursor
  • can show health on statusbar in four different formats
  • health bar may be above or below the tooltip, or be contained inside the tooltip
  • item-quality colored border for items
  • raid icon display
  • added talent text line
  • displays (Rare), (AFK), and (DND) when possible, next to the unit's name
  • option to display elite/rare elite graphic for those units
  • adjust tip background alpha
  • SharedMedia support
  • each character has a choice of using either a global or character specific profile

FAQ:

Where are the options?
The options panel is located on the addons page of the Interface Options panel. Hit escape, go to Interface, click the AddOns tab, and you'll see TipTop listed there. You can also use the slash commands /tiptop or /tip

How do I move the tooltip?
In the TipTop config window, scroll down until you see the anchor settings. You may either anchor the mouse to the cursor, or to a side/corner of the screen. Note that x,y offsets only work when the tip is *not* anchored to the cursor. This is a limitation set by the game's API, and I will not code in the hacks that other tooltip addons use to get around this. I suggest using the alpha setting instead so the tip doesn't block your view so much.

I want the tooltip offset from the cursor - will you add it or is it bugged?
See above.

Where can I find more fonts/borders/bar textures?
For further font choices, I suggest the SharedMedia addon. Have a font you want to use that's not in there? Read the "Instructions for MyMedia.txt" file in the SharedMedia folder.

How can I give feedback?
Feel free to leave your comments/questions here, but all bug reports and feature requests need to go to my portal if you want me to remember to do them.

Can I use your code/textures?
All use of my code and custom textures separate from TipTop must be for your own personal use and they may not be redistributed separate from the addon. You may use snippets of my code in addons you intend to distribute only after receiving permission, and credit must be given.

Can I redistribute this addon?
My addons may only be redistributed in UI compilations, and any mention of the addon must point to its download page or my portal, both on wowinterface.

Do you accept cookies?
I love cookies! Unfortunately, they may turn to crumbs in the mail. Instead, you may donate to my cookie fund via PayPal.

Not really anywhere... Since I don't touch that line. You'll have to add the whole bit where it looks up the player's guild and compares it to the lines in the tooltip while scanning through yourself.

I REALLY think that this and the previous issue have to do with Grid (and VuhDuh, other mods that were doing the talent text spam). I can never seem to duplicate it. Even when I installed Grid. But I didn't install any plugins. Then again, I don't raid anymore, so I have limited opportunities to try testing. Could those of you with Grid try without any extra Grid modules enabled? Or with ONLY TipTop and Grid enabled? Hard to ask of you in a raid, I know, but I really don't know what's causing it.

Seerah, thanks so much for updating TipTop as much as you do, both with bugfixes and features. Great to have developers like you.

I was one of the people using Grid raid frames and having the error you fixed in 2.3:
"Fixed: talent text spamming the tooltip for some raid frames"

I downloaded 2.3 and tested it, and the above bug was indeed fixed for me. However, I'm having a new issue. Instead of being spammed by talent text, I'm spammed by the new "class icons" you've added in (and they spam horizontally, instead of vertically like the talent text). Yeah, I can disable the class icons for the time being (I'm thrilled you decided to add them in, however!).

I noticed with class icons disabled, nothing spams me anymore -- However, my tooltip gets stuck, and instead of the tooltip switching between the different targets I hover over on my raid frames, it will just keep displaying the original targets name/talent/health, etc., and won't ever actually change to the appropriate player.

I've also been occassionly getting this error since updating, when hovering over Grid while in combat:

Error: attempt to concatenate local 'text' (a nil value)
File: Interface\AddOns\TipTop\tiptop.lua
Line: 235
Count: Infinite

Hope this helps some!

Turn off the addon that does it. It's not TipTop.

From the FAQ on the download page and my Portal:
How do I move the tooltip?
In the TipTop config window, scroll down until you see the anchor settings. You may either anchor the mouse to the cursor, or to a side/corner of the screen. Note that x,y offsets only work when the tip is *not* anchored to the cursor. This is a limitation set by the game's API, and I will not code in the hacks that other tooltip addons use to get around this. I suggest using the alpha setting instead so the tip doesn't block your view so much.

I want the tooltip offset from the cursor - will you add it or is it bugged?
See above.

Would it be possible to allow offset values when attaching the tool tip to the mouse?

1. Feature requests belong on my portal for future reference.

2. Your request has absolutely nothing to do with a tooltip mod, despite its printing that info to the tooltip (which any addon can do) I'm not aware off the top of my head of an addon that already does what you are asking, but that's the job of a kill-tracker addon.

I just started using this mod, but so far I like it better then a lot of others I've tried to use. I wonder though if you would consider putting in some kind of mob count (so you could track how many times you've killed a mob on the tooltip)

I know you have a bug report for this - http://www.wowinterface.com/portal.p...bug&bugid=5131 - but it's a bit older and I just wanted to chime in here too and say I am having the same problem that Vellesta and bubblebop reported between Grid and TipTop. I love them both too much to get rid of either one, and I don't really know which one is at fault (I suspect Grid, because it even happens when Grid tooltips in combat are turned OFF), so I am living with it, but if it can be fixed on your end (since you're much more active than the Grid people) I'd be thrilled!

It doesn't get said enough so thank you so much for your simple, pretty mods.

I am also having the exact same issue as bubblebop. It may be worth noting, I've only noticed this when hovering over a frame in Grid while in combat.

First, I absolutely love this addon and have been using it for a long time -- thanks so much for providing it, updating it, and helping users with their issues so frequently.

I've scanned over these comments and have not seen anyone post with the same issue I'm having, as I believe it started with 2.0 (though possibly with 2.0.1).

To describe the issue -- when I simply mouse over raid or party unit frames and go back and forth between two or more player units which are in combat (doesn't happen when they are out of combat), the TipTop tooltip begins growing/duplicating the players' talent builds until, in some cases, the tooltip becomes giant! If I move my cursor off the player unit frames however, it "resets" the tooltip, and it goes back to normal, i.e. it only displays their talent build once. Again, I've only found this occurs when the raid or party members I am targetting are in combat.

And by the way, I am not receiving any error from this issue, either from TipTop or another addon. I haven't been receiving any errors from TipTop at all, actually.

*Edit* I didn't originally notice, but if you look at the screenshot, it shows I'm targetting a "Level 80 Blood Elf Mage", however the tooltip border is orange instead of light blue, and it's displaying "Talent: Feral Combat (0/58/15)" somehow.

It's sort of hard to explain, so I've provided a screenshot:
