Commands -
  • Type /ion to display a list of available commands, which are:
menu: Toggle the main menu

delete: Delete the currently selected bar

Wow, that would be amazing, with that feature, I'd say that I don't think there is another action bar capable of what all Macaroon! is, well with that addition.

Inline Aura

Put your attention on the middle picture example, for the Heals over time. Look at the Lifebloom spell, you see how the number on the bottom left is counting the spell duration, and the number on the bottom right shows the amount of stacks that are applied. All in all still looks pretty clean, what you think?

that's a heck of a lot to squeeze into one button, even if you sacrifice the cleanness of the look.

i'll take a look at how it looks in Inline Auras, if you can provide a link to the site for it. (i already tried looking it up on WoWInterface, and then on wow.curse.com, and got nothing in both searches.)

first off, sorry about the delayed reply.

now, you are talking about the Control bar, if i am not mistaken. (the bar that you use to control mobs you possess, and that you use to control vehicles) if so, then you want the following macros:

The 4.0 version I am working on has a much, much improved GUI to work with. Hopefully 4.0.1 will hit the live servers soon

However, you can use the slash commands to do the two things you ask very easily -

/mac create bar
/mac add 12

- will create a bar and add 12 buttons to it. There is a link on the download page to the official thread that explains more.

I'm giving this a try and trying to switch from Macrotexter. I like Macrotexter because it works with the default UI but it's getting old and unsupported and I need my super-big unlimited amount of macros.

But this addon is just confusing the heck out of me, config-wise. Is there a beginner tutorial about how to get set up, how to make a bar and get buttons on it, and then make all those buttons macros, etc? I basically wanna copy over my macros from Macrotexter. Pretty much every single button on my bar is a macro of some kind...

For example for Holy shield, in 1 button it shows in the bottom left hand Corner, how long the spell/buff last and in the bottom right hand corner how many charges are left to that application. And then centered you can have the cooldown of the ability uses still, and it looks clean.

The Cata version of Macaroon is really Macaroon 2.0 in some respects. I have so far elected to maintain the name of just "Macaroon" instead of "Macaroon2", which would load it as a completely new addon. However, that means that installing Macaroon in the same folder once 4.0 goes live (unless I figure something out) your old settings will get nuked. As always when using addons, back up your WTF folder

There can be misunderstandings concerning addons and memory usage. For a good overview, I highly suggest reading the article on www.vranx.com at the bottom of the page first.

Second, some people try to run very lean on memory and addons. I liken this to wanting to drive a Prius. It is a perfectly fine want, but you do sacrifice a few things, mainly horsepower and cool looks. If you want to drive a Lamborghini, however, expect to not save on gas. In this analogy, using more gas to do more cool stuff is like using more memory. To run macro's like Macaroon does, it has to do a lot of "emulation" of what Blizzard does behind the scenes with Blizzard macros on Blizzard buttons, which typically does not reflect in addon memory usage and Blizzard gets a free "pass" on this by players and subsequently any bar addon that recycles the Blizzard buttons like Dominos does (Dominos is an excellent addon for what it does, don't get me wrong, and Tuller is at the top 1% of addon authors)

I watch Macaroon's memory usage in testing and coding and yes it can get up there, as well as using more CPU than a typical bar addon. But again, it is running on 12 gas guzzling cylinders to achieve what it does, not on some hybrid electric 4-cylinder engine. I try to make Macaroon run as lean as it can given that as someone who myself uses Macaroon, I want a Lamborghini action bar addon and not a Prius. So yes, it will consume resources

Now, the amounts you mention are perfectly in-line with what I expect Macaroon to use. If you said you were spiking upwards to 100mb's of usage, then I would be concerned. Unless, of course, you have 300 buttons on the screen. Each button and bar made creates a small load on memory and CPU usage which can add up. I myself typically run with about 50-80 buttons created and have no issues with performance on a fairly middle-of-the-road almost 2 year-old computer. Now, there are ways for an addon to use memory that can affect FPS such as creating a lot of garbage and force it to be collected with a high frequency. I do not see this with my own installation and overall I do not hear of this happening. People do mention the higher memory usage, but that is because of what I explained above

As for latency, Macaroon does not do a whole lot to adversely affect that. Latency reflects the time it takes your computer to communicate with the Blizzard server and receive a response. Macaroon is not a comms addon, it does not talk to other users (like a dps or threat meter would) and that vast majority of work that it does is localized on your computer. About the only thing Macaroon does that adds a load on network communications is when you press a button it sends that request to the server. However, it is the same type of request any other button from the default UI or another addon would make and I have yet to see spamming a button adversely affect latency.

If you have latency issues during a raid, you will want to look at the addons like I mentioned above that communicate A LOT with other players. This can also include addons like Gearscore and such.

This all does not mean I do not want to hear of potential issues. The addon environment is always changing and there is of course things I can do to always improve on what I do with Macaroon. There are many areas where I could code it "better" and do often think about doing such an overhaul. But the time investment to do that is HUGE. When I first started coding addons I was surely a noob at it. And I have learned over time on how to do it better and better. Yet I see myself those "noob" mistakes in my own code, but to untie it would require more than I have right now. Overall, though, I think Macaroon runs very well for most users with typical setups. The only time I really ever saw an issue that I could not solve was one player who insisted on using over 500 buttons and was having FPS issues. I just had to tell him that he is reaching too far and there was not much I could do to make it better.
