After the 4.3 patch, abilities which were before properly 'grayed out' for not being in the right stance are now showing up as if you can use them until you get in the proper stance.

Side note. in regards to the future maul... I just hope you keep it so we can make custom bars of any length we want.. macaroon is pretty much the only mod I know that does this, and I just dont want to play without it!

Awesome Maul, thanks so much for the update really appreciate it

I will support what ever you decide to do as I am sure it will be great!!

Would love to see Macaroon live on but am excited to see what new ideas you have for a fresh take on it. If you think you have the time for a new addon I say go for it other wise just do your best to patch up Macaroon and keep it going.

Thanks again, your bar addons really are the best in the game and would so be very very lost without them.

Just a note: The 4.3 update is really very hackish to get the current issues to be non-issues.

Right now I am evaluating what I will be doing going forward. No, I am not out of the addon game, but like its predecessor Trinity Bars, Macaroon has become an unwieldy behemoth.

I have also finally taught myself some new Lua tricks to make things sleeker and more efficient (and also easier to maintain) and that can only mean one thing: a complete rewrite.

If I do a rewrite, I have to decide where I want to go -

These are my thoughts -

1) Keep Macaroon going as is, but improved

2) Revisit Trinity Bars (my thoughts wander there, so I mention it)

3) Make something completely new (of which I have some exciting ideas, but is it worth the effort and hassle?) P.S. I already have a name for this new idea, but I am not sharing yet

I know my presence is hit-n-miss. Writings addons is a hobby, and as I have mentioned before, sometimes real life gets in the way (serious stuff and not so serious)

But I am not going anywhere as far as WoW is concerned and I still enjoy making addons for some strange reason. This post is not a definitive statement, but rather just a public expression of my thoughts on Maul and the whole addon scene.

As for now, I wrote a short fix to address the issue of "GetNumMacroIcons" being a nil-value. (use this at own risk)

open Macaroon.lua and add these lines of code just before line 278 (local function updateMacroIconIndex())

4.3 introduces the new GetMacroIcons that mostly does what is needed to restore functionality. It returns a table with the icon filenames (without the Interface\Icons\ prefix). It does not include the question mark nor the player spells/gear as the regular icon picker does. Though one could copy paste from blizz' macroUI addon to get that.

This doesn't fix the issue that icons will switch when the index changes, however.

I was able to get around the hangs ups in 4.3 by not binding any spells via macaroon. I just did it by the normal WoW bars and it works fine as a spell timer. Only issue is that after I log out I now have to put macaroon in and out of edit before my bar will show up otherwise it is not there at all. I also have to put the buttons into edit, put the mouse into the macro window, then hit escape and the spell will show up.

The other thing I had to do is enable the default bars and bind my spells to them via default WoW keybinding. Otherwise, when I switched into and out of shadow form (Shadow Priest is my main) my bars would disappear.

It's working pretty solid for my purposes but I only have macaroon and macaroon profiles enabled. I disabled all other addons. If it maintains this basic functionality I "may" not have to quit wow...

show bar if player buff is applied?

Is it possible to have a bar appear only if a player has a self cast buff active?

For example, on my subtlety rogue I have an ability called 'shadow dance' which allows the use of abilities that usually require stealth.

So I'd like a little bar to appear whenever I hit shadow dance. Would this be possible? If so can anyone supply an example for me please?

That's the bug I reported earlier.

4.3 has removed the GetNumMacroIcons() function.
Icons are now referenced by name not index so all of the Macaroon code that involves the icons needs to be redone.
