Neuron  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.4.18
by: Soyier, Maul

Neuron development is on an indefinite hiatus upon the launch of WoW 10.0. If you are interested in helping with development efforts to push the project forward into Dragonflight, please reach out to Soyier.

Introduction:
Neuron is a full featured action Bar addon for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Important Note: Neuron tentatively works with World of Warcraft: Classic and The Burning Crusade: Classic, but none of our developers actively play Classic, so support and bug fixes are offered without any guarantee. Realistically, many bugs in Classic require max level characters to debug, and none of us have any such characters. Outside help with Classic is always welcome!

Example:

Theme Support:
Neuron inherits all theming courtesy of the Masque addon. Neuron has full Masque compatibility, and the theming options found in Masque are quite in-depth, not to mention the robust portfolio of skins made to support Masque. In short, you can make your bars look any way you like!

Features:
  • Neuron features an unlimited number of macros. You can create as many bars/buttons as you want/need per character!
  • Are you a clicker extraordinaire? As many buttons on the screen you want where you want, when you want!
  • Macros the size of Texas! Up to 1024 characters in length!
  • Maul's unique mouse-over key-binding system - where the mouse-over binding system was born!
  • Many other of the favorite desired bar addon features and then some!
  • And, last but not least, MASQUE support!

Graphical Editor:
Neuron contains a graphical bar editor that allows for nearly endless customization to bar shape, size, orientation, and much more! Further, Neuron has neither the limitations on max number of bars nor on the max number of buttons per bar, as you might find in addons such as Bartender4 or Dominoes.

Disclaimer:

Neuron is a fork of the amazing Ion Action Bars addon started by Connor Chenoweth aka Maul, for World of Warcraft Legion and onwards. All credit for the bulk of this addon should go to him accordingly, along with SLOKnightFall for his maintainership throughout the years. I, Soyier, take no credit for the idea or implementation of this addon prior to my adoption of the code in the Fall quarter of 2017.

Re: Re: No alpha up with newer versions of Neuron

Thank you.

Btw, I would still like to help you with the addon. My progress is slow however. I finished studying PHP (giggle) and have mostly solidified writing functions and classes in PHP. Getting comfortable with OOP. Next I want to start to tackle C++.

I eyed lua programing again last night. Found some tutorials. I want to learn lua because based on what I have read it could be very useful for quickly extending what I could do in C++ and lua is a fast scripting language.

Last time I looked at your lua code however I could see it better but still lost though.

What I have done (repeatedly, different releases) in an attempt to fix the problem is delete my neuron.lua and neuron.lua.bak files and delete Neuron from interface addons. Then I put the new neuron files into the interface addons directory and attempt to start from scratch.

It seems like everything is reset. But when I try to set alpha up for mouse over or combat + mouse over it does not work. No alpha change at all.

I could be doing something wrong and don't mind doing whatever to fix it. Jut hoping for some suggestions before the version that has continued to work for me gets too old to use.
It's a bug. I'll get it fixed, sorry I'm being stretched in a thousand different directions these days. Give me a bit and I'll see if I can replicate and solve it.

Regular action bar shown when not in O/P/V

Action bar hides and O/P/V bar shows:

The reason I don't use the same bar for both abilities and O/P/V states is because I play in a very weird keybinding setup due to being left-handed. I've tried to adapt to a more regular configuration, even I've tried the typical right-handed stup, but I just can't. My main attacks are keybound to YUIOP, which are the keybinds I want to use when I'm in override/possess/vehicle. If I use my regular action bar for that porpuse, the OPV abilities arrange at the start of the bar, which are bound to 890BG keybinds (I know it doesn't make sense but it is super logical for me).
Also becuase the OPV states usually have 5 buttons, it would look very weird to a 18 slots bar with only 5 of them showing something. And as you can see in the pictures, it would look better the way I want to do.

Back at the start of BfA I had set it up like this and it worked fantastically. Now for some reason you can make it work but I can't.

Thanks for your patience by the way and sorry to bother with this little inconvenience.
I gave this a try as well and can confirm the behaviour, with OPV states set and only OPV visibility toggles enabled the bar isn't showing up in normal use when OPV is active and it seems that the bar will only show when all visibility toggles are enabled.

I thought after relogging that relogging might have fixed it but it was temporary, I disabled all but OPV visibility toggles again and the bar remained while I was in the OPV zone and disappeared when I left the zone, but it didn't come back when I re-entered the OPV zone.
If both of you are having this issue, can you please open up a ticket for it? I'm on a roll plowing through code re-writes, so it'd be good to get this on my radar
Sure, how do I open a ticket? I'd really like to help fixing it.

Just open it here so that way we can talk more about the issue without it getting burried. It's just a better way to track the issue

Phiew!

I cleaned up most of the keybinding code tonight, and now we have a fully object oriented Keybinder! :-)

This won't mean much to most of you, but it greatly helps the simplicity of the codebase, and makes it more extensible.

The next thing on my to-do list, besides fixing a crap ton of bugs, is splitting the status bar code into 4 separate child objects. This is going to be a pain in the ass, but anything is better than the gigantic 4k line long object that we have currently.

You guys have NO IDEA how much work it is to modernize this code. A lot of this code is 10+ years old, and it shows lol. We've come a LONG way since then, and I'm trying to make the code as streamlined and clean as possible to make my (and whoever else steps up to develop this addon with me) life easier. Already it's paying off though, as I'm able to fix bugs in minutes/hours now instead of days. There's a lot to be said about a robust and clean codebase.

If anyone wants to wet their feet with addon development, drop me a line. I'd love help here and there, like with the work in progress GUI that I keep talking about. I keep putting it off because there's so many other lower level things that need my attention first, bleh.

I used to have 2 bars. First bar was named Action and as you guess it was a typical action bar. And I set it up to hide when I was in override, possess or vehicle status or stance or whatever you wanna call. I recreate this and it looks like it's working fine.

The second bar was the O/P/V bar. It only showed up when any of these status/stances was happening. And here's the problem. I've tried to set it up doing a trillion different combinations of bar states and visiibility toggles and it's impossible to make it work as intented. I've checked the three options of bar states (override, possess and vehicle) and then either it is shown all the time (all visibility options checked) or never (any visibility option uncheked, whichever it is, even the not fishing option causes it to not be shown). If I'm in vehicle or possessed the bar shows the proper abilities, but I cannot make it show when in these conditions and disappear when not.

How can I solve this? Thanks
I just verified this to work, if you have a bar and you uncheck the "no vehicle", "no possess" and "no override" options, and then /reload (sadly I need to fix this but for now it only takes into effect after the first /reload), the bar should only show during those states explicitly.
Not working for me. I've erased the addon, reinstalled it, logged in, used the base bar that comes on first installation, checked the 3 bar states options, unchecked "no vehicle", "no possess" and "no override". Then I've /reload and nope, still not showing unless I check all visibility options.

Would you mind creating this one bar for me and sending me your saved variable file so I can build my setup from scratch? I've been doing some questing in BfA content and the possess/override/vehicle are used quite often and it's driving me crazy checking and unchecking the options everytime. Thanks
Wait, hold on. You do or don't want it to show? I'm super confused on exactly what you're after here lol
Why don't you just use the same bar for your action abilities as for your vehicle/possess/override? The bar will intelligently switch to match the state, so you don't need multiple bars for that purpose.
I'll try to explain it better: I want it show be shown when in override/possess/vehicle state, and disappear when not in any of them. I'll post two pictures with my usual setups so you get a better grasp at what I'm trying to redo:

I do not get any errors that I have noticed. Any ideas? The reason for posting this is the latest WoW patch causes issues with the menu bar. It disappears when doing something like the turtle quests and a "reload" has to be done to bring back the menu bar.

Note: Edit to add I've tried the above with a few releases, including the latest, and get the same results.
Ok please file a bug on GitHub and I'll look into it asap. I have a backlog but I'll add this to my to-do list
