Commands -
  • Type /ion to display a list of available commands, which are:
menu: Toggle the main menu
storage: Open the button storage area
create: Create a blank bar
delete: Delete the currently selected bar
config: Toggle configuration mode for all bars
add: Adds buttons to the currently selected bar (add or add #)
remove: Removes buttons from the currently selected bar (remove or remove #)
edit: Toggle edit mode for all buttons
bind: Toggle binding mode for all buttons
scale: Scale a bar to the desired size.
snapto: Toggle SnapTo for current bar
autohide: Toggle AutoHide for current bar
shape: Change current bar's shape
name: Change current bar's name
strata: Change current bar's frame strata

alphaup: Set current bar's conditions to 'alpha up'
arcstart: Set current bar's starting arc location (in degrees)

None of my macros work anymore =(. If I change the name of the macro the text does not show up. If I try to change the tool tip of the key-bind it doesn't work. Most of the time I have to drag the spell from the spell-book directly as typing it in commonly does nothing. Dragging a macro from wow's default UI into my key-binds had varying results: nothing showed up, put another macro there instead, etc.

Thanks for doing this. If its OK with you I'll package my few fixes as pull requests against your repo to have a single source of the "best" Ion until Maul can get back to development.
Maybe time to ask maul if he wants someone else to pick up development.

Consolidated fixes

I have consolidated fixes into a fork of Maul's code on github here

It includes everything that Maul has fixed and published either on github or the 5.1 patch.

I did fix the bug where the spell tooltip was showing the wrong spell (such as a Warlock's Malefic Grasp showing Shadowbolt).

This is mostly so I can keep all the fixes I need in one place, but I figure it might be helpful for those of you that are long time users of Trinity/Macaroon/Ion. Hopefully, this will make it still useable for you.

This is driving me crazy.

I'm a feral druid and I've been using Macaroon and Ion since... forever XD, anyways, with the last update, the macros I've always used with these addons no longer work properly and have a very strange behavior.

For example, I have a macro as simple as:
#showtooltip
/cast [stealth] Ravage; Shred


But now for some reason that very same macro is showing and using the ability Prowl... O_o, Prowl isn't even in the macro... I edited the macro through /ion edit, and it kept showing Prowl. I deleted the macro info and rewrote it again and then it's showing a blanket space, it doesn't read the macro text at all.

I decided to create the same macro in the WoW's default macro pane and place it in my ion action bar and the resault was that it only shows Ravage, no matter if i'm stealth or not, it's always Ravage. I deactivated the addon for some tests and the macros work perfectly on the standard bars.

The weird part is that I have similar macros with other characters (Warlock and Monk) and they work as intended.

I don't know how to fix it. Any help? Thanks

Edit: After some more tests I think this is what's happening: first of all, it seems Ion struggles with the stealth conditional, and second, and more importantly, if the macros have the same name (I've always named all my macros with a blanket space to avoid showing its name in the macro itself), Ion mixes them and ends showing whatever macro it pleases XD.

Seems to break on Pet Battles.

I can't use my keyboard in combat, and after combat my hidden bars make themselves visible.

it broke Ion for me, so I restored the file, copy/pasted the SAME information in the SAME area, and it worked.

I'd say it's obvious that I did something differently, but I couldn't tell you what it was.

I *think* the menu was still working in Hydrogen-Beta 2. you could go back to Hydrogen-Beta 2, make menu changes you need, and then update to Hydrogen-Beta 3. I don't think it's worth it personally; all the button edit/bar edit/keybind edit menus still seem to work (right click/left click/alt-click to access them, mouseover the Ion button to display these) and I haven't had to use the main menu at all.

I have problems with the extra action bar updating properly, but the delay there seems to be as much a blizzard issue as an addon issue.

charges in general didn't work, the fix below breaks Ion: sometimes. the first time I copy/pasted it into the ion_buttons.lua, it broke things. I restored the file, copy/pasted the same fix in the same area, and it worked. it continues to work, showing both charges AND cooldown.

druid forms flyout seems to be a problem; that you can use boomkin is probably useful information (I suspect most posts here are by feral/guardian/resto druids).

main menu blank: yes, since Hydrogen-Beta 3. but it's better than the AWFUL CLOUD OF GREEN that was around for Hydrogen-Beta 2 after 5.1.

I doubt Ion is dead: between folks who know what they're doing (myself NOT among them) who are offering small tweaks to the code to clean up some of the bugs, and the fact that Hydrogen-Beta 3 came within two days of 5.1, I think it's fair to say that Ion is:
still a beta.
still being updated.
not being supported as quickly or fully as some would like, by an author who provides this code without financial remuneration for his time, who also has a right to play the game and live a life outside the game.

it's not perfect, but I'm still happier with Ion than with the alternatives, and the continuing support of active and capable coders/testers here makes it much more useful.

So far these are the bugs I am seeing:

Extra action bar still is flakey. sometimes shows sometimes doesn't. sometimes it has 2 buttons sometimes none in config mode.

  2. With dual spec, for some buttons only, I can see the tooltip of the other spec button the right spell is fired still does not affect gameplay.

Yes, this is annoying. I submitted a fix a few months ago, but I think it got lost in the shuffle.

The least intrusive way to fix this is to edit Ion_Buttons.lua. Around line 52 you'll see this line:

The underlying issue is the "new" spells don't work with the old GetSpellCount api; they only report "charges" with GetSpellCharges.
replaced it exactly (using Notepad, which may be a problem). should I have removed the "--local GetSpellCount = _G.GetSpellCount" portion? my first attempt crashed Ion entirely (I think I removed a <CR> to clean it up) but my second worked... as well as it always has. which is to say, it didn't show the charges, but it didn't break anything either.
