Livestock: For all your companion needs
Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. However, it will also classify all your mounts as land mounts and slow mounts - defeating much of the purpose of using the addon. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently six slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone or subzone. For more information, check the ReadMe.
Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.
  Change Log - Livestock
Version 1.2.1:

- The zone / subzone option now has a GUI accessible through the addon's Interface -> Addons menu. Drag pets or mounts to the appropriate boxes to select them as preferred for your current zone or subzone.
- The Gnomish Cloaking device buff is now added to the list of "stealth" buffs that Livestock can be set to restrict summons of pets or mounts.
- Fixed some incorrect info in the ReadMe and clarified some of the output error messages printed to the chat frame.

Version 1.2:

- A new option for Livestock has been added: designating a mount or pet for a specific zone or subzone. This is currently done with the /livestock [zone/subzone] command. For more details, please see the ReadMe.
- Most of the addon's functionality is now described in the ReadMe.txt file included with the addon rather than the page. This file is rewritten to be more of a walkthrough from the beginning for new users but documents everything for continuing users.
- Donations enabled at the request of one of the users, but certainly not required.

Version 1.1.8:

- I forgot to enable the Russian and Spanish localizations. Thanks to madbit on WoWInterface for pointing this out.
- There are some other changes that I forgot to write down... uhh... if there are any bugs, I blame Robby.

Version 1.1.7:

- When you are mounted on a land mount underwater and use the Livestock Smart Mount feature, you will dismount instead of doing nothing. (If you have Livestock configured to use a spell underwater, then the spell takes precedence.)
- Wintergrasp Smart Mount support added so that during a battle, Smart Mount will pick a land mount and a flying mount with no battle. Thanks to Duman and magus424 on WoWInterface for reminding me that I needed to address this in a release
- Adjusted the code by which Livestock decides if a land or flying mount should be used.
- Livestock is no longer released under the GPL. All rights are now reserved to the author.
- Preliminary Russian translation added (thanks to simply on Curse) and Spanish translation added (thanks to madbit on WoWInterface).

Version 1.1.6:

- UI for preferences reverted to use Blizzard's Interface Options Panel. Thanks to those who voiced their feedback for the experimental interface.
- Added a new slash command, "/livestock prefs" to shortcut to the preferences in the Interface Options Panel.
- Preferences for vanity pet summons and Smart Mounting behavior are split into two sub-sections of the preferences menu.
- Hunters now have the option of tying Aspect of the Cheetah or Pack to Smart Mounting. You can select this option to happen when indoors, or while moving (and out of combat). You will cast Cheetah if you're playing solo, and Pack if you're in a group (and have learned the spell).
- Mages and priests have the option to cast Slow Fall / Levitate on themselves with Smart Mounting if they're falling and not in combat.
- When wearing the Bloodsail Admiral's Hat, Don Carlos's Hat, or while under the effect of any of the level 80 Jewelcrafting trinket buffs that summon a pet, Livestock's pet summoning features will be suppressed.
- Druids mounted on a land mount who activate Smart Mounting when they move into a flyable area will shift to flight form (if they have this option selected and they are not in combat) instead of dismounting.
- Druids who use Smart Mounting to cast Travel Form in combat while moving will see it recast instead of toggle. (Equivalent to /cast !Travel Form) This has not been tested on locales other than enUS, so please let me know if you see funny behavior with Travel Form in combat!
- Levitate and Water Walking cast underwater using Smart Mounting are now self-cast instead of cast on target. This fixes the issue of using Smart Mounting when you had a friendly unit targeted who was not in your group.
- The macros created with the Macro Generator no longer have the [nocombat] and [noflying] conditions attached to them. The conditions were interfering with some of the newer combat and flying mount behaviors of Livestock, and were leftover from earlier versions that needed them. All checks for combat and flight are now handled through the addon, respecting the Livestock preferences you've selected, rather than being filtered through the macro system. This cuts out potential undesirable behavior for preferences that only happened in flight or combat.
- Fixed a bug where Death Knights and Priests who changed their underwater Smart Mounting options may not have seen the changes go into effect, and may have had unintended effects when they left the water.
- Fixed a bug that may have been responsible for Livestock trying to summon flying mounts in areas where they are not allowed -- most particularly the old world continents. Feedback is appreciated as always.
- Fixed a bug where players on the frFR client would not properly summon land mounts in Wintergrasp.
- Fixed a bug where completing the quest "Blast the Gateway" would result in your character summoning a vanity pet from their checklist automatically even if the option to do so was not checked.

Version 1.1.5:

- New preference: if you have Livestock set to not summon a pet when you are PVP flagged, you can now set the addon to ignore your PVP flag in an instance and summon one automatically anyway.
- Livestock will no longer automatically summon a pet when you are falling. (No more trying to cast Flight Form or Levitate to save yourself and dying because Livestock used your GCD to summon a pet!)
- The option to dismiss pets when going into the air should no longer dismiss pets when you are mounting a land mount. It will still dismiss a pet if you enter a ground vehicle.
- Livestock will no longer change your world map to your current zone when you are moving between zones.
- French and German localizations updated to include all strings.
- Changed the look of the settings frames to create a more integrated look -- heading toward a more complete UI solution as I have time for it.
- Change log up to this version removed from hosting site and archived in Change Log.txt

I too have this issue in Northrend. I really love this addon and can't wait for a fix. Thanks for making this great addon and keeping it updated!

As I understand the change in mechanics sometime around 2.0, when you take an action, it takes place immediately on your client, and you see, but the server may not actually receive it at that time. Which is why you sometimes think you stealthed, but then you're not stealthed. Same thing here. The client showed me stealthed, but the server didn't know it yet. The addon queried the server and got the non-updated state of my toon and so summoned the pet.

After that I was forced to turn off the Automatically summon. Maybe that's where the "not while flagged option" should be? Don't even summon a pet while I'm flagged?

Maybe we can get like a ctrl_click on the critter button option to turn off the auto-summon of critter and ctrl_click to re-enable it?

Just thinking out loud so my critters don't get me killed.
I noticed this issue, Movarrin - from what I can tell, it has to do with too many things happening at once. There's a very small period of time after you hit Stealth (tested on my rogue) during which the game doesn't know that you're Stealthed. You have the buff and your bars change, but without getting technical, when Livestock asks "Are you stealthed?", the game responds "Nope!" I've found that I can replicate this if I mount up, jump, stealth in the air, and before I land start using the mouse buttons to control my direction for when I land. Many times if I time it right, I'll get behavior like yours but haven't figured out how to prevent it programatically.

In that small small window of time, if you use a movement key, you'll drop the stealth buff and summon a pet, which is kinda why I was reluctant to put in an "always have a pet up" option anyway.

I am going to see about changing the flag to restrict summoning with a PVP flag instead of dismissing, as you suggested. Ctrl-clicking on the critter button isn't a bad idea, but there's no way to duplicate that behavior for the keybind and macro methods of picking a pet and I want to be as consistent as possible. Thanks for the testing and continued support

Elloria, I was looking at the wrong info yesterday - you need UnitChannelInfo("player") not UnitCastingInfo("player")

Technically, if you're casting a spell, you're not channeling a spell, and if you're not channeling a spell, you're not casting a spell... ugh ><

So you need to check for channeling a spell - which means do everything I said before and use UnitChannelInfo("player") instead. Tested it today now that I have a chance to, and it looks fine.

Could you add a button to the Interface/Addons control panel to bring up the pet config screen (where the 3D view is) so a person wouldn't have to type /livestock to see that screen. Right now with 2 different places to configure the mod it can get confusing.
Also, could you make it so that when we are looking at the 3D setup screen we could summon a particular pet right from there by clicking a button. Would never need to look at Blizzard's crappy pet ui again... yay!

Thanks for all your hard work!
Twidget
Hi Twidget, I'll think about these in the upcoming release but I am working on changing the layout right now, which will take a while to do. Please make a note of it through the feature request option so I can keep track of it and won't forget it!

Edit: I'm not going to adjust the menu layout - it's too complicated for me to want to do, so I will probably sneak these changes into the next version.

Sure, try this - I think I misunderstood your last post about how you wanted it to work.
Code:
/dismount [noflying]
/click [nocombat,btn:1]LivestockComboButton;[nocombat]LivestockLandMountsButton
That should give you a smart mount on Left-click and force a land mount on right-click.

If you want that to be switched, change the btn:1 to btn:2.

If I'm not mistaken, you had your original macro written a bit wrong - it was saying "if I'm not in combat OR I'm using a modifier, summon a smart mount; otherwise summon a land mount." But it looked like you wanted a modifier to summon a land mount INSTEAD of the smart mount.

Edit: Also, if you're using the AotP / AotC macro above while the macro has [modifier], you shouldn't be able to get AotP with a right-click because the game is looking for a modifier click (i.e. SHIFT, CTRL, or ALT). Unless... you're playing on a Mac?
Wow .. the response time on that was unreal .. and I thank you so much ..

Works like a cham with a modifier. if I just "left click. right click, or Alt leftclick".. I get a flyer, if I hold alt and "rightclick" I get a land mount..

So the next question being .. could we make this work without having a modifier? .. so that you just had to left and right click to get the same effect?

Trying to get the macro to have a modifier so that when I left click I get random Flyer, and when I right click "Or hold a modifier key ie:Alt" I get a Ground mount.

For example .. on my hunter .. this macro on left click casts AoTC, and on right click casts AoTP

I just can't figure out how to make it work for clicks. Any help would be great

Came up with this Idea whilst leveling before I had epic flying.. found that sometimes it was faster to get to point B with your regular ol epic mount.

that seriously is the only problem ive seen. I freaking love this mod.

also im sorry if you already answered my question but did you ever see my comment on summoning a certain type of mount if your in a certain faction's city?

tb - kodo, uc - horse, org- dog or raptor etc.

<3

ps: im loving the little messages you put on the rotation bar. You cracked me up!
Thanks again for the kind words, Elloria

I did see your comment about certain mounts for certain cities - I'm not going to say "no" to it totally, but it'd require reworking the mod a decent amount. Ideally I'd like to have some sort of panel where you can pick zones and assign mounts to them - so if I was in AV, I'd get on a Frostwolf, or in Dun Morogh, get on a Ram, or something like that. It's just annoying to make the visual interface for that, and that's the only thing holding me back right now.

As far as the Evocation thing goes, try this until I update to the new version:

- Go into the Livestock mod folder and open Livestock.lua with a text editor.
- Use "Find" and search for the following phrase: if donotsummon then
- Change that to the following phrase: if donotsummon or UnitCastingInfo("player") then
- Save and close the file.

When you log into the game next, you should see that you don't have a pet interrupt channeled spells anymore.

Something's confusing me though - were you casting evocation WITH a pet out and it was trying to summon a new one? That shouldn't be happening...
