Livestock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.4.1
by: Kharthus [More]

Livestock: For all your companion needs

Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently eight slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation. /livestock and /ls both work for commands.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone/party]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone, subzone or party. For more information, check the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock [mount/nomount/pet/nopet]" to add/remove pets and mounts from the random summon list. Uses your active summon.
  • Use "/livestock debug" - Prints out useful debugging information that can assist the developers in solving problems. Use the command again to turn off the debugging output.

Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.

The config option 'Enable Flight Form behavior with Smart Mounting' doesn't seem to actually toggle the setting; you still need to use the slash command.

IMHO, this should be enabled by default.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but it's different from the old addon I used to use (GoGoMount), and various mount-macro logic I've used:

I have \ bound to smart mounting, and shift-\ to ground mounting (i.e. shift-\ to override flying). Normally if you hit \ twice, you mount/fly if you're on the ground, and dismount/leave-form if you're mounted. This works fine. But if I am in a flyable area, on a ground mount, when I hit \, I dismount and go into flight form.

This is different behavior from non-druids. If I use shift-\ to select a land mount override, then hit \, I dismount - I don't mount a flying mount.

This behavior should be consistent, IMHO.

Another item I noticed - If you de-select the "Include non-epic mounts" options, the non-epic mounts are not removed from the selected mounts - they just disappear from the menu. So the non-epic mounts are still randomly selected. I had to put them back on the menu, manually deselect them, then hide them from the menus.

And give the compilers some time to get the mods updated - raid frames and action bars need almost complete rewrites, and those are the ones that need to be juuuuust right in everyone's UI overhauls.

HAHA NO YOU DIDN'T I may be late in noticing that but that cracked me up.

suggestion: Have it summon the faction mount depending on what city your in?

Undercity - undead horse
orgrimmar - wolf, or raptor
tb: kodo

etc

ps: this patch blew up my interface lol

A 0-100 slider for each mount is fine, so for equal probabilities on the 3 mounts, you could set 100/100/100 (chance = 100/300)) or 50/50/50 (chance = 50/150), or 70/20/10 for the wanted probabilities. Just add up the points basically for the denominator.
That is a novel and neat idea. I'll give it some thought. Coding the math part would be easy, the harder part would be representing it some way in the GUI (say, with a slider). However, I think I could do it with a dropdown menu and slider in the options pane.

I'll add this to the features list to remind myself, but I want to make sure it's stable first -- while I was bug testing the heck out of it before I released v1.0, there's always the chance that I missed something or had a typo. *crosses fingers*

Hahah, you're right, some of the areas of the game definitely make flying a must-have, if not literally.

You should see that in v1.0, smart mounting defaults to a land mount if you have no flying mounts (instead of trying to put you on a flying mount and saying you haven't checked any).

Re: How about checking riding skill before trying to fly?

Umm, wouldn't it be a good idea to check whether the player can actually fly before trying to choose a flying mount via "smart" flying? My level 60 DK in Hellfire Peninsula has no flying mounts, and couldn't use them if he did. You need to be checking the riding skill level.

Honestly, "smart" should be the only version, with an override to force a land mount (e.g. a 2nd keybind).
Dwex, thanks for your input. This idea was already brought up by someone's comment at Curse and v1.0, to be released on Monday probably, will change smart mounting to behave in this fashion.

My original idea was to have people use the "random land mount" function until they got "smart mounting", and even then use smart mounting judiciously. After all, if you have an epic land mount and only a slow flying mount, you probably want to be on your land mount to actually travel and your flying mount when you need to rise vertically. Smart mounting would put you on the slower flying mount all the time.

As I said in my previous comment, the bug sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. I haven't been able to figure out reliably how to force it to happen so I can then work around it, but the next version should be better at avoiding the bug. I think.

and now another thing. wasn't there an options button before that you would click to bring up the bar whether or not to include non epic mounts and toggle on/off the other clickable buttons for mounts/critters? just makin sure i'm not losing my mind.
Yup, there was an options button before. Now those options are in the Blizzard Interface options panel. Check the change log.

bit of feedback too: i love the little messages the critters and mounts given when you take the scrollbar outside the box =P

Thanks for the feedback, Sazdek. If you don't mind posting a screenshot, that'd be helpful. I think I've seen this before, though, and it relates to the bug I have posted at the top of the description. I can't pin it down, but sometimes when Livestock asks WoW for a list of your mounts and critters, WoW answers with all the information except it gives their names as blanks. That explains why the menus look empty but they do the right thing if you hover over the menu items.

If you see that happening, try /console reloadui. I've found that WoW only gives those blank names when you first log in and not when you reload the UI. I'm working on narrowing this down and fixing it for sure, though!
