Livestock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.9.8
by: Kharthus [More]
Livestock: For all your companion needs
Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently eight slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation. /livestock and /ls both work for commands.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone or subzone. For more information, check the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock [mount/nomount/pet/nopet]" to add/remove pets and mounts from the random summon list. Uses your active summon.
  • Use "/livestock debug" - Prints out useful debugging information that can assist the developers in solving problems. Use the command again to turn off the debugging output.

Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.

bugged

just updated livestock a few minutes ago and for whatever reason when pressing my keybind for my smart mount, it is not mounting me. my critter keybind still works fine, it's just the mounting one giving me problems. random land mount and flying mount still works fine, looks like something got screwy with smart mount when you updated. thought you'de like to know in case you haven't caught it yet =)

Re: Re: Re: Re: some stuff

I'd have to rework the logic branching to intercept the situation where you're a druid, mounted, out of combat, have Flight Form behavior enabled, AND know a flight form spell -- and make this specific case highest priority in the branch so the logic knows NOT to dismount but instead cast flight form.
Yeah. Gotta love how branchy stuff like this can get. "Could you make that button turn red if ____," ... "Yeah, I guess so," and I go add like 7 levels more of if branching just to make the damn button change color. I can sympathize .

if I tried to rewrite it to be clean, I'd likely end up breaking something
Ah the classic problem of grandfathering. Remember all those jobs that opened up around the Y2K changeover for FORTRAN coders because it was easier for the banks to just patch their FORTRAN code than it was to rewrite it in a language that's actually not nearly dead? Yeah. The banks can sympathize on this one.

Thanks again. I'm enjoying this addon immensely.

Sazdek, were you upgrading from a much older version of the addon?

There was a change to the keybinding setup several versions ago that made the keybinds reset. You may have to re-establish the keybind in the keybindings menu. If you upgraded from a recent version to this one, then please file a detailed bug report with some more information and I will look into it.

Odd Behavior

I'm having some strange issues with livestock. When I have it enabled, I can't use my channeled aoe spells. Specifically, Flame Strike and Blizzard.

It started during a raid and was sort of random that my spells wouldn't work. Then they quit altogether. I couldn't use them from my action bar or the spellbook. But something I noticed - I could use them if I was mounted. So I tried disabling Livestock, and everything was back to normal.

I have no idea what the problem could be. I run a ton of mods so interaction might be the problem. I also have 30+ keybinds, so maybe something's up with that.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Great and useful mod btw. Thank you!

Edit: Deleted the livestick wtf files and all is well. The only pet I had enabled was one that required a snowball, but I had none in my inventory. Maybe that was causing problems

Hmmm, thanks for this report -- but that is odd! I haven't heard anything about the mod blocking spells at all.

Do you remember which files you deleted? And just to check, everything is working fine right now?

I searched my wtf folder for "livestock" and it came up with about 6 files I think. All named livestock.lua, or livestock.lua.bak. The search (I'm using easyfind on a mac) searches all the subdirectories too, so it found them all I assume.

I was in the middle of a 25 man Sartharion raid when it started. You can mount there, and if I recall correctly, the problem started on one attempt after I had mounted to run back. I'll try and duplicate it this week.

And it is working great now. Yay!

Now that levitate is castable on others, can you make it so when you are swimming, it automatically self-casts? It doens't work right when you have someone else targetted.

Also - what about making smartmount cast levitate/slowfall while falling?

Hi secutanudu, this is a good idea. I am in the middle of tweaking the addon for next version, and I'll make sure this gets in it. Since I don't know when the release might happen, here's what you can do to adjust it for your own use until then:

Search the Livestock.lua file for this line:

self:SetAttribute("spell", waterwalkingspell)

and then add this line after it:

self:SetAttribute("unit", "player")

Also - what about making smartmount cast levitate/slowfall while falling?
This is another neat idea, but one that I will have to make a toggle option because both of those can require reagents. I don't like making spells be automatic if it's something that could deplete your inventory.

travel form

Hey there.

Was hoping this mod would fix this but it does the same thing as my macros

Its the smart mount and I'm a druid

If im in combat and i change into travel form.... it will basically get "stuck" in travel form until i change into another form.... meaning it will not go to flight form even though it should.....

Any idea on if you can program the mod to fix that ??

Let me know

Do you mean that when you leave combat, you can't use Smart Mounting to change into Flight Form if you've left combat in Travel Form?

Re: Re: travel form

Yep. Test it out.

If you switch to travel form in combat, you will be "stuck" in it until you actually switch to another form other than flight form.

I had the same thing going on with my macro setup for that too.

I just tested it out and it seems to be working as it should be. Here is how I tried it:

- I engaged an enemy in caster (druid) form.
- I used Smart Mount to change to travel form and ran away.
- When I left combat, I hit Smart Mount again. I changed into swift flight form and flew off.

I disabled "enable flight form" and tried again. This time when I entered into combat, smart mount into travel form, left combat, and hit smart mount, I left travel form and got on a flying mount.

This could be a localization error: What locale are you on? Also, could you let me know what settings you have checked?

Re: Re: Re: Re: travel form

Hey there. I am using US version, I will go try it again to make sure. I tested it out with

enable flight form with smart mount behaviour
safe flight
allow to break stealth
Smart mount will cast travel form/gw in combat

Everything else is unchecked.

PS - This might have been a problem macaroon. I will test it again but I think tis working now

Druids mounted on a land mount who activate Smart Mounting when they move into a flyable area will shift to flight form (if they have this option selected and they are not in combat) instead of dismounting.
