Capping is just another battleground timer mod with some extras.

Current Features:
  • All battlegrounds/arenas have start timers
  • Alterac Valley - Node timers, auto quest turnins, and sync
  • Arathi Basin - Node timers and final score estimation
  • Eye of the Storm - Flag respawn timer, flag carrier display, and final score estimation
  • Isle of Conquest - Node timers and siege engine timer
  • Warsong Gulch - Flag respawn timer and flag carrier display with health percent
  • Wintergrasp - Start timer, wall alerts, and auto show zone map
  • Zone Map - Change scale, narrow, and hide border
  • Other - Port expiration timers, queue wait timers, scoreboard/capture bar/vehicle seat repositioning
  • Looking For Group - LFGStatusIcon support for LFD wait/port timers

How to use:
  • Show options - "/capping" or right-click on a timer bar/anchor
  • Toggle anchor - left-click on a timer bar or use options menu
  • Send time info to SAY - shift left-click on that timer bar
  • Send time info to BG - ctrl left-click on that timer bar
  • Hide timer bar (also leaves queue if related) - ctrl, shift, or alt right-click on that timer bar
  • Target carrier (in WSG or EotS) - left-click on the carrier's display
  • Send carrier info to BG - ctrl left-click on the carrier's display

Why no auto-release and auto-join?:
  • I try not to promote bad habits in my mods.
  • No auto-release because knowing when you should or should not release is a part of being a smart player in battlegrounds. For example, say there is five seconds left to capture blacksmith and you die there. Auto-release will send you to the starting area, but if you wait five seconds, you release to blacksmith graveyard.
  • Another reason not to use auto-release is to have time to spy on the flag carrier after a failed kill attempt.
  • Auto-join was useful when there were single queues and long wait time/afk time. Today is different, of course.
  • I'm not telling you how to play, just giving you my reasons.

Why no convenient "Incoming" and such buttons?:
  • The users and I had a discussion about this before when Capping was on wowace. If spoiled, the users would not type something important if there's no lazy way to do it. Am I right?.
  • Messages probably no mod covers:
    1. Incoming? Well, how many? From which direction?
    2. Incoming BS. Oh wait, they're going LM now.
    3. Incoming BS, but we're all here already. I mean fight at the flag, they're capping.
    4. Need help at MT...3 enemies behind
    5. Incoming DR...3 stealth
    6. Flag carrier going ramp side, almost dead
    7. Flag carrier on the way up the roof, behind tree
    8. ...and so on
  • Don't you love seeing "INCOMING BS" "INCOMING BS" "INCOMING BS" with 2 enemies incoming and 5 people already defending? After about 5 more come to help chase these 2 kills, you get spammed "BS CLEAR".
  • Plenty of standalone mods that do this, so use those if needed.

Known issues:
  • Narrow map setting will not work if Mapster is installed. Disabling the battlemap module in Mapster will fix this.

I have no way of getting into battlegrounds, so Capping is currently as is...unless someone wants to contribute, but that never happened.

I'll try to finish this work for you when I'm done with all my work. This addon one of the best three addons that I have. If you are going to stop updating this mod, the only I can tell is, VERY THANKS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE. Clicking and seeing the flag carrier's health never been so easy, and now that rated battlegrounds is a possibility, this addon is more useful than ever. Also I prefer this timers instead of the deadly boss mods bars.

Anyone know how to edit the lua files such that the "Next Battle: 1:00" warning to a 15 min prior to the start of Tol Barad warning instead? On my server it's almost impossible to get in to Tol Barad without queueing as early as possible.

Also, sorry to see you go totalpackage, thanks for all your hard work. Really appreciate this mod, hope someone does continue it on.

Just clone of WSG.
After cap flag respawn after 20 sec.

The Battle of Gilneas
3 node AB-like BG. 2k points to win.
Only start countdown timer working.

Nodes:
Mines - AB Mine icon
Lighthouse - AV Tower icon
Waterworks - AB BS icon

First capture of node X:
<Nick> claims the <node X>! If left unchallenged, the <Side> will control it in 1 minute!

Next capture of node X:
<Nick> has assaulted the <node X>!

Capture blocked:
<Nick> has defended the <node>!
The <Side> has taken the <node>!


Capture complete:
The <Side> has taken the <node>!

Node names begin with a lowercase letter.

Point gain speed:
1 nodes - 10 points per 9sec
2 nodes - 10 points per 3sec
3 nodes - 30 points per 1sec

Tol Barad
I was only at one - Karazhan is very unbalanced server.
But I don't see anything worth tracking by additional timers.
AFAIK all you need is build-in time to win/lose timer.


What you need more? I can check anything with friends.

Thanks. I will probably have something before New Years. Tol Barad was the only one I got to try, and you're right about it not having anything worth tracking.

For Twin Peaks, there are flag carriers, right? What are the messages given when someone picks up, drops, and captures a flag?

For The Battle of Gilneas, what is the format of the score as displayed on the world pvp display. For example, AB shows "Bases: 3 Resources: 0/1600".

When flag is dropped:

Twin Peaks is WSG with new map. I don't post flag status strings because they are exactly the same.

BfG got this same format like AB.

Great, I should be able to just copy and paste or maybe less. I forgot to ask for the zone map info. If you can while you're in each battleground, run this script and report the output.

Any idea what lines to edit, to remove the WG timer. At 85, its a pretty useless timer to have, but in order to see Tol Barad timer, you have to have WG timer enabled also.

I would like the bars to always grow down from the anchor but via the following option it is always flipped either in the batlleground or in the world. Meaning when I set it to grow down in the world it grows up in the BG.

Options > Time Bar > Other > Flip Bar Stack

Question Timers, calculations, and flags

Can the timers be fixed? I've noticed that the timers are all slightly off, in particular AB. I posted 17 seconds until win and a few seconds later the other side won. Perhaps it is just the calculation of resource points causing the issue... Eye of the Storm has similar issues, my timer will say 1600 for a few seconds before the round ends. In both cases until it is fixed this add-on is not so useful.

I saw it posted that Twin Peaks works like WSG. Can we get the names of the flag carriers like we have in WSG?

I think you should just be able to disable each of them on its own.

Look for this bit of code in core.lua and change only the highlighted parts...
