Capping  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Capping is a battleground timer mod with some extras.

Current Features:

  • All battlegrounds/arenas have start timers
  • Ashran - Event timers, battle timer, graveyard timer
  • Alterac Valley - Node timers, auto quest turnins, and sync
  • Arathi Basin - Node timers and final score estimation
  • Eye of the Storm - Flag respawn timer, flag carrier display, and final score estimation
  • Isle of Conquest - Node timers and siege engine timer
  • Warsong Gulch - Flag respawn timer and flag carrier display with health percent
  • Wintergrasp - Start timer, wall alerts, and auto show zone map
  • Zone Map - Change scale, narrow, and hide border
  • Other - Port expiration timers, queue wait timers, scoreboard/capture bar/vehicle seat repositioning

How to use:
  • Show options - "/capping" or right-click on a timer bar/anchor
  • Toggle anchor - left-click on a timer bar or use options menu
  • Send time info to SAY - shift left-click on that timer bar
  • Send time info to BG - ctrl left-click on that timer bar
  • Hide timer bar (also leaves queue if related) - ctrl, shift, or alt right-click on that timer bar
  • Target carrier (in WSG or EotS) - left-click on the carrier's display
  • Send carrier info to BG - ctrl left-click on the carrier's display

Why no auto-release and auto-join?:
  • I try not to promote bad habits in my mods.
  • No auto-release because knowing when you should or should not release is a part of being a smart player in battlegrounds. For example, say there is five seconds left to capture blacksmith and you die there. Auto-release will send you to the starting area, but if you wait five seconds, you release to blacksmith graveyard.
  • Another reason not to use auto-release is to have time to spy on the flag carrier after a failed kill attempt.
  • Auto-join was useful when there were single queues and long wait time/afk time. Today is different, of course.
  • I'm not telling you how to play, just giving you my reasons.

Why no convenient "Incoming" and such buttons?:
  • The users and I had a discussion about this before when Capping was on wowace. If spoiled, the users would not type something important if there's no lazy way to do it. Am I right?.
  • Messages probably no mod covers:
    1. Incoming? Well, how many? From which direction?
    2. Incoming BS. Oh wait, they're going LM now.
    3. Incoming BS, but we're all here already. I mean fight at the flag, they're capping.
    4. Need help at MT...3 enemies behind
    5. Incoming DR...3 stealth
    6. Flag carrier going ramp side, almost dead
    7. Flag carrier on the way up the roof, behind tree
    8. ...and so on
  • Don't you love seeing "INCOMING BS" "INCOMING BS" "INCOMING BS" with 2 enemies incoming and 5 people already defending? After about 5 more come to help chase these 2 kills, you get spammed "BS CLEAR".
  • Plenty of standalone mods that do this, so use those if needed.

Known issues:
  • Narrow map setting will not work if Mapster is installed. Disabling the battlemap module in Mapster will fix this.

Now, I'm guessing, with 3.1 that the WG timer is a value you can just grab.

Is there such a value for the Auchidon towers? It's quick, easy money, XP, and cash if you know when to be there.

I believe Mapster does this and is pretty basic in features. If I add that feature in Capping, people will start saying what you said about Capping's weight. Also, those map mods are popular and would a redundant feature in Capping.

No function for those towers. I do recall people requesting on PTR, but that's it.

Wintergrasp timer

I was tired to calculate the Wintergrasp timer if more then one hour remaining.

It shows 1.7h or something like this to me, but what is 0.7h in minutes? ;-)

So if you are also tired to calculate it by youself, replace line 602 in the core.lua.

This was discussed before. It's difficult to fit a readable time format in that space. I do not want to reserve more pixels for just one Wintergrasp timer when it's above an hour; also, when it's above an hour, do you really need to know the exact time remaining?

"1:40h" is not very common and would defeat the purpose of having a readable time format (is that 40 hours?). "1:40" looks like 1m 40s, "1h 40m" takes up too much space, etc. I believe 1.7h is a reasonable compromise. Heck, the default UI and most mods would just show 2h.

My method is to simply round to the nearest quarter and estimate (1.7 to 1.75 to 1 hour 45 minutes).

Why not just put it in minutes? I think it's easier to calculate 96 minutes than 1.6 hours

Hi ;-)

I am understanding your arguments. At the moment my Wintergraps bar shows me "Wintergrasp 1:20h (22:35)"

So i know how long it takes before the battle begins, or the exact time (22:35) it starts ;-)

That is an interesting information for me, because from Monday to Friday i often just log in to play Wintergrasp (much work etc) ...
So i log in, look at the nice Capping bar ... and log out.

I am using a high resolution for World of Warcraft. So my Capping bar has enough space to hold as much information as i need.

Maybe it would be nice, to add an configuration for that bar, where you can choose between some timer display settings. I can add i for you if you want. Would be a pleasure.

Still an very nice Addon! Go on dude! ;-)

I'm not going to redesign the entire bar setup just for Wintergrasp. If you would like detail info that you mentioned, check out one of the several standalone mods (search "winter"). Wintergrasp timer can be disabled in Capping.

It is not necessary to redesign anyting. ;-)
I will continue to edit my local copy of capping, and merge with your updates. It was just a suggestion, it works fine for me.

And i will not install two Addons which do the same stuff. ;-)

I think that's also easier to read than 2.5 hours, although you get used to the latter also. Ideally of course it would be "2h 30 mn" but I don't think it's a big bother.

On a side not though, I'd like to suggest something: in Warsong Gulch, the flag carrier's name is only updated on the score frame from the BG neutral announcements in chat. It would be nice if Capping could also react to PLAYER_TARGET_CHANGED, and scan the current target's buffs from Silverwing Flag (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=23335) and Warsong Flag (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=23333).
