Cellular   Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

Features:
  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Note: if you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options. Furthermore, if you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:
...\WTF\Account\<Account Name>\<Server Name>\<Character Name>\SavedVariables\Cellular.lua

Recently, I had some requests for donation info, so here it is. Do not feel obligated; donations (or lack of) will not determine what features I do or do not implement.

I do not see the point or usefulness of horizontal minimizing. If I understand you correctly, it would be similar to making Fubar/Titan or even the Windows Taskbar have a vertical growth. Also, doing this will add too much bloat to Cellular, and I do not want that.

Thanks.
Look for date("%H:%M:%S") and remove the :%S. As a side note, I'm not going to add an option to remove it cause, for active chat messages, time stamps are pointless without seconds.

I've discussed the combat issues before (not on WOWI). I personally do not want to promote bad habits in my mods. Here are my reasons:
  • Someone can be in combat for up to 10 minutes.
  • It's not hard to chat, especially not hard to read, while in combat in this game.
  • People do receive important whispers for combat (ie. boss mods).
  • There are time sensitive whispers (whispers from a GM).
I suggest placing your windows where they do not get in your way when they pop up.

Re: Re: Re: editbox

Heyyy uhh..I've used Celluar since i've known it existed..so much better than WIM..

I was wondering..how much of an operation would it be to make Cellular not pop up at all during combat..then re-appear when combat ends..

I certainly understand the mentality of having just the little titlebar show up during combat..so you can open it if you want to.. mebbe a toggleable option? Show/Hide Title Bar/Window during combat..

I suppose making the full window re-appear after combat would be the most challenging../shrug..not that I know the first thing about addons..LoL..just wondering ;-)

Re: Re: editbox

...or I could just comment out the calls in Cellular to SetPoints(ChatFrameEditBox, ...) and get the behavior I want

I'm going to have to declare Cellular as incompatible with Prat 3.0. That's the third report of something not working cause of the two. Well, at quick glance, you're probably using Prat's undock feature for the editbox. Either don't use that or don't use Cellular.

My problem is that I like my whisper window in a specific location in the UI, but that location is slightly different for each char. I have to reposition it every time I log into a different character.
Is there a way to set position preferences on a per character basis?
I have Windows XP, by the way, in case that makes a difference.

Thank you.

I've added an option to save settings per character. Enable it and test it out. Enjoy.

@Hevanus - heh, the tooltip for that has always been on the tab's right-click menu.

Oh yea, you can middle-click a tab to close it.
OMG middle click! Just add a note to the tab tooltip so users know that middle-click works

Works fine for me. Try whispering yourself an item link and testing it out. If problem still exists, disable all or most of your other mods and check again.
