Cellular  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 5.4.001
by: totalpackage [More]
Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

YouTube Intro

Features:
  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Warnings:
  • If you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options.
  • If you're experiencing crashing due to memory errors, disable and clear your history.
  • If you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:
    ...\WTF\Account\<Account Name>\<Server Name>\<Character Name>\SavedVariables\Cellular.lua

Thanks for the report. It still doesn't rule out a user having a very large history, which I suspected all along. Delete ", Cellular_History" from the Cellular.toc (have to exit the game first) and check to see if it still occurs.

I have tried clearing the history/cache/saved variables. Also disabled history. Log in once and things are fine, but if I log out and change toons or log back in to same toon I get a crash.
I know this post was made more than a month ago, but I figured I should add to the list to see if we can get something sorted out, troubleshooting if you will. Until recently I used cellular, and I can agree it is far better than WIM. However, I was receiving random intermittent fatal errors upon logging into the game.

This application has encountered a critical error:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Program: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
File: .\src\lmemPool.cpp
Line: 311

Requested 5088 bytes of memory

So as to not clutter the thread, the complete text file for this error can be found here. This was the last memory error I got before switching away from cellular. This is another error I got after attempting to rule out arcHUD as a cause for the errors as well, as I found out that arcHUD has been abandoned for some time and hasn't been updated to recent patches. It took a number of logins but an error did eventually occur, ruling out arcHUD.

After some research I narrowed it down to cellular as one source of the errors. Note, ONE source, not THE source. Just to get it out of the way, I'm going to list the circumstances I've noticed for these errors, as I had been getting them for several months, starting some time (I don't remember specifically when they started occurring, but I don't remember them occurring before 3.1 launched) after 3.1 launched:

1. Cellular is NOT the only source of the errors- I never got an error after a decent number (40+) of test logins with only cellular enabled, but I have yet to get this error when cellular is disabled.
2. Deleting the cache folder would only work some of the time. More often than not it didn't work.
3. Disabling ANY addon and then logging in would (most often) stop the errors.
4. Renaming my WTF folder then logging in would stop the errors for one login after restoring my original WTF folder.
5. I can't rule out any of the addons I use as secondary culprits EXCEPT webdkp, as I only have that enabled on my main and the errors occurred on all my characters.
6. Despite having large addons like auctioneer and recount, the errors are not a matter of insufficient RAM or virtual memory- I have ~3GB running on 32bit XP.
7. When an error occurred, most (not all) attempts to log on to that character afterwards would also result in a fatal error, but logging in to another character would not.

Since this error, three of my addons have changed- ArcHUD2 to IceHUD, cellular to WIM(yes, it's a terrible addon by comparison, but it's better than not having cellular), and removing skada damage meter.

If anyone has anything to add to this, please do. I would like to find the absolute source of these errors and if it is indeed cellular see if they can be fixed, as cellular is without a doubt significantly better than WIM.

On the note of WIM though, one change I would like to suggest to cellular is the addition of an option to allow you to close all open whisper windows at once with a single key press, or something else quick and simple. This is WIM's only redeeming feature, an option to allow you to close all open windows with the escape key.

In the latest version, 3.2.003, I noticed the name coloring according to class isn't getting cleared from previous whisper, when someone else whispers me, their name is colored according to the class that I last talked to.

Thought about that hjowever because its random i can't really replicate it to find out for certain. WIM doesnt seem to be affected by it however which makes it strange.

Cellular blocking some tells?

Hey guys/TP,

For starters, great mod. Love it to pieces. My only concern is something which is a pretty massive issue sadly.

For some strange reason, every now and again Cellular seems to just not receive tells I receive from individual people. They can see my tells however I cant see theres. This has happened to mw on two seperate occasions for a persisting amount of time and I'm unsure of the cause and subsequently, unsure how to fix it. I beleive the first time the problem just went away or an addon was updated I'm not sure.

Most recently it was blocking tells from my girlfriend on one of her toons and even that was intermittent. Sometimes it would, other times it wouldnt. I figured the obvious cause might be chat history too full however I went to the file and completely cleared my entire history so it can't be that.

Any ideas on the cause of this and subsequently how I can fix this? I can get used to default tells and WIM is just so god awful.

According to my readings, 81K (or .081M) without history.

Very little. Under a MB ... it only adds up if you have history enabled and if the history builds up after however many days.

Make sure you hold shift when clicking to clear/delete history. I should make that more intuitive.

Re: Re: Not enough storage problem.

Also, how can people like a mod if it's crashing their computer? How did they get a chance to try it in the first place?
At one point this wasn't an issue and I could use the addon.

Again, that makes me think that they're just piling on the chat history and not managing it. History got too big and crashed the game. Wipe, clean, and/or disable your history.

I'm not saying that Cellular is not causing it; I'm trying to get proof that Cellular is getting it all by itself (not in combination with other mods). In other words, it's not an addon conflict. I don't know what's so hard about running Cellular by itself (alone, just Cellular, one mod) and then see if you get the error. Nobody since the first bug report ever tried.

Not enough storage problem.

I really hope you'll fix it, since I absolutely love this addon. WIM doesn't 'feel' the same.

And the issue has been examined for weeks after those reports. I worked with people thru PMs and fix the error for them, I've added several history features, and I've provided instructions on the addon description page on ways to manage your history. I released a major update back in April and inform users of the history usage, and the error rarely occurs anymore. Still, the several people who still have this issue are using massive mods such as Recount, Pitbull, QuestHelper, etc, and are not confirming that running Cellular by itself is causing those errors. I cannot account for all the user specs and addon usage.

And please quote what I've said that's unprofessional. From what I've seen, I fulfilled one of your requests, you suddenly get the critical error, and then I explained the situation. Plus this is not a business.

It can be extremely spammy when people whisper you with an invite keyword and you pretty much lose any real whispers during that time...
If you're using an auto-invite mod, then it should be that mod handling the chat filters. Cellular is compatible with the universal chat filter provided by Blizzard.
