KittyUI   Updated this week!   Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Suggestions? Questions? You can email me! kittysafe at gmail dot com.
This UI is designed for 1680x1050, but can be retooled easily for other resolutions.

Backup > Delete > Copy
Backup interface and wtf folders
Delete interface and wtf folders
Copy kittyui interface & wtf folders into WOW directory
In kittyui WTF\Account folder, rename
"YOURACCOUNTNAME" to WOW account name not Battlenet account; must be CAPITALIZED.
In folder you just renamed.
Rename "Realm server" to your server that you play on.
In folder you just renamed.
Rename "Character name" to your Character you are going to play on.
Start the game.
Enable out of date addons.
Ingame type /reflux switch kittyui

Different Resolution and FAQ:

Docking station: hover over hidden bar at top of screen, options button on left, unlock panels 2 and 3 to move them, change the background opacity ti make that easier.

Chatter: That misplaced runaway clock? Right-click the mini-map goto show/hide and hide the clock, toggle it if you have to.

Autobar: The class bar in the middle of the screen, type /autobar config for that one.

Biggest thanks to Shiny<3 without which none of this would be possible.

I downloaded the version you had up yesterday, 10/29/08 and everything seemed to load ok, but the action bar boxes and chat boxes are huge! I was wondering what screen resolution you are using on your system.

And by the way, your compilation in your screenshot is exactly what I'm looking for as I raid with a priest. Looks awesome so far and wish to have mine look identical to yours (most spells included :P)

Thanks
I'm playing at 1680x1050 Wide.

The action bars are controlled and scalable with /bt (Bartender4)
The chat boxes and all panels are eepanels type /rock for configuration and find it there. You can unlock each panel and move them as well.

Done.

Package is down to under 10 mb, that's fantastic.
I do agree it's possible much of the WTF files might
not be necessary but I want to be sure before I
start deleting things that might effect the integrity
of the UI.

Ok, my last tid-bits for the day, since you've not yet told me to MYOB.

* probably take another pass at the saved variables folder to remove files relating to addons no longer packaged or part of addons that you run yourself - but aren't including in the kittyUI.
KITTYUI_0.5b\WTF\Account\ACCOUNT NAME\SavedVariables
Bartender3.lua
BigWigs.lua
!Swatter.lua
Auc-*.lua, Enchant*.lua, EnhTooltip.lua
Carbonite.lua
Cartographer3.lua (unsure)
And probably others.

* Recount.lua saved variable file looks to be very character-specific. This means there is about 10mb of data stored in:
..\KITTYUI_0.5b\WTF\Account\ACCOUNT NAME\SERVER NAME\CHARACTER NAME\SavedVariables\*

It's a fair bet those other files in that folder might not be needed... but I'd need to test/confirm. The big one is Recount.lua coming in at 10mb, and giving me all kinds of combat stats on characters named Bobtheshaman and Tanqueray.

btw, I mentioned in my first post that I only started looking at UI compilations recently. The fine-tuning I'm suggesting here can probably be applied to most of the packages I've looked at in the past few days. I'm only picking on you because I think this suite has a lot neat 'stuff' and looks good. I just want it to be a lean and mean kitty. Not a lasagna-packed Garfield.

Done, and repackaging as 0.5beta
Thanks so much for the help Aesir!
Very much appreciated.

Package is happily widdling down from 16mb
to 10. Eventually I'll widdle it down even
more, and that's always a good thing for the downloader's sake.

'Orphaned' addons from the removal of Auctioneer suite:
!Swatter (serves a similar function as !BugGrabber and BugSack).
BeanCounter
Enchantrix
Enchantrix-Barker
EnhTooltip
Informant
Stubby

(Won't cause the same kind of issues that originally concerned me about the inclusion of your realm's auctioneer scan data though, if you do decide to leave these in.) [EDITED:
If you do like the idea of including Auctioneer, you could do this with minimal risk by including a the full suite package - but not including your own saved variables. Then, update the readme.txt for your compilation with instructions on how an existing auctioneer user can/should back up the saved variables then copy them back in after installing this UI compilation.]

Left-over boss mod:
BigWigs_ZulAman

Obsolete?:
ImprovedCamera -Possibly no longer as useful in WoW 3.02. I think it's function overlaps with new 3.x settings/features. Unsure.

Ace2 and Ace3 libraries:
I would look to clean up the Ace2, Ace3, and AddonName\libs\Aceblahblah structure and perhaps seek to either embed or disembed. But not both. Perhaps save this step for after you've got everything else the way you want it to be.

Blizzard_* Stuff
:
I think they get recreated once opened up in game, if they don't already exist, but might be worth testing the removal of the ..\AddOns\Blizzard_* folders from the package. Reason: If Blizz updates them, but someone then downloads the version in this package and it's out-of-date.. .what happens? (I don't know). I suppose it's possible they'd mess up the update though.

Account Info:
Double-check and remove any references to your ACCOUNTNAME in ..\WTF\*.

Using Chatter instead of Prat. What I need to do is go through all my addons, options and configurations and files with a fine toothed comb now that I'm
actually releasing my UI

Should be fun. And thanks for all the encouragement!

1) Take a look at some other unitframes, play around with Pitbull some more. It can do just about anything.

2) Find a button_facade skin for buffs and buttons.

3) Your text is gigantic! If you need it this way because you can't see it, that's okay, if not, it's way too big. Also, make sure everything uses the same font and bar texture.

3) autohide autobar if you can.

This is a great UI, just needs some fine tuning and some new unitframes. I may mess a little with it this week if I get some time. Good luck!

Syrup, hi... a few of your concerns are already addressed in the last updates.

1. I've been playing around with Pitbull and changed the look and feel and will continue to in the following weeks ahead.

2. Now that cyCircled is dead I switched to ButtonFacade today.

3. I keep making the text bigger but it defaults back to 14, can't understand why at the moment.

4. Autobar autohide also does not seem to be working, which I am discussing with autobar's author about already.

Thank you so much for the comments, I really appreciate them!

Possible improvements:

* delete the *.bak and *old files. Takes about 14 seconds using your operating system's search utility. Saves WoWI and end-users bandwidth and disk space. Saves compilation author upload time/bandwidth.

* delete the macro, key bindings, and configuration settings that aren't required or unique to this UI. Really don't need to assume that everyone has "Realtek HD Audio output" or that keybinds for auto-run are going to be button X on the mouse, especially if you don't have mouse with that button. Not sure how this works now with server side storage of macros, and the options relating to that, but probably don't want to include the 8 or 9 macros included for fear of over-writing someone else's custom macros.

* Auctioneer... probably not a great addon to include in a UI compilation. Any addon that is dependent upon realm and user-specific data to provide it's statistical analysis and recommendations won't work all that well for someone else. Not much of an issue if it's a first-time install for a person, but if someone has been building up AH stats for a while, installing this compilation will wipe that out. Any updates to the compilation will also wipe out that data. Not sure what to do here, but I wouldn't want to have to walk people through trying to save and/or recover their data if this UI package gets installed. I would probably remove it from the compilation, with a note in the readme about AH addons - and perhaps point people to the current version of Auctioneer in case they want to install it separately.

[Edit: This is my first look at UI compilations. I don't know if similar issues exist in other packages.]

On the plus side, I like the looks of this UI. That's why I'm digging so hard into it's guts - I want to ensure things are going to work. Anytime someone says, "Just rename your WTF and Interface folders" I get suspicious about whether or not that's really the best approach for the user - or just an easy way out for addon authors and suite compilers.
