Magic Runes is a set of bars displaying rune cooldowns. It's meant as either a replacement or addition to the normal Blizzard rune display.

  • Update runic power faster rather than relying on the event only.
  • Fade runic bar using the appropriate idle alpha (in or out of combat idle alpha) if zero, 1.0 if you have any runic power.
  • Set idle alpha levels correctly when entering/leaving combat.
  • Bars no longer mouse enabled (wasn't used anyway).
  • Reset the rune types upon death related events and when entering/leaving combat (even though it seems to have worked fine before).

Version r28:
  • Fixed loading issue if if Ace3 or other addons using Ace3 hadn't been loaded prior to Magic Runes (caused configuration UI to be missing).
  • Fixed runic bar initialization issue.

I went into bar configuration and hide everything in that list because the only thing I wanted from this addon was the Magic Runes - Icon Display.

Is this OK?

I couldn't find anything to disable the big window with all the bars/icons.

Config resets after Logout

Configured everything to fit for my Interface Bars etc.
As soon as I logout and enter the game again, the configuration is reset to default.

Already tried to create a new profile etc. nothing works!

I'd also like just 3 "bars".

Wanted to chime in that with the new rune system it'd really be great to have a setup where it's just three bars with a middle divider on each bar.

how to config

I downloaded via curse. I checked that it is marked for loading at the login screen and it is but when I login I see a rune bar but I don't have any thing for magic runes under interface addons. There is no minimap button and I have tried various cammand lines just guessing what they might be /magicrunes /mr /config magic runes etc. Not sure what else to try the rune bar that showed up is empty and doesnt seem to do anything I can just move it around the screen. Any thoughts?

Suggestion for 4.0 changes

Since runes now fill sequentially, it doesn't really make any sense to care about "blood rune 1" vs "blood rune 2". Instead, it's more like there's a blood rune bar that you use 50% of whenever you use a blood rune. Any time that bar is over 50% filled, you can use a blood rune. If the bar fills up to 100%, you can use two blood runes.

The addon lets you group 2 blood runes bars next to eachother, but if the first rune is full while the 2nd one is recharging, the first rune is emptied and waits for the second rune to fill up. Graphically:

first rune full, 2nd rune recharging: [#####][###__]

currently, if you use a rune, you get: [_____][###__]

To me it makes much more sense and is easier to follow if instead there's a double-wide bar that always fills left to right, so, if rune #1 is full and rune #2 is recharging and you use the rune, you swap the two so it now looks like rune #1 is recharging and rune #2 is full:

You start with: [#####][###__]

And it changes to: [###__][_____]

If that's reasonable to do, I think it would make a great addon even better.

I've sort of changed this around a bit - now the Rune Bar is more of a simple setup than the core module. For example it can be used to make very minimal bars. The core will remain but I will try to move it into a separate module and clean up the configuration a bit (so module specific options are in the module, and general options are general).

I'll see if I can repeat and fix that one.

Edit: Err. IconDisplay.lua only has 922 lines. How can you have an error on line 1042? Try removing the installed copy entirely, and re-installing. Might have an old version or something.

So, I put the Addon in my directory, along with all of my other Addons that work. However, I do not see the runes and I do not see Magic Rune in my options for interface -> Addons. Is this normal? Or am I dong something really really wrong?
