GathererDB WoWHead  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.

This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.

Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.

How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:
  • Open Gatherer's configuration dialog.
  • Click on the red "Database" tab on the left-hand side of the dialog.
  • Click the import button in the main panel.

Make sure to add GathererDB-Wowhead to your favourites list here on WoWInterface and check back periodically to see if it's been updated, or get an email sent to you whenever they update it if you have those notifications turned on. Any time they update it, just re-download GathererDB-Wowhead and update your local copy.

Help improve the database
If you want to contribute your data back to Wowhead to continue expanding the database, please download and install the Wowhead client (available for both PC and Mac) and just follow the instructions on their site.

About Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining, or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on the minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations clearly marked on each zone's map.

About Wowhead
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: to provide World of Warcraft players with an extensive database and tools to enhance their gaming experience. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.

Our user community is a big part, if not the biggest part, of Wowhead. Almost all of our information comes from our users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important Warcraft-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!

As well as most areas being empty, most nodes are usually not there when I get there too. Confused

Radoznali,

Especially when there is what appears to be a decent, sound workaround for those who cannot live without the data, the evil real world takes precedence. As noted a couple days ago; we do hope to have something very soon, though.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

Can anyone help please? I've changed my DB_WowheadData.lua file for the one from the lloydpick site, but nothing seems to have changed - I still have loads of empty areas - what am I doing wrong??

The lloydpick only worked 90% for me. It was missing hyjal which is a nice place to farm. So what I did is opened his file on the link, not saved it but opened it from within the browser (left click) and I scrolled down to where Mount Hyjal tag was and copied it and pasted it into my imported data that worked right before Winterspring. Make sure that the copy looks the same as the other sections, than log in and import and it should work for any missing zones you have.

The problem there, as I understand it, is that the old DB info will not be accurate for any zones other than Outland and NR - the vanilla zones, having been rebuilt, have all new data for everything including ore spawns (for one simple example, there is no thorium in Burning Steppes any more).

When I follow the Lloydpick guide it won't work at all with the current version of gatherer and just that one Lloydpick file downloaded. It brings up a LUA error on load and won't import anything at all.

When I use the most up to date Norganna addon I have the same issue as others in that the import dies at 90% odd and many zones are just missing.

What I did for the moment was just to download the last-most recent version of the database and import that. It at least gives me a complete DB for Vanilla, TBC and WotLK, if not Cata stuff. I guess I'll have to wait for another update to get that!

Just tried using the lloydpick database and when I click import nothing happens. If I switch back to the old wowhead one it works fine.

EDIT:

Not that its fine. Still missing tons of zones.

Well no, it does not work perfectly at all unfortunately, no need to troll innocent people asking the questions that anybody would

User downloaded default wowhead db - doesnt work.
You are advocating downloading lloydpicks which is less than straightforward, but does, as you point out work.

Thanks to both neckchin for giving us the addon - but perhaps it might be a suggestion to communicate with lloyd who seems to have made it work?

Here's what I did:

1 - Downloaded (manually) the latest GatherDB_WowHead package from here, extracted it to my Addons folder.

2 - Renamed the DB_WowheadData.lua to .old (just so I could compare).

3 - Downloaded the DB_WowheadData.lua file from https://github.com/lloydpick/gathererdb_wowhead (the link in several messages below). NOTE: I did NOT bother downloading any of the other files at that location, because they BREAK, repeat, BREAK the entire process. You end up with a GatherDB addon that doesn't have a "Download" button!

4 - Fire up WoW, ensure Gatherer and GatherDB are enabled for one of my characters, enter the game with that character.

5 - Enter at the chat line /gatherer config. At the gather screen, click on "Database". At the new window, click on "Import". That actually integrates all the data in the DB_WowheadData.lua file (in this case, the new one I downloaded) into the Gatherer display. You'll see the "Importing Wowhead database" percentage and bar display, and it will NOT stop at 90-some percent. Works perfectly. There's data for at least the new Cata Mount Hyjal area and many others (donno if ALL the new areas or not, but it looks like it).

So, to review: use the latest GatherDB package, but replace ONLY the DB_WowheadData.lua file with the lloydpick lua data file.

Once you've performed that import once (for one character), the data will show for ALL your characters. You can then turn off the GatherDB addon (since it'll no longer be needed) and free up some memory.

Thought I'd add an extra step here, because I'm dumb and still had problems w/ these directions. I finally figured out what my problem was, and I thought anyone else as computer stupid as me might have the same issue. When you click on the DB_WowheadData.lua file on that lloyd site, and then click the Downloads button, it still downloads his whole package, not just that 1 file. So when you go to extract it....Dont. Instead, click on the 1 file, the DB_WowheadData.lua file, that you need, and simply move it to the GatherDB_WowHead inside your addons folder.

Thanks, btw, for these instructions, it does work now, and I couldn't be happier

Squiretoad,

You are correct, they are aggragated, and when enough reports from across the community, realms/factions, et cetera come in, then new locations are added to the main DB. There are a number of folks who try to purposefully send in bogus data - and some who have technical issues that corrupts files, so that helps guard against all but the most silly perpetrators.

PS The new version is just about street-worthy and should be out in a few days.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

I had the problem with the unpatched package ... but that was weeks ago, just after Cata came out (and I might not have updated the addon).

I haven't experienced it since, can't replicate the problem, and so can't even begin to address the issue, sorry. I'm very pleased with this addon (I really like seeing the icons on my maps so I can tell where to forage), and am most pleased that we have the new data. I haven't tried it in all areas (still just working through the main new zones), but haven't noticed any blank or empty areas that others mention.

I'm presuming that, if I actually discover any new herb or mineral locations that weren't in the database, those locations will be reported when I do my daily post-game WowHead Client upload?
