PlayerScore / GearScore  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 5.0.01
by: Mirrikat45 [More]

PlayerScore Overview
PlayerScore is the next evolution of GearScore and aims at providing a utility infinitely more useful then just the score of a player's equipment. PlayerScore provides raid leaders with a wealth of instant knowledge such as

  • Complete Raiding History - Allows you to view an easy to read breakdown of a player's raiding history including every boss kill and current top-tier raiding progression.
  • Equipment Layout - Well designed layout allows you to manually check a player's gear quickly and easily. Advanced item tooltips make spotting bad items even easier with flags for enchantments, gems, and reforging.
  • Primary Stats - Shows you a break down of the stats a player is gearing for. This provides a great way for raid leaders to make sure player's aren't stacking spell pen, or have 200% hit rating, or DKs gearing for Agility.
  • Talent Spec - View a player's current build. You can also flag talents as bad for a specific spec and have PlayerScore notify you in the future when a player is using those talents.
  • Automatic Character Auditing - PlayerScore will display a list of flags for when players have missing or bad gems & enchantments; bad talent specs; missing equipment; wearing equipment for another spec or class; using pvp items; or riding TRH.
  • Player Ratings - PlayerScore uses our online servers and custom anti-abuse technology to allow players to rate eachother on a thumbs up or down basis. This allows you to easily spot players who don't get along well with others or just plain suck.
PlayerScore also provides a set of very extensive options. Almost every single feature can be disabled to save memory or increase performance. You can also disable features to save space and only provide the information you care about most. You can also run the addon in "Lite Mode" which will disable the entire GUI showing only information on player tooltips.

* Masterloot mode will no longer display players from previous instance groups.

* Quick Rate Mode! In previous versions of the addon, it would become difficult to rate players at the end of a dungeon because they would quickly leave the party.

The new Quick Rate Mode attempts to remedy this by displaying a small window whenever the user exits a 5-man dungeon. There is now an option in the options menu that can disable this feature. You can also type "/psrate" at any time to open the window and rate party members. Due to previous limits within addon, only players who have been scanned by the addon at some point since the last login will appear in the quick rate frame. Finally, all players who join your party at some point during the instance will be listed in the Quick Rate Frame. This means players who join and are then vote-kicked or abandon the instance will appear for you to rate.

The Quick Rate Mode will display each Player's Name (Colored by Class), their GearScore, and Thumbs Up/Down for rating. In addition an Icon will be displayed for viewing the negative and positive factors in a player's score.

*Quick Scan mode has doubled in speed over the last version. Total is now 4 times faster then the original. As a result, it has been enabled by default.

There is an easy solution to lessen the hate over your addon and actually make it more useful than it is today: the gear score number shown in the tooltips should account for bad enchants, bad gems, missing gems, missing enchants and PvP gear.

In Web sites like wow-heroes, part of the gear score comes from enchants and gems. If you missing gems or enchants, you missing gear score. Bad gems/enchants give 0 gear score. I know you've done this already, but very few people type /gs and use the new UI or, even if they do, they do only to check the raid experience tab. Most people don't take the Talents Score seriously.

Please take this into consideration. It will not only help the community a lot, but it's easier to get Donations when people don't hate you.

(Disclaimer: I'm wordy... so this will be a detailed and long post. I apologize up front. BUT, it's full of suggestions and ideas, not just opinions.)

I agree with this post very much. Nobody likes to be judged by just what's on the cover. There's a lot more to it, under the surface, than that. People are complex. So it stands to reason that their decisions made with regard to their characters are complex. As a simple analogy, imagine getting turned down for a job... before you ever open your mouth or give your skills and experience... because you have long hair or blue eyes. It's 'ism. *giggle*

I understand that Blizzard's API might not allow the additions to the tooltip that Goodk4t proposed... but perhaps there's another way to pull focus away from PURE gear score and promote active thinking when using your addon. Would probably take a good bit of work and advertising on your part, but once you got it going good, the WoW community would help carry it for you... just like they have with the use of your addon. AND, the benefit to you would most likely be a much larger number of users and quite possibly a greater number of donations to your project.

I was thinking that one of the first things you should state on your addon pages should be bolded and colored and bordered (or whatever) to call attention to it... and should be like a disclaimer. Personally, I think it should focus on recommending that people not use JUST a gear score to judge a player's ability and usefulness. (perhaps this little disclaimer should also reside in all mouse-over tooltips as a reminder - something like "Smart players use MORE than a score.")

Also in the big disclaimer box of death at the top of your addon pages could go a more detailed explanation of how to successfully and intelligently use your addon -without- being judgmental or critical of another player's choices in gear or lack of enchants and gems. I'd personally add a line that reminded people that not all players are full-time players. Many people have full lives, including jobs and families and school, that preclude them from lengthy activities such as studying the best way to gear your character or the best gems and enchants for your spec. (yep, I fall into this category) This type of situation also prevents us from getting lots of gold in order to buy enchants and gems.

And one last suggestion for the addon information pages: Explain an example of GOOD use of your addon which includes people using ALL the information that the addon provides and making good, informed decisions while not judging or criticizing people based on their score. Someone's gear score SHOULD NOT be the end all, be all of a player's worth. And the problem right now is that a lot of people see the addon in that light.

Another important thing, I think, is to promote these ideas... not just on the addon pages, but on, say for instance, the WoW forums and other major forums. State your case. Use intelligent language and sensible ideas to promote that Gear Score should be used as a supplement when making a decision on a player for your PUG. But you should iterate, strongly, that lots of factors go in to making that decision, not just a score. And, if it were me, I would strongly discourage all these people from requiring a certain gear score for a dungeon or raid PUG. Encourage your addon users to talk to other players and make a fully rounded decision. YES, we all understand that we don't always have time to go in to detail with a lot of players and interview them for a PUG. But let that be OUR problem. Yours should be promoting good, responsible use of your addon, ya know? And make sure you state, re-state, and re-re-state these responsible uses of your product.

Obviously, people have the freedom to use the information this addon gives in any way they wish. You can't stop that. BUT, the really good, and intelligent and wise, players in the game... which are many... will use it the right way. AND, since the smart players far outweigh the not-so-smart ones, and since anything put together in a logical and sensible way appeals to these masses of intelligent players... the message would be carried through and used greatly. This would help to teach the newer players the correct way to use your addon too because they would get the overwhelming message of how to -correctly- use the addon. Yes, the retards are loud and proud, but most people listen to, and adhere to, things that make sense.

Anyway, after a long while of having that huge disclaimer box of death at the top of your addon pages, after the word is out and being carried on thoroughly within the community, you could probably move it a little farther down your page so you're not stabbing people in the face with it every time they come to update. BUT, leaving it up there doesn't hurt. It would just show your dedication to the responsible use of your addon. And those of us with brains can appreciate that a lot. =)

Okay, if you got this far... thanks for reading and considering all of my ideas. I think the addon has great potential if people would just use it properly. I think I will try it out for a while. =)

Re: GearScore 3.1.15

Dude, learn to be a decent human being? The addon is huge at this point and its easy for mistakes to be made, so try not to be insulting okay?

First its not every 3 frame updates, its every 3 seconds, and the tables created are local, so that each table is overwritten with the new data in the for/next loop. This is much better then actually using the memory to create new tables until your ram explodes.

GearScore 3.1.15

GS is causing lag and screen freezing, so I decided to examine the code to find out why.
This is a small part of what I've found:

Frame.xml - line 426+
Code:
	<Frame name="GS_GearFrame" parent="GS_DisplayFrame" toplevel="true" movable="true" enableMouse="true">
		<Scripts>
			<OnUpdate>
				GS_ExPFrameUpdateCounter = ( GS_ExPFrameUpdateCounter or 0 ) + elapsed
				if GS_ExPFrameUpdateCounter > 2 then
						if UnitName("target") and GS_DisplayPlayer == ( UnitName("target") or " " ) then
								NotifyInspect("target");
--ClearAchievementComparisonUnit(); --SetAchievementComparisonUnit("target")
							GearScore_HideDatabase(); GearScoreClassScan(UnitName("target"))
							--print("Updating")
						end
					GS_ExPFrameUpdateCounter = 0
				end
			</OnUpdate>
		</Scripts>
So, every 3rd frame update (that's 10 times per second at 30fps) you're calling GearScoreClassScan(UnitName("target")), which is located in weights.lua line 169+ and scans the player's entire equip and creates 23 new tables (230 per second) during every execution of this function:

Code:
function GearScoreClassScan(Name)

	GS_WeightsTips = {}
	PlayersSumBonuses = {}; local TotalStats = 0; local SumStats = 0; local FinalTable = {}; local SumTotalStats = 0; local TitanGrip = 0; local MissingEnchantTable = {};
	local MissingGemCount = 0; GS_MissingGemWeightsTips = nil; local TenStatCount = 0;
	local MetaGemMissing, RedGemMissing, BlueGemMissing, YellowGemMissing = 0,0,0,0
	if ( GS_Data[GetRealmName()].Players[Name] ) or LookAtCurrentTarget then
		if UnitName("target") == Name then
			for i = 1, 18 do
				local ItemSubStringTable = {}
			   	if ( i ~= 4 ) and ( GetInventoryItemLink("target", i) ) then
....
Dude, the whole addon is a mess like this. Learn to code efficiently, and learn to use recycle tables, really.

Is there a way to turn OFF the communication feature? I've seen complaints about it sending too much information too often, and I'd rather not spam everyone in my raid or guild with information they don't care about.

Framerate drops from 50 to to 30 whenever an equipment tooltip comes up.
Framerate drops to 0 and the game hangs for like 5 seconds when typing /gs.

Not having any tooltip lag when the addon is disabled.

Also my harddrive makes a constantly repeating click when moused over a piece of equipment with the addon enabled. It's the drive with WoW on it, and not my main OS drive.. I can tell by the way it sounds the drive is repeatedly trying to access something.. must be some sort of 'loop' effect in the addon's code.

Post Reply to Mirrikat45 & Goodk4t / Feedback

I use GearGauge http://www.wowace.com/addons/geargauge/
GearGauge provides 2 numbers - one is the average of the overall rating including enchants, gems, ... and one is the average item of only the items worn. Torhal explains this a lot better than me: "GearGauge assigns values to equipped items for an overall rating based upon the difference in character and item levels, whether or not gems and enchantments (if applicable) are applied, and any bonuses which are supplied."

Please don't be upset, but I have already seen warriors wear pala items, or shamans wearing hunter items, just to get a better gear score. Last week a raid leader preferred a priest for healing only because she had a better gear score due to the melee cloak
I play on a German realm and most of the people use the English language pack and English addons. They don't understand English, but they still use the addons, so they aren't even able to configure them correctly or understand the meaning of the given information. And all they see is a number, which helps them make decisions whether to take somebody along in a raid or not.
I feel like GearScore reduces me to a single number, without any content or capacity of any kind.

Since GearScore was used by more and more people on my realm (pvp), my priest is being attacked more than before. Off course I still win these battles as often as before, but I guess my gear score isn't that high according to Gear Score and the players of the other faction only see this little number, just like my faction does.
I used GearGauge and GearScore side by side, also both as a single addon for testing purpose. The funny thing is, that my rating in GearGauge is truly comparable with the rating of other players. But Gear Score shows a much lesser number for me than for many other players. How come?

I hope you have an understanding for my point of view. English is not my first language, so I hope to have expressed everything the right way.

Greetings from Germany,

Thors Liebling

I love this, and would love nothing more then to add this to the tooltip. The original GearScore did this, but Blizzard has blocked that ability by ****ing with the Gem API and now I'm limited to what I can do.

If you missing gems or echants, you missing gear score.

GearScore = GS_Data[GetRealmName()]["Players"][PlayerName]["GearScore"]

so if you were testing mouseover you would do something like:

local function GetGearScore(unitid)
local score
if UnitExists(unitid) and UnitIsPlayer(unitid) and GS_Data[GetRealmName()]["Players"][UnitName(unitid)] then
score = GearScore = GS_Data[GetRealmName()]["Players"][UnitName(unitid)]["GearScore"]
end
end

local score
if UnitExists(unitid) and UnitIsPlayer(unitid) then
score = ??
end
end

...and get a flat number.

Is there some global function I could use?
