F A Q
====================
Q. How do I post a Bug Report?
A. Go to www.wowinterface.com and search for QuestGuru. Go to the AddOn and on the right side there is a selection called "Bugs" click on that. You will need to be signed in to WoW Interface to create a bug report.
Note:
Please include the version of QuestGuru you are using and copy/paste the error message you receive. Please describe what you were doing when the error happened. This will help tremendously.
Q. How do I turn on auto-tracking of quests?
A. Look in the options for the game itself, not QuestGuru. Under Objectives there are options to set when to track quests. QuestGuru does not duplicate these settings in its own options as it could become problematic and it is not necessary to duplicate options already available.
Q. Where can I find a version compatible with WoW patch x?
A. QuestGuru is supported for the current Expansion and Patch level running on the live servers. PTR versions may be supported as Alpha or Beta releases, but I offer no guarantee.
QuestGuru ChangeLog
===================
Version 2.2.14-50300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.3
* Fixed a problem in QGT_Achievements that caused the Tracker to fail (Tracker)
* Big thanks to CMTitan who provided code to handle Scenarios that came out with MoP (Tracker)
Version 2.2.13-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Added a new sound option to announce (Thank you Drizt)
* Added a snippet of code to fix a rare QuestLog layout problem. Drizt ran into this again in MoP & kindly shared his fix for the issue.
* Fixed a few more places where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.
* Changed the Debug message for the objectives not returning data to be sensitive to the debug setting.
Version 1.5.14-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed another place where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.
Version 2.2.12-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Blizzard API GetQuestLogLeaderBoard is failing to return information for the identified objective & quest on some quests.
I changed the code to look for no information return and simply bypass processing for that objective after dumping some info into the chatlog.
I've added a slashcommand to invoke the routine at will: "/qg testui1"
For me, it's failing on "Shadow Wardens" and perhaps that's because the world tree marks are currency, not "items".
If the quest is an event quest (get 150 marks) then the type of quest should be event and the numObjectives should be zero.
Version 2.2.11-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Error being reported by some @ line 410 of QuestGuru.lua. Added some diagnostic code when text == nil
Version 2.2.10-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed some leftover diagnostic messages
Version 1.5.13-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed a problem with the Achievement Tracking
Version 2.2.9-50001 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.12-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Both - Updated several items for compatability with Mists of Panderia (Patch 5.0.x)
Version 2.2.7-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.10-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Latest revision of the Russian localization now incorporated. Thank you again StingerSoft!
* Removed some unused code. Frame "QG_QuestLogTitleMenu"
* Fixed the SetBindings problem that would cause all bindings to occassionally get lost.
Version 2.2.6-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.9-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Made several localization changes. Enabled $substitution variables in announcer to be localized as well.
* Incorporated a brand new localization for Chinese(zhCN). Credit to Honooon with many thanks.
* Incorporated an updated localization for Russian(ruRU). Credit to StingerSoft with many thanks also.
* Updated all of the localizations (even the new ones) to synchronize variable names
* I based the updates upon the default (American) localization file.
* I removed variables that were no longer in the base localization file (most moved to the QuestGuru_Tracer localization)
* and added missing variables (in American)
* We now have localizations for German, French, Russian, and Chinese (zhCN & zhTW).
* I would really appreciate it if speakers of those languages sent me updates to them.
* There are some new variables in the localizations that need translation!
Version 2.2.5-40300
-------------
* The History button call to QuestCompletist has been fixed.
Version 2.2.4a-40300
-------------
* Refixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker\QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return other than nil, 1, or 2.
Version 2.2.4-40300
-------------
* Fixed the TOC for 4.3 cata
* MrObrien has asked that somebody pickup and work on the QuestGuru so I will try and do some updates as I can't play without this mod.
Addon home is www.wowinterface.com and you can PM me there if you like. Gregity is the name.
I will be making small changes to get used to the codebase before I try anything like a major update.
* Fixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker/QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return nil
* No other new information has been added (yet).
Version 2.2.3
-------------
* Fixes for when scrolling the quest log
* The quest log frame will now remember where it was when moved
Version 2.2.2
-------------
* Tracker achievement bug fixes and flashing for completed remote quests
Version 2.2.1
-------------
* Tracker bug fix that was causing game crashes
Version 2.2
-----------
* Added quest levels to NPC dialogs where possible
* Added "Sound\\Creature\\Peasant\\PeasantWhat3.wav" to the list of sound options
Version 2.1
-----------
* Removed the History, I recommend using Quest Completist
* Fixes for Cataclysm
* Special thanks to Dridzy and Cartman for their invaluable contributions
Version 2.0 Beta 2
------------------
* QuestGuru now modifies the quest log to add quest level and checkboxes for tracking quests (like previous versions of QuestGuru)
Version 2.0 Beta 1
------------------
* Incorporated History function, QuestGuru History is no longer a separate module
* QuestGuru is now a modification of the built-in quest log, rather than a replacement
* History is no longer stored on your computer but is retrieved from the server instead
* Removed some features that were causing problems and slimmed down the addon to reduce memory usage
* Upgraded to ChatThrottleLib v21

Actually, it's designed to remember everything that was tracked, and make sure it is tracked again the next time you log in. If it isn't doing this, there could be another addon that is interfering with this functionality.
Originally posted by DaemonSambe There are a couple features that i'd like to request:
1. Primary: An option to simply track all quests, regardless of quest tracking status. Simply load all of my current quests into the tracker. I can hide the ones i'm not working on, by dropping the zone header.
I really don't like looking at the quest log. Really, it's because i almost never need to. I've run so many toons, and dailies, the log is unimportant. However, i cannot always remember what quests are in the log, so use the tracker for this.
Actually, i've modified the lua to simply ignore the IsQuestWatched flag, and load everything anyway. It just suits me better.
2. A quick way to abandon/share quests from withing the tracker alone. Say ctrl right click to abandon, and Shift right click to share.
I hate loading the actually quest log. Too many clicks.
3. The icons that load for quests that have an item, should be removed when the quest is compelted.
This is primarily, asthetics, as when having a few quests in a row with items, upon completion, the icons become jumbled.
4. A feature i saw on another quest tracker, was an indicator when you are within the 'zone/area' for a particular quest, caused the quest to become highlighted in the tracker.
Not terribly important, but useful when you're running large chuncks of quests on leveling.
5. A keybind to hide the tracker completely, without having to remove all of the quests, or minimize it down.

1. If the options in the game's interface options are set correctly, all new quests will be added to the tracker as they are picked up, so really the only time you need to manually add quests is the first time QuestGuru is used.
2. Currently (and for quite some time), clicking a quest title in the tracker brings up the quest log to that quest, right-clicking shows/hides the objectives, shift-clicking adds the quest link to the chat window, and shift-right-clicking brings up a menu that allows for sharing, abandoning, and untracking the quest. I think the menu had been broken for a few versions, but it works again now.
3, 4, 5. I will keep these suggestiong in mind as I continue development.

Only shows up on one toon, if i have the Option to 'Show quest item icons'
One another toon, this option is also set, but shows up properly and causes no error.

Where is this button? Am I missing something? I don't see it. I did a clean install of 1.0.7 too. I was really starting to get used that little achievements pane too! I run just the tracker only since all I do is dailies now.
Sorry, I should have been clearer on this. The button will appear next to the little Minimize button on the tracker, but only if you have quests AND achievements tracked. If you only have one or the other tracked, you will only see the tracker for what is tracked. And of course if nothing is tracked then the tracker won't show up at all.
Originally posted by mrobrian Version 1.0.7 has been uploaded and should be available soon. This is mostly a bug fix release, but the tracker is back to its old look again, too. There is a new button to switch between Quests and Achievements, with the option to toggle showing both. The option to show/hide the border on the tracker is back, but the option to not use the tracker has been removed since it is its own addon now.
Load time and memory use should be decreased, and Alt quest status in the tooltips should work again, though you might need to log in to each of your alts to update their status. Worldmap icons for quest givers should be back, but still not working right in Cartographer.

I was hoping such was the case. Thank you for clearing that up, and I am sorry I took your time for such a piddly little complaint. I really like your work here, and I benefit from it every day.
As long as I may still have your attention, I have a question, preceded by some background.
I used to use an AddOn called JasonQuest which was very handy for following party members' quest progress, if they are also using JQ. It actually had objective progress for each of the party in a tracker. Since that mod stopped working some time ago, we have been using QuestAgent, which provides a LDB output with a quest listing for each party member in the tooltip. If you click on a quest in an individual's listing, it pops up a Blizzard-like quest log frame (which is in addition to the normal quest log, Blizzard or custom) for that individual with all of the normal quest information for him/her. It works, but I liked JasonQuest having it there on the screen without the need to click a couple of times like we have to do with QuestAgent. There are other custom quest log mods such as QuestsFu, TomQuest2, MonkeyQuest, that provide party objective progress in their logs.
I wouldn't mind the extra clicks if it wasn't a special and additional AddOn installed solely for the purpose of tracking the party quests. I would rather use only my favorite quest log mod (QuestGuru) which does everything I need EXCEPT show my party's quest progress. Is this something you are already planning to add to QG in the future, or if not can you think about it?

Thank you!
I am making a lot of changes to the tracker. The option to remove the border will be back in the next version, switching between quests and achievements will be a button rather than tabs, and there will be the option to view both trackers at the same time.

For anyone having problems auto-tracking quests, go into the options for the game itself and look for the Objectives section. There are two options in there for quest tracking, one will track quests when you pick them up, the other will track quests on progress. Make sure those options are set the way you want them to be for tracking and everything should work ok.
