Athene's Gear Check  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.73
by: Athene_ [More]

This addon will quickly and easily give you information about the gear of the target player or yourself. Also tells you the item level of items.

The information on the gear is given as the average item level of the equipment, colored in a fitting color (red for bad gear, green for good gear).
If the avg ilvl doesn't mean anything to you, look at the color.
If the color isn't accurate enough for you, look at the avg ilvl
However, remember that the avg ilvl doesn't tell you that the player is properly geared. For all you know it might be a resto druid in epic feral gear

The coloring of the quality is scaled to the level of the player, so the addon is just as accurate for twinks and levelers as for lvl80's.
To make the quality of BoA items accurate, they will count as a green\blue of the same level as the player.

For those extra curious, the addon will also count and list how many items the player has of each rarity(green\blue\epic etc). Just remember, an epic item isn't always very good, it could be a lvl80 still wearing lvl 70 pvp epics. So don't use the item rarities to figure the gear quality of the player.
IMO this information is most useful for quickly figuring the reason of the avg ilvl, or checking if the player is geared with BoA.

The targeted player must be in range to be inspected. Once the gear information is aquired, the addon saves the information for later when the target is out of range.
You can also check the gear of players of the other faction, but only if you are allowed to inspect them (sanctuaries).

IMO the information given by the addon is most useful when you want to know if anyone in your party or raid has crap gear. It will be very, very easy to make sure noone in the raid is geared in lots of greens.
It could also be a way to see if your twink or low lvl char needs upgrades.

Commands:
- /agc : gives you a list of possible commands.
- /agc lookup (playername) : gives you the saved info on that player.
- /agc report (playername) : reports your saved info on the player to raid/party.
- /agc report (number) : reports to raid/party all players in raid/party that have an avg ilvl lower than (whatever number you want).

Additional features with Recount installed:
- List of the avg ilvl of everyone in the party/raid.
- Print the list of party/raid ilvls to whereever you want.
- Mouseover a player in Recount to see exactly what gear the player is wearing.

1.2:
- Fixed 2 bugs related to checking your own gear quality.
- Fixed a bug related to item tooltips.

1.3:
- Removed the error occuring when targeting some NPC’s
- No longer adds text to tooltip for NPC’s.
- adds a more fitting text to tooltip for players with unknown gear.

1.4:
- Removed the error msg at mouseover that appears when some other addon interfers with AGC. Found no way to fix the actual problem caused by the other addon.
- The addon will now save the equipped gear at every scan, to make the Recount plugin more useful.
- Fixed some tooltip errors.

1.5:
- Fixed a small bug causing error msg.
- Removed ilvl on items
- Added command /agc (playername) to check database for a player’s gear

1.51
- Fixed a bug with /who

1.6
- Reduced the amounts of data saved to file. The addon will automaticall clear unneccacery datas the next time you see a saved player.
- Added item icons to the recount list when you mouseover players, making it easier to recognice slots.
- Added date to saved gear datas
- Added various reporting functions. Type /agc to get a list of commands.

1.61
- Fixed a bug when summing up the gear qualities for players.

1.62
- Shortened the date note in tooltips

1.63
- Fixed the negative numbers in “x days ago” in tooltips.
- Fixed the “you aren’t in a party” bug.

1.64
- Fixed a few small bugs

1.7
- Each client will now send new information to other clients in raid, party, guild and friends list, making the information for each client on each player a lot more up to date.

1.71
- Fixed the “you are not in a guild” bug
- Fixed the “you are not in a party” bug when in a BG

1.72
- Turned off the message about receiving info from other users.
- To match the increased max item level, the gear quality coloring is changed alittle.

1.73
- Items of ilvl 1 will no longer count.
- Fixed a bug causing the avg ilvl in character screen disappearing
- Sharing of datas is now an option, turned off by default.
- You can now have AGC to show all members in raid with less than X avg ilvl, where X is whatever you want.

I've noticed an issue with this addon that seems to happen most often when I'm in a raid, but I see it randomly around town too. WIth the addon running, when I try to inspect someone I can't see their gear tooltip (or shift click it in to chat), when I hover it just shows the type ("Ring", "Trinket", etc). Disabling the addon and reloading brings it back to normal.

I LOVE this addon and so far am just copign with not knowing what people have, but I'd really really love to get this fixed. Thanks.

Ye, I'm aware of this. Earlier I did a change that reduced the memory it takes, but it will still keep using more memory with time. This is because the gear of players you mouseover is actually saved to file, making it possible for you to see the quality later.
I will probably make the addon delete datas that are getting old.
Meanwhile, if you want to, you can delete all saved info by entering the folder World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\(accountname)\SavedVariables and delete the file AthenesGearCheck.lua. This will reset all saved information. Remember to quit WoW before you delete the file, or it will be remade when you exit.

interface version

any chance to get the TOC file fixed with the next release?

"## Interface: 32000" should be
"## Interface: 30200" nowadays...

I hate to have "load outdated mods" active and manually fixing this gets a bit boring after a few versions.

GREAT mod though - don't want to go without it.

If you search the wow forums for this type of crash, it is quite common. I myself had it a few times (without this addon) altough Blizz do blame it on 3rd party addons. If memory serves deleting your WTF folder and renaming your interface folder, will set the ui back to default. Then put your addons back in one at a time, you will have to rearrange everything, but better than new ram or a fresh install.

Is it posible to change it in something like: Average ilvl: 200 - and nothing more?
Thanks for this change ^^

Thanks for telling. I haven't had any trouble myself and I haven't heard others getting this, but I'll look into it.

For solving the problem with rantTooltip (and other tooltip addons), you might want to check out how GatherSage2 has handled this problem (did a search for 'rantttooltip' in description, their code is to me but might help you ).

I disliked that as well, but just go in the .lua and search for 'AGC ilvl:'. Then, remove the lines that contain them.

It will be uploaded when Im done testing a new feature.

Adding text to a tooltip is no biggie. Extracting text from a tooltip when it doesn't actually exist in the tooltip, however... that's hard
Here are the problems:
UnitIsPlayer("mouseover") won't work. Unit is nil.
UnitName("mouseover") won't work. Unit is nil.
CanInspect("mouseover") won't work. Unit is nil.
UnitLevel("mouseover") won't work. Unit is nil.
GetInventoryItemLink("mouseover", i) won't work. Unit is nil.
GameTooltip:GetUnit() won't work. Unit is nil.
If I remember correctly, even GameTooltip:AddLine("") doesn't work, text doesn't appear anywhere. Makes me wonder if Rant removes the normal tooltip and creates it's own.
These problems only occur to me when Rant is turned on.
