Give Me Peace
Build 40300-R1 Released 9th December 2011

Are you tired of the constant spam whispered to you from Gold sellers, Scammers, and other random whispers such as boost requests?

This addon is designed to block ALL whispers sent to your character who are not first authorised by you and silenty whisper the blocked player informing them that their whisper was hidden from you and ignored. Note that GM whispers are automatically authorised.

On loading of your character both your friends and guild list are scanned and automatically authorised by the addon and any whispers from those players will be shown as normal unless you manually add a player from your friends or guild list to the built in ignore feature.

Why did I write this?

Give Me Peace is an addon which I designed and programmed because of a few hours of constant whisper spam caused by a level 1 standing in Stormwind shouting "LFM For The Alliance, whisper Afterlife for invite".

Features Include:
  • Auto scan friends/guild on login
  • Auto authorise those you whisper first - i.e. when you whisper someone to join a raid or party.
  • Inform the blocked player that his whisper was ignored and not visible by you and telling him if he feels he shouldnt be blocked to send you a in-game mail.
  • Customise the whisper sent to the blocked player.
  • Add/Delete or Ignore players manually - remember that all who are not authorised are ignored automatically, the ignore option is to override a friend or guild member who was scanned and authorised on login.
  • Auto allow GM whispers.
  • Show or play a sound when messages are blocked.
  • Log all blocked messages for the current session which can be viewed by typing /peace blocked
  • Option to save any blocked whispers across characters.
The default message sent to a player who is not on your authorised list reads:

"Important: Your whisper was rejected and hidden from <your name> because you are not on <your name>'s list of authorised friends. If you feel you should be on <your name>'s list then please send an in-game mail."

This default message is stored in the local.lua file and can be translated to your native language. If you translate this file please find the time to send it to me by private message and i'll include it in the release.

For options use /peace in-game. For quick switching ON/OFF of the addon you can use /peace toggle from the chat or inside a macro on your spell bar.

I hope you enjoy the use of this addon and the peace it brings with it. Please feel free to provide any feedback or offer suggestions.

Take care.
Updated and fixed for patch 4.3 - please test and report any issues. =)

Not adding guild members

Hello,

First off great addon.
But I'm having an issue. Everything seems to work correctly except it won't allow guild members to send whispers until / unless I add or whisper them first.
I have tried opening the social window and guild to no avail. Friends list auto-added properly and if I whisper people they are added correctly. Adding names manually also works.
Just not auto-adding guild members. I have double checked that the "auto add guild member list" option is indeed selected.

Any thoughts ?

This is an odd one which none has had an issue with both in my guild and various friends on the server.

First thing to try is log off World of Warcraft and delete the saved settings file found in C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<Your Account Name>\SavedVariables\ called Peace.lua then open the game and log in as normal.

On opening the addon should scan both your guild and friends list, if it doesnt then the second thing to try is open the options window by typing /peace and click the Reset Authorised List button which will manually tell the addon to scan both the friends and guild list - let me know if your needing to manually tell the addon to scan on your machine since another addon could be conflicting with it.

In such cases where its still failing could you possibly send me the Peace.lua file by private message or by direct email to m i c h a e l . b o y l e @ s o f t r i x . c o . u . k and i'll test the addon with your file and try to replicate your problem here. Furthermore, any addons you are using or UI mods would be helpful.

Sorry for the spaces in the email address but it just stops spam from bot crawlers across the internest.

The file i need is located in:

C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<Your Account Name>\SavedVariables\

If you can get this file to me as soon as possible i'll check it out.

Hi again,

Deleted the Saved variables file as you suggested and no difference.

But...I "Reset Authorized List" and got a notification that members and friends were added, so all is well. Sorry for the scare.

In hindsight I should have hit that button before I sent the false alarm but I guess I had a "blind moment".

Thank you for your help and again, great addon.

Re: Not adding guild members

I think it would be awesome if you added the option of letting players authenticate themselves by simply whispering a keyword; kinda like that WRUGS addon from a long time ago. Just saying

been having problems

For me this addon isn't blocking people that aren't on my friends list or guild list. I went on an unguilded alt, my friends list is completely empty, and people in trade, general and user channels were able to whisper me. Is there any kind of fix for this?

edit: ok I narrowed down the issue kind of, apparently it's conflicting with another addon. Going to see which of my addons it's doing that with.

edit2: Found the conflicting addon. Give Me Peace has conflicts with Total RP addon. Not sure what the 2 are doing that's breaking this addon, so hopefully the author can figure out the problem.

I'll check this over. Thanks for the heads up.

Give Me Peace

Please Note:

I have no plans to work on the Give Me Peace addon any further and the only reason it was updated for 4.3 was due to a promise I made on Curse. However, if someone wants to take this project over then please let me know.

I need to dedicate any spare time on the popular Afterlife Crowd Control and Natur Enemy Castbar addons.
