EventHorizon now has a Discord: https://discord.gg/mR8xUUK. Come say hi!
Also, EventHorizon is now on github: https://github.com/Brusalk/EventHorizon_Continued -- You can find the latest changes there, but releases will still be released here and on Curse.
-Brusalk (Kilrogg-US)
EventHorizon is now updated and working for Shadowlands. Just download the most recent version and you should be good to go!
If you have and comments, concerns, questions, suggestions, anything, don't hesitate to contact me either through comments here or via mail or whisper in game.
If you feel that the class config for your class is not up to snuff then please let me know why and update it yourself!
There is now a how-to on class configuration below!
There is also a how-to on customization of how EH looks below as well. Check it out!
Please be aware that I'm rewriting this addon from scratch to be released officially soon (tm). Addon development has had to take a backseat to real life for the past few months though I've been working on it as much as I can. (Also, coming in the rewrite is an in-game configuration menu as well as the ability to alter class-configs in-game to make it easier to customize EH.)
If you have a few extra bucks this month and you like all my work, consider chipping in
What does EventHorizon do?
EventHorizon displays all of your class/spec's rotational abilities on a common time scale. This means that instead of seeing a regular percentage-based timer bar, EH shows you exactly what is happening in relation to everything else. If that sounds complicated at all, just look at the screenshots.
The basic idea: An ability that lasts 12 seconds and has 6 seconds remaining shouldn't look exactly the same as one that lasts 5 minutes and has 2.5 minutes remaining.
Videos showing EH in action:
Dezzimal posted a great instructional video using a Shadow Priest for reference.
breakingsong demonstrated EH on a Destro Warlock.
Also, for instant gratification, here's a quick snippet showing a Shadow Priest's rotation at 1 frame per second, using an older layout:
The big white line is the current time. Future events are on the right side, past events on the left. As time goes by, the events scroll from right to left.
The green bars are your cast bars. They use exactly the same times that your normal cast bar would display, with all haste modifiers applied.
You can also see cooldowns, DoTs, and their ticks (predicted in the future, and from the combat log in the past). EventHorizon is extremely intelligent when dealing with most things DoT/HoT-related.
The white lines that appear before the cast times are the times when you press the button (send the cast message to the server). The difference between this line and the start of the cast is your lag.
How do I set it up?
EventHorizon does not include an in-game configuration UI. However, it really doesn't need one - Everything should "just work".
Power users and those wishing to theme EventHorizon for a specific UI, please read on to the advanced portion of this section. Don't worry, it's easier than it may seem.
The basics:
* The window may be moved via the drag-handle on the upper right frame corner. It may be a little hard to see at first, but will light up as soon as you mouse over it.
* You can show/hide EventHorizon manually by using /eventhorizon or /ehz.
Advanced configuration:
Note: I would highly recommend an advanced text editor such as VS Code if you wish to edit the configuration files. While this isn't required by any means, an editor with syntax highlighting makes changing the files MUCH easier.
* The default configuration for EventHorizon is located in EventHorizon\config.lua. This file contains every setting available for EH and is heavily commented to help tweak things to your liking. This file may be deleted and EventHorizon will maintain its functionality (not that I would ever recommend doing that).
* Any changes you make to config.lua will be removed when you update EventHorizon. This is by design. HOWEVER, there's an easy way to get around that. Simply create a new file (or a copy of config.lua) named "myconfig.lua". This file is automatically loaded, and because it loads after config.lua, the settings in myconfig.lua will always be the ones to appear in-game.
Files
There are 2 files which you can edit to change the physical appearance of EventHorizon including colors, size, global functionality and other things. I'm going to assume that you have the most recent version of the configuration file provided in the most recent version of EventHorizon.
config.lua:
You can think of this as the default settings of EventHorizon. If you want to change settings then you can do so here, but when you download a new version of EventHorizon you have to be careful as the new version includes config.lua and will overwrite any changes you've made to this file. You can always skip this file when overwriting, but it's better to use myconfig.lua as it's intended to avoid this problem.
myconfig.lua:
This file overwrites any values in config.lua with the values changed inside it. So if you have config.width set to 375 in config.lua and config.width set to 200 in myconfig.lua, EventHorizon will use 200 as the value.
Where this is useful is that myconfig.lua is never included in the updated versions of EventHorzion, and as such will never be overwritten when downloading a new version of EventHorizon.
As such best practice is to alter any values you wish to change in config.lua by changing the values inside myconfig.lua.
Configuration
In order to change settings of something you just have to change the text after the equals sign on the line with the setting you want to change.
For example if you wanted to change the width of the addon you would change line 33 which normally reads (by default)
config.width = 375 -- Width of a single bar....
config.width = 200 -- Width of a single bar....
local EHN,ns = ... local config = EventHorizon.config local c = EventHorizon.colors local _,class = UnitClass('player') -- These locals make in-line conditions a little easier. See the color section for a few examples. local DK = class == "DEATHKNIGHT" local Druid = class == "DRUID" local Hunter = class == "HUNTER" local Mage = class == "MAGE" local Paladin = class == "PALADIN" local Priest = class == "PRIEST" local Rogue = class == "ROGUE" local Shaman = class == "SHAMAN" local Warlock = class == "WARLOCK" local Warrior = class == "WARRIOR" --[[ EDIT BELOW THIS LINE ]]--

I looked over the message board here, but didn't see my question, so I thought I'd ask. I know that the majority of the configuration for this addon is done via a config file. In fact, I think the only things you can do in-game are show/hide and move the frame.
I was wondering if it would be possible to request the ability to re-size the frame from within WoW. I'm running at a fairly high rez, with the scaling turned down to it's lowest, so the EventHorizon frame is only about the width of my unit frame. I realize that I could, through trial and error re-size the frame via config file, but that's a bit of a pain having to log on and off so much. Now, if this feature is planned, or if there's another way to do it that I don't know about, then you can just ignore my post oh.... and if there is an easier way... pleae enlighten me |

Re: Curse Updater
Eep! I'm not sure what would be required to fix that.
On the bright side, EH probably won't be updated on Curse for a while, you may be able to set the client to ignore it. |

Curse Updater
dunno if this has been posted before, if so - I'm sorry.
If any of you guys use Curse updater, copy a backup of myconfig.lua to a different folder! - Curse will say the addon was "modified" - Upon upgrading/reinstalling EH, everything in the EventHorizon folder (including your myconfig.lua) will be deleted had to find this out the hard way and manage to run an instance without properly set up EH :/ Taroven: thank you for this wonderful addon. it fits right next to my hp and target bar and shows all i need as bear and cat gotta try it with other classes as well soon. Edit1: typos Edit2: thanks! :P

Axis will have multiple frame support, though I can't guarantee automatic target/focus support for it. It'll be easy to do though.
I'd just ditch all the focus and long cooldown crap on EH and use another tracking method, save yourself the headache. |

SexyCooldown looks REALLY nice, and the onscreen announcements like "trinket is ready now" are great. |

Sometimes, however, it really is better to mix a few addons.
SexyCooldown is my big recommendation. It'll watch internal cooldowns and quite a few other things on a logarithmic scale, which you can easily set up alongside EH or somewhere else. It can also watch debuffs and such however you like, which works out rather nicely with EH. The rest of my statement stands. You really do need to take better care of your UI. Being able to see the game is a good thing, y'know? |

Thank you for the feedback. However, I will not be taking any action in regard to your concerns.
Color coding: Planned for Axis, has been for quite some time. 1) Won't be an issue in Axis. Not going to bother trying to fix for EventHorizon since it would mean rewriting many, many things. Channeled spells simply don't play nice with auras. You've got plenty of other bars, put one of the dead ones to use. 2) So basically, rather than catch the casting time once at the beginning of the cast, you want EH to constantly check it. There's a few problems with that. - First and foremost, there's no GetSpellCastTime(spell) function. All we get is UnitCastingInfo(unitid), which allows us the ability to find the timer (meaning, exact time of start and stop) of the spell currently being cast. The only other way is to scrape information from the spell tooltips. Wouldn't be so bad if all tooltips were created equal (meaning all information in the same spot every time, or at least worded the same), but then... - We'd have to scrape the tooltip every single time any buff or debuff is gained or lost on the player, in addition to whatever event signifies haste changes... hell, might as well just check it 10 times a second via an OnUpdate, since that's about how often that all happens anyway. Let's just ignore the fact that tooltips don't always update instantly. - Did I mention yet that all this would add about a huge amount of code to EventHorizon while making it use a gigantic amount of processing power? It's a guideline. Some things are done in a simple way for good reason, or perhaps because there's no real reason to make them more complicated. The recast line is one of those things, and trust me - It's using the exact same code in Axis. Taking a step back from the addon dev role for a moment: While I can at least pretend to understand your concerns and would be absolutely thrilled to help if the requests were at all feasible, I believe you have bigger fish to fry at the moment and would like to direct your attention to them. You've got a 17-bar EventHorizon layout. I can't even tell wtf is going on with it aside from two Haunt bars, two Shadow Bolt bars, two Drain Soul bars, something having to do with your trinkets, and 4 bars that didn't even twitch for the entire encounter you shared. Let's go over that again. 17 bars. Duplicate spells. Spells that you probably shouldn't even be wasting space on because they're omnipresent anyway or have too damn long of a cooldown for EH to be useful for. That's not 7k+ DPS easymode, that's information overload in a UI that seriously hurts to look at. Edit: Grammar fails me.

I would like to thank you for keeping this project alive. Easily the best addon ever for an affliction warlock.
Would like to report few issues that come to my mind that could be corrected: 1. I changed the default warlock configuration file the way that shadow mastery debuff was displayed "under" the drain soul line (added the debuff = 17800, line under Drain Soul chunk of code). The problem is, each time I cast Shadow Bolt, followed by Drain Soul, Shadow Bolt lands actually after I start casting DS, and refreshing the debuff, makes the vertical "tick" bars disappear, making it nearly impossible to guess when to "break" drain. You can see this happening at 2:42 of the following video <<youtube link>> 2. The haste changes that take place during combat not always changing the length of the "suggested recast safe zone" are making me opt for just letting the dot fall off completely and recast them afterwards, which is not optimum. You can see this happening on my video at 0:59 when eradication pops and I have to recast UA few seconds later and just decide to cast some filler, because the real cast time of UA at that moment was clearly shorter than suggested. I use heavily modded and textured version of your addon but both of these are happening in original version too. Color coding by spell (allthough maybe a bit overkill) might come in handy for people like me (you'll understand why if you watched the video) |

I will likely upload the UI sometime soonish, just keep in mind that the opening in the bottom panel has a pretty specific size, and while it works for some/most talent specs- it might not work for all.

Here's a screeny of mine, from a random lowbie BT run a few days back. I designed my oUF layout around EH forever ago, it's been evolving ever since. BTW, I've got a tiny little unreleased addon that tweaks Recount's buttons, hiding them until mouseover. Looking at that screenshot, looks like you might like it. Download's here. |
