Elitist Group  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v1.7.6
by: Shadowed [More]

Elitist Group's goal is to shift focus away from single scores which don't tell you anything about the users choice of gear. Instead of a single score, Elitist Group shows you a variety of data from the players experience per dungeons and raid (can be broken down by boss), to whether their choice of equipment, enchants or gems fit their spec. You can still see the players average item level as well, but it's not the primary focus and only there to give you an idea of a players gear.

All user data will be compressed on logout to keep the database size more manageable. However, a variety of database management options are included to delete data after a certain period of time, or not save data on people from another server.

Interested in people being able to see your mains experience or request your data, but don't want the entire addon? Take a look at Elitist Group Sender, which does nothing more than respond to experience or data requests.

Slash command: /elitistgroup (/eg) use /eg help for a list of slash commands.

Bugs? Suggestions? Items flagged wrong?
Easiest way to report anything is through the ticket tracker. Should you be reporting an item being flagged incorrectly, make sure you include as much details as to why it's wrong.

How are items categorized?
Based on stats. Spell Power is a caster item, Hit is for DPS, Strength is only for melee dps, Defense for tanks and so on. As you can see in the screenshots, you are given what an items type is. Whether an item is allowed or not is based on spec, meaning Holy Paladins will be flagged for wearing Retribution gear, but a Retribution Paladin will not.

If somebody is missing an enchant or gem, Elitist Group will also tell you that.

Summary
To speed up checking out your raid or dungeon group, you can use /eg summary. It will quickly inspect everyone in your group and give you a summarized report on the status of their gear, enchants and gems.

Player notes
Finished a dungeon, was your tank amazing? Notes will allow you to rate him 1 - 5 and leave a comment for future reference, these can even be synced between your friends or guild. You can leave one note per person, with your most recent note being used. Use /eg rate to open this.

Dungeon experience
Quickly see how much experience a player has in a particular dungeon or raid, broken down by hard modes and even by pass. For raids, players are experienced after roughly 3 clears and for 5 mans it's around 6 (combined runs, not 6 of each). The scoring is setup to reward full clears. That way, somebody who can only clear the first 4 bosses of 25-man Trial of the Grand Crusader will have to do a lot more clears to be considered experienced, compared to the person who can full clear it.

To make it easier on players, achievements are factored into the experienced weighting. For example, A Tribute to Insanity and The Immortal will count for a full clear. Even doing 25-man Uldaur hard mods will increase your 25-man Ulduar normal mode experience.

No reason your alt should be left out of the fun because you haven't done a dungeon on the character yet. As of v1.5, you can setup a character as your main and whenever people request your data in Elitist Group they will see your mains experience. No more being left out because of an inexperienced alt!

Item level
To stop 200 item level blues being worth the same as 200 item level epics, simple modifiers are applied to item level based on quality: -0% epic, -5% blue, -10% green, -40% white, -50% grey. Heirlooms are considered 187 item level blues at 80, or 2.22 item level/per player level.

Suggested dungeons are the lowest item dropped -11% for 5-mans, -10% for normal 10 and 25 mans and a -9% modifier for heroic 10 and 25 mans.

Addon communication
Notes and player data can be synced. Players can request your gear or notes at any time; however, you can disable all communications entirely so you will not send or parse to them. Finer control over what channels to monitor is also included in /eg config, you can set it to not listen for gear requests from party or raid, but still in guild.

While in combat, you will not send or parse comm messages.

To prevent people from corrupting your database, Elitist Group will not accept other players gear data unless the player themselves sent it (Johnny can send his gear data, Steve cannot send Johnny's unless Steve is on your trusted list).

As of v1.5, more complicated syncing has been added to allow you to send your entire user or notes database, see here for information.

It's been fixed, I need to redo the system for trinket detection though. Alchemist's Stone should be fixed too, but not positive.

Paladin Libram

In the current version 0.11-beta you have got the Paladin Libram Libram of Valiance as a tank Libram. While that is true for those that use it for threat or mitigation sets primarily it is a DPS Libram.
Since it has dual uses what about a "Tank/DPS" item type ranking or some such?

Ok, don't take this the wrong way, although it looks nice, I don't plan to use it. No one has the right to judge someone else's experience and/or gear. I have the same issue with GS. Just because you have cleared a bunch or have decent gear doesn't mean you are a good player. It could simply mean they've had a LOT of people carrying their sorry ass.

On the other hand, you can have a GREAT player, but has crap gear because no one is willing to take them because they don't "meet their standards" because of mods like this.

Again, this is not a direct attack, but just simply immediate questions that come to mind. Who/what gives you the right to rate anyone's experience? What scales are you using? You provided a few examples of scoring, but how and what are these scores? Why should people let you decide how their gems should be (I'll admit, this one irked me a bit). So if I'm running low on hit% and the mod deems a hit% gem isn't right for my spec, I would get penalized for it?

To install and run groups based of these types of mods is basically agreeing that the authors get to decide if you are playing correctly or if you're geared enough to run something. That's something for me, the paying customer, to decide, not some lua calculations. There are just to many unknowns, variables and situations (like the undergeared, awesome guy example) to consider, which is why I don't like mods like this.

Again, please don't take offense. I respect your work and time put into, just giving my $.02 on what I think of mods like this.

EDIT:

Right here. What qualifies as "bad equipment"? What's a "bad enchant"? According to this, all 10 of these guys suck because they don't "Pass" the mod, which may not be the case at all. This is the kind of mindset that mods like this create.

Hi Shadowed, would you possibly consider adding Enchant Weapon - Major Intellect to the list of acceptable enchants, as it is still useful for holy paladins.

I made an account on this site because your comment irked me. So I chose the rogue in your picture, Caladaar, to scrutinize for invitation to a ToC 25 raid (based on his ilvl) and came out with the following criticism: the mod is not even nearly as elitist as you think it would be for the truly elitist.

He's over the expertise cap. -1 point.
Despite this, he gemmed for the expertise bonus in his belt with a blue-quality green gem. -3 points for severity of stupidity.
He's under the poison hit cap (237) even if there were Spriests/Boomkins in the raid, and dreadfully under it (315) if there weren't any. -2 points for under cap, -2 points for not knowing his class/not reading up.
He's using a PVP head enchant. -2 points.
He gemmed for arpen/stam with a purple gem instead of using a Nightmare Tear. Correct socket bonus to get, wrong gem. -1 point.
His trinkets are terrible despite the 250 emblem achievement. -1 point for both trinkets for 2 points total.
His offhand weapon is 1.8 speed and 65 AP chanted. That is a terrible enchant. -2 points.

Total: -15 points.

Assuming I'm elitist enough to assign a score basis tolerance of -5 points for an invite, the rogue is twice as terrible as the average player I would invite. Do you really think I would take him? No. However, the addon isn't even remotely close to being as elitist as I would expect it to be, and going back to your comment of poor GS good player? Inviting him in the hopes of getting an awesome player is futile. I would much rather invite the person sporting a 5.6k Gearscore, as if they were of the same poor skill, the 5.6k GS would autoattack for more damage.

So yes, the addon isn't as useful as one would think, but it would still have its uses in pointing out people who don't know what they're doing. And yes, everyone pointed out in your picture is terrible in one way or another.

PS: This was written from the POV of an elitist. I probably couldn't care less what his gear was if he managed not to stand in fire.

Minty: Most of the detections are based on initial gatherings, if there is something flagged incorrectly then it can get fixed. I'm probably going to end up redoing everything and how it classifies people, because right now Paladins can wear Spirit and such.

ChaosINC:

Anytime it mentions something as bad or not passing, it tells you why, this is really something you should have just tried yourself instead of basing it off what you see in the screenshots. In the case of the screenshot I took that in a battleground so most of the people were wearing PVP stuff. If you mouseover the equipment for Burbenog you'd probably see something like "<item name> - PVP item." This is true for all of it, the summary and user equipment shows whats wrong with an item.

I'll just quote what I said on another site regarding this:

You could be wearing a full suit of blue gear with green gems and level 60 enchants, as long as they are correct (spell power/spirit/mp5 rather than agility/strength/etc), it will say your gear is fine.

There are only two scenarios that you would be flagged falsely: you are doing a dungeon and a caster dps piece is better than your healer item even with spell power, the other is you are wearing blues and everything is going to be replaced in a hour anyway so you donít want to enchant it.

The first case is rather rare and really just applies to casters, the second case is an interesting issue that Iíve been thinking about. There isnít an easy way to solve it beyond maybe flagging blues as being allowed to not have enchants.

When you get down to it, Elitist Group tells you nothing that inspection wonít. And it does not (and will not) boil down to a single arbitrary number such as Gearscore does.

Or how about we spend less time judging other people and just play the stupid game? People spend far too much time judging people to what THEY think they should be rather than just playing and having fun.

THAT'S what my entire point is.

Relax. My response is a directed to Minty, not yours. You at least had a reasonable argument. I did not install the addon, so perhaps I'm not fully "in the know" on it's functionality.

His response was... well... pointless and just trying to incite a flame war.

I concede to "agree to disagree" and let it drop. I left my $.02 on the matter and will leave it at that. If Minty would like to continue, then by all means there's the PM button.

Actually, no. Being completely hit-capped as a rogue is incredibly hard, and requires a specific collection of gear and gems that would show you do in fact know what you are doing. Further to this, being 3% over the poison cap is still beneficial to a rogue, as the importance of haste and the resulting gemming of it makes hitting the crit cap much easier. To counter this, it is inevitable that the common rogue in T10 must gem for either more hit or... more hit.

If you're going to argue with my example, at least make it "a mage is 3% over hit cap". Then yes, the player would have made a mistake in choosing his gear, as it gives him no benefit whatsoever.

Hey, nice work on a great add-on.

I see you're still refining it and I don't doubt that there's going to be work involved in keeping the mod up-to-date with new content patches, so I just wanted to say thank you for the hard work on this.

When inspecting a character, the left frame shows items equipped with gem and enchant passes/fails.

With items that lack an enchant you have in red under the item type "Enhanceme...".

Prehaps you could change the text or allow hovering over the text to read it in full.
