Tidy Plates: Threat Plates - Version 8.6

About:
Tidy Plates: Threat Plates (TPTP for short) is a addon for customizing your nameplates. It offers a high amount of customization and tweaks to how your nameplates react and look. It also offers some unique features that are not available with any other nameplate addon. I've spent a considerable amount of time improving this addon and any comments or concerns about this addon are appreciated. I'm always looking for ways to improve this addon.

Starting with version 8.6.0, TPTP now is a standalone addon that no longer requires TidyPlates. Please enable only one of these two nameplate addons, otherwise two overlapping nameplates will be shown for units.
Features:
  • SharedMedia support and many, many, options for name, health, level, and spell text. As well as all of the standard nameplate features such as castbar and icon, elite icons / textures, skull icons / textures, raid marks, and healthbar coloring/alpha/scale.
  • Ace3 profiling.
  • Low memory footprint.
  • Threat system management.
  • Automatic talent detection and role assigning for an easy out of the box setup.
  • Customizable widgets.
  • Customizable totem nameplates.
  • Customizable nameplates for extra customization for specifically named units.
Commands:
  • /tptp - Displays options.
  • /tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other.
  • /tptpdps - Toggles DPS/Healing threat plates.
  • /tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates.
  • /tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping.
  • /tptpverbose - Toggles addon feedback text.
Additional Information:
A considerable amount of information about options and its internal priorities are not gone into details. Most options that are enable or disable based will toggle off options that are no longer changeable once enabled or disabled. If you have any questions about options and what they do, feel free to leave a comment or PM me here for more information.

dbm right now simply does basic and more limited version of it if user isn't using kui, but if they are using kui it just passes it on to KUI to handle. you can look at DBM-Nameplates to see what's going on.

If you add proper support then I can simply update DBM to pass request to threat plates.

This is still used and quite helpful on a LOT of fights (most notable this tier is showing what mobs have bone armor on Desolate Host

You will note that DBM still supports friendly nameplate auras while Bigwigs version of it stripped that out. My thought on this was that world bosses have no restrictions and you just never know.
I started to working on supporting this feature now. Is there any easy way to test it (like a button for showing test icons like there is for other DMB UI elements)? Going into LFR to test it is to really fun

Edit: Ah, found it: /run DBM.Nameplate:Show(true, UnitGUID("target"), 227723)

Ok, that sounds interesting. I'll have a look at it.

What got the feature removed was exorsus using nameplates to calculate player positions. Because you get position of any namplate on screen, and because friendly nameplates existed, exorsus created tools that allows them to write a HUD using nameplates even though blizzard went out of their way to kill huds by gutting UnitPosition. It was pretty complex too and even enabled them to use radars again because you can stll use spells to check ranges, so checking ranges AND nameplates combined let you approximate unit positions without UnitPosition(). The end result is, now blizzard gutted nameplates too. Blizzard wasn't mad at bigwigs and DBM for what they did, and would have left nameplates alone if Exorsus hadn't tried to get clever and use them to bring back a feature blizzard intentionally removed.
I did not know that. There were some requests to implement these features (anchoring DMB/BW stuff) some time ago, but before I had the time to look into it, Blizzard removed the possibility . Still, interesting to know what was possible.

I still think Blizzard should have found another solution than to disable all nameplate addons in raid environments for friendly units. But it was the easiest solution, I guess.

Yeah, I just think it was the easiest solution for them for the problem (that boss mods used nameplates for highlighting certain things).
When I originally created Threat Plates back when I was breaking world firsts in Ulduar, one of my biggest features was custom nameplates.

Really made visibility for special mobs amazing.

Miss having the time to really enjoy my mod.

I have headline view enabled and "force nameplate over target" this would be helpful in a dung as healer to clearly find my target party member and move toward them. Unfortunately, these settings stop working when I join a dungeon and the only thing that will show up above party member's heads are these really thin blue health bars which look nothing like the ones I have set up normally. Headline view also stops working for friendly players in a dung. This only seems to happen in a dungeon as I can see my regular set up both in the regular world and in bgs. Any idea how to fix this?
Well, that's a change Blizzard introduced with 7.2. You cannot use custom nameplates anymore for friendly units in dungeons and raids. Blizzard did that to prevent some use in raids that they didn't like (DBM, for instance, used nameplates to anchor debuffs and arrows on players that had to move).

There's nothing I can do about that. It does not work, to my knowledge, for any other nameplate addon either.

Threat plates stop working for my party members in a dungeon and the nameplates I have set up are replaced by thin blue bars. The nameplates still work for mobs it is just the ones over party members heads that get changed. I am unsure why this is happening and have tried disabling all other mobs.

My other request is resource bars, is it possible to get Mana/Rage etc to show on a name plates? ELVUI seems to manage it but no one else does. It would be useful in general but especially on fights like Trilliax. I did found a very old google thread where someone had copied/adjusted the threat widget to show a % value but the guy never posted the code.

please keep up the good work, Im very grateful for all your hard work.
The new beta 8.4.0-Beta2 now contains two new features: a resource widget and and options to set differentent values for color, scaling and opacity for off-tanked mobs (similar to the tanked widget you mentioned).

Excellent, thanks very much. I would love to get back to this version but the new Tanked widget is just so hopeful, especially on Mythic+ with things like Skittish, that I have to keep it running for now.

Hi knowntobeme, Tidy Plates: Threat is a fork of Tidy Plates: Threat Plates, back from when it wasn't really developed any more. I will have a look at the Tanked widget. Didn't use it myself until now.

A resource bar seems possible. I will add it to the feature list. I'm currently working on 8.4, so it will probably take some time.
