Tidy Plates: Threat Plates

About:
Tidy Plates: Threat Plates (TPTP for short) is a theme for use with Tidy Plates with patch 5.0.4 or later WoW client. It offers a high amount of customization and tweaks to how your nameplates react and look. It also offers some unique features that are not available with any other nameplate addon. I've spent a considerable amount of time improving this addon and any comments or concerns about this addon are appreciated. I'm always looking for ways to improve this addon.
Features:
  • SharedMedia support and many, many, options for name, health, level, and spell text. As well as all of the standard nameplate features such as castbar and icon, elite icons / textures, skull icons / textures, raid marks, and healthbar coloring/alpha/scale.
  • Ace3 profiling.
  • Low memory footprint.
  • Threat system management.
  • Automatic talent detection and role assigning for an easy out of the box setup.
  • Customizable widgets.
  • Customizable totem nameplates.
  • Customizable nameplates for extra customization for specifically named units.
Commands:
  • /tptp - Displays options.
  • /tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other.
  • /tptpdps - Toggles DPS/Healing threat plates.
  • /tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates.
  • /tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping.
  • /tptpverbose - Toggles addon feedback text.
Additional Information:
A considerable amount of information about options and its internal priorities are not gone into details. Most options that are enable or disable based will toggle off options that are no longer changeable once enabled or disabled. If you have any questions about options and what they do, feel free to leave a comment or PM me here for more information.
TPTP In Action

------------------------------------------------------
8.006-Alpha (works with TidyPlates 6.18.Beta20)
------------------------------------------------------
  • Fixed a bug where certain nameplate widgets were not updated after changes in the options dialog (TidyPlates removed ReloadTheme() function)
  • Added a config option to set the alpha level of headline view nameplates (see About pane in the options dialog)
  • Fixed a nil error with healer tracker widget because of missing auras (introduced with 8.005-Alpha)
  • Known issues:
    • Localization not updated except en and de, although no errors should occur
    • Configuring specs could be done completely in TidyPlates - dialog in ThreadPlates in no longer necessary
    • Reload UI necessary for certain options in the options

------------------------------------------------------
8.005-Alpha (works with TidyPlates 6.18.Beta20)
------------------------------------------------------
  • Fixed a bug with the target aura widgets's strata (was sometimes shown behind other nameplates/auras) - rather a nasty fix for the time being (as TidyPlates layering is reworked currently)
  • Known issues:
    • Localization not updated except en and de, although no errors should occur
    • Configuring specs could be done completely in TidyPlates - dialog in ThreadPlates in no longer necessary
    • Reload UI necessary for certain options in the options

------------------------------------------------------
8.004-Alpha (works with TidyPlates 6.18.Beta20)
------------------------------------------------------
  • Implemented a new alpha feature (see About dialog): Headline View (Text-Only) as known from TidyPlates - TidyPlatesHub must be enabled for this to work; configure it via TidyPlatesHub profiles
  • Added four missing PVP totems (no totems should be missing now) and switched to different colors for totem types (e.g. PvP, Talents, ...)
  • Added transparent class icon for Demonhunter and special icons (red glowing border) for totem icons
  • Added an option to disable the cooldown spiral on auras (requires reload UI)
  • Castbar border can now be set to Default or Thin (like healthbar border)
  • Known issues:
    • Localization not updated except en and de, although no errors should occur
    • Configuring specs could be done completely in TidyPlates - dialog in ThreadPlates in no longer necessary
    • Reload UI necessary for certain options in the options

------------------------------------------------------
8.003-Alpha (works with TidyPlates 6.18.Beta11)
------------------------------------------------------
  • Fixed error with reload UI and AuraWidget
  • Fixed problem with TidyPlatesHub overwritting AuraWidget settings of ThreatPlates
  • Known issues:
    • Changing aura style needs a reload UI to work (was so before)
    • Localization not updated except en and de
    • Styles for icons (special/transparent) are not working (no graphics guru :})

------------------------------------------------------
8.002-Alpha
------------------------------------------------------
  • Added demonhunter class (icons, tank tag)
  • Updated shaman totem list (icons and IDs) and rogue spell Anticipation
  • Fixed HP bar colouring with NPCs (probably still buggy)
  • Adjusted dual spec to new model in Legion
  • Changed spec option dialog to show actual spec names for configuration
  • Known issues:
    • Localization not updated except en and de
    • Styles for icons (special/transparent) are not working (no graphics guru :})

My main spec is DPS and my off spec is Tank. It used to be the reverse and when I was tanking the nameplates would be smaller on scale for high threat values and then get larger for lower threat values.

Under the dual spec settings I have them set as P: DPS, S: Tank.

When I look under the DPS Threat Levels tab, it has it the way I want it for DPS, small scale level for low threat and large scale for high threat. Under the Tank Threat Levels tab it has the reverse with large scale for low threat and small scale for high threat. This is how I want it but it doesn't seem to be working. When tanking in a dungeon, the nameplates take the role of DPS.

I went to the Threat Options tab and saw that it asks me to select the roll that I am currently fulfilling and it has it set as DPS (obviously this here is the problem). I have Warrior Stances enabled but it never switches to the Tanking role so that I can fix this issue.

How can I get it to recognize what role (Tank or DPS) I am filling? Or do I have to change the roll each time manually?

Also I have the Tidy Plates themes set to P: Threat Plates, S: Threat Plates

Note:
P: = Primary
S: = Secondary

I play with my camera distance at maximum, with the /console cameradistancemaxfactor 4 command, and its causing me some issues with the nameplates. At that camera distance, the nameplates cover up practically all of the npc's/player's model. This is extremely annoying when I'm trying to right click to start auto attack and its hard to find a bit of the model sticking out, especially since in most situations the nameplate positions and/or camera angle is moving around.

First of all, I'm not missing some setting to help me with this am I.
If not, would it be possible to add a feature that allows you to start auto attack by right clicking the nameplate itself, or make a setting that offsets the nameplate itself from the npc model. Both would be cool, but either one would fix my issue.

I'll see if I can rewrite the Widget and pass it over to danltiger.

Looking at it again, danltiger left a large portion of the widget code from the previous version out. I'm assuming he's planning to rewrite it using the 'unit.target' value.

Yeah, it looks like he fixed it last night/this morning. Thanks!

Re: Debuff

With the debuff widget, mousing over a nameplate, or selecting it as a target (via click or tab works) will update the buff timers on that plate via the UnitAura() API function. So, if you tab to a mob and apply lacerate, it should appear on that plate until it expires. One catch; if the plate goes offscreen, Tidy Plates loses the tracking ID. So you'll have to target the mob or mouseover the plate to reaquire the data.

Incorporated Stance/Shapeshift/Aura/Presence Monitoring (Warr/Druid/Paladin/DK only options) *If turned on this ignores spec settings and only looks for stances/shapeshifts/etc.*
Outstanding. Thanks for making this addon better and better.

Nope sorry =/

In order for the addon to know what debuffs there are on something you have to target / mouseover the nameplate to gain the UnitGUID information.

Somewhere along the line, my "Non-target Alpha" setting quit working. I'm using the latest version of Tidy Plates: Threat Plates Beta and Tidy Plates Beta available here on wowinterface as of writing this.

I have the option selected to set my non-target alpha to -100%, however in an aoe group all mobs are at 100% alpha including my target. I've played with the setting and I can't seem to get it to do anything to change the alpha. This used to work perfectly several versions ago, but at some point it has stopped working and I'm not sure which version of Threat Plates Beta broke it

Currently, I have two functions for triggering updates, available to theme authors:
  • TidyPlates:Update()
  • TidyPlates:ForceUpdate()

In the lastest release, using the :Update() function will update all user-controlled indicators, regardless of any (or none) changes in the unit's properties.

In this way, Threat Plates COULD register the event for raid icon changes, and call for a complete update. (I realize that adds some work for you, Kat, but I'm trying to minimize the CPU impact of the core, while still providing the tools for you to achieve your goals)

A possible extension to the current system is adding two new functions, RequestWidgetUpdate and RequestDelegateUpdate.
  • RequestWidgetUpdate will fire an update to all visible nameplates widgets
  • RequestDelegateUpdate will fire an update to all visible nameplates indicators (the functions that control those indicators are called 'Delegate functions' since Tidy Plates delegates control over those indicators to the theme, if those functions are defined)

This will allow a theme to request updates to narrower groups of frames, to reduce CPU load.

Another alternative is to ask theme authors to register specific unit changes to the delegate functions, but that just adds a ton of work for theme authors, and would break backward compatibility with many themes.
I'll see how it holds up in-game. That particular event isn't fired very often.
