Threat Plates - Version 8.7

Battle for Azeroth Beta:
You can find a working version of Threat Plates for BfA Beta here.

About:
Threat Plates (TPTP for short) is a addon for customizing your nameplates. It offers a high amount of customization and tweaks to how your nameplates react and look. It also offers some unique features that are not available with any other nameplate addon. I've spent a considerable amount of time improving this addon and any comments or concerns about this addon are appreciated. I'm always looking for ways to improve this addon.

Starting with version 8.6.0, Threat Plates now is a standalone addon that no longer requires TidyPlates. Please enable only one of these two nameplate addons, otherwise two overlapping nameplates will be shown for units.
Features:
  • SharedMedia support and many, many, options for name, health, level, and spell text. As well as all of the standard nameplate features such as castbar and icon, elite icons / textures, skull icons / textures, raid marks, and healthbar coloring/alpha/scale.
  • Ace3 profiling.
  • Low memory footprint.
  • Threat system management.
  • Automatic talent detection and role assigning for an easy out of the box setup.
  • Customizable widgets.
  • Customizable totem nameplates.
  • Customizable nameplates for extra customization for specifically named units.
Commands:
  • /tptp - Displays options.
  • /tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other.
  • /tptpdps - Toggles DPS/Healing threat plates.
  • /tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates.
  • /tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping.
  • /tptpverbose - Toggles addon feedback text.
Additional Information:
A considerable amount of information about options and its internal priorities are not gone into details. Most options that are enable or disable based will toggle off options that are no longer changeable once enabled or disabled. If you have any questions about options and what they do, feel free to leave a comment or PM me here for more information.

  • Added an option to configure the clickable area for nameplates.
  • Added options to adjust how Threat Plates are scaled (based on UI scale, ignoring UI scale or pixel-perfect), see General - Blizzard Settings.
  • Added options to the absorb display to always show the total absorb even if health is at maximum [Comment #140, Ticket #140].
  • Added a new texture for the striped absorb overlay and added an option to adjust its color.
  • Added options to show or hide nameplates automatically in combat or in instances, see General - Automation [Comment #602].
  • Added configuration options for several nameplate configuration variables (CVars), see General - Blizzard Settings.
  • Added an option to enable class icons for friendly and hostile units separately [Comment #143].
  • Added an option to color the name of the target unit's nameplate with the same color as the healthbar. Also, moved this option to Widgets - Target Highlight [Comment #733].
  • If a unit is targeted, situational settings for scale and transparency (mouseover, casting, marked) no longer have priority over the respective target settings [Comment #752].
  • Changed the castbar options so that the colors for interruptible and non-interruptible casts can be selected independently from each other [Comment #570].
  • Removed the restriction that the threat system configuration can only be changed outside of arenas and battlegrounds [E-Mail].
  • Optimized and improved integration of TidyPlates code into Threat Plates.
  • Optimized how nameplates are handled after creation and deletion. Also, improved performance of handling mouseover events for nameplates and custom nameplates.
  • Adjusted default positioning of aura widget to compensate for internal frame layout changes.
  • Fixed the migration of totem settings from versions before 8.7.0.
  • Fixed a bug with totem nameplates not being shown if healthbar should be hidden, but icon should be shown.
  • Fixed a bug with castbar not properly hidden when only enabled for healthbar or headline view [Issue #150].
  • Fixed a Lua error with scaling and transparency on nameplates that had no unit assigned yet.
  • Fixed localization of default fonts for Korean (koKR), Simplified Chinese (zhCN), Traditional Chinese (zhTW), and Russian (ruRU). Default fonts are automatically adjusted so that text in the local alphabet is displayed properly [Issue #171]
  • Added localization strings for metric prefixes k (kilo) and m (million) (used for health points text).
  • Updated localization for deDE (German), zhTW (Traditional Chinese, thanks to gaspy10).

Great addon. A couple notes:

- I'm using Threat Plates 5.1.4 and Tidy Plates 6.0.7 (r103)
- When logging in or reloadui I get this error

1x TidyPlates_ThreatPlates-5.1.4\Widgets\Widgets.lua:7: attempt to call method 'EnableAuraWatcher' (a nil value)

But even with the error, it still seems usable. However I did notice that if I did not have Buggrabber and Bugsack to catch the bugs, Threat Plates did not load properly. I had to have the Bug catching addons running in order to use Threat Plates.

- I'm a little bit confused about something. In the screenshots in seems to show Threat Plates's config using the Blizzard Interface > Addons config window. But with the version I downloaded, when I goto Interface > Addons > Tidy Plates: Threat Plates, it tells me to open the separate dedicated config window. I don't really understand why addon authors choose to take the time to make their own dedicated configuration windows when Blizzard has already provided one for them to use. Does the Blizzard config window just not as configurable or what? It's nice to keep it all in one plate imo.

- I use Threat Plates for tanking and I love it. I like how the health bars change color from green > yellow > red. However, I hardly ever see Yellow bars. Typically in your average heroic dungeon, the bar goes from Green > Yellow and then > Red very quickly. It would be nice if it turned yellow much sooner so that I can pick it up before threat is completely lost... How does Threat Plates decide when to change the threat color? Does it constantly scan the party/raid for everyone's threat amounts and use those numbers to determine when to change colors? It would be nice if there was some sort of "threshold" that I could adjust as to when the plates change color.

- Also on a related note, you know how the default Blizz interface will say the words "Losing Threat" above a mobs head when you are loosing threat? It seems like it will say "Losing Threat" while the bar is green and then goto yellow and then very quickly go red. It seems like perhaps the bar should change to yellow at the exact same time as the interface says "Loosing Threat". That would be a nice indicator for when to change colors.

May be due to running Tidy Plates instead of Tidy Plates Beta. If you notice, the main page says "this addon for Tidy Plates Beta."

Threat is measured by Blizzard. Threat meters like Omen and Skada get their data from Blizzard's measurement.

The mobs are supposed to have 100% threat on the tank. If the healer or DPS get equal threat, they have 100% also.

If a party member has less than 100% threat, the tank sees "green"
If a party member has 100-109% threat, the tank sees "yellow"
If a party member has more than 110% threat, the tank sees "red"

The mob leaves the tank when someone is more than 110% of the tank's threat.

You only see yellow "blink" before red because (most of the time) threat changes beyond that 10% threshold very quickly.

To some degree this is true, however if you're tanking you're never approaching someone else's threat, they are approaching yours. So you'll never actually see the "yellow" indicator unless it's another tank that you're pulling off of. It's either you have threat or you don't with the blizzard system if you're tanking.

There is a Threat Line Widget you can enable that will give you more in depth threat and how much of a lead you have over players.

2 questions

Hello,

I have 2 questions:

1. Since the last big version update, non-target mobs have less opacity/alpha than the targeted mob. How can I change it so opacity will be only according to threat, regardless of whom I target?

2. There is an option of custom color of castbar. However, shielded (uninterruptable) cast has the same pattern and color, no matter what I choose. It looks like a diagonal pattern of red and brown.
How should I modify it properly?

Thanks!

1. Nameplate Settings > Alpha > Blizzard Non-Target Fade

2. Castbar coloring was fixed a few versions ago not sure if you're using the latest version.

Hey there. Really loving this extension of Tidy Plates. Really great addon, enjoying it.

Here's the AddOn Spotlight featuring Threat Plates (from a DPS perspective): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvoRPIXd8dU

will you be adding updated custom nameplates, for example lava parasites, any time soon?

I wasn't planning to, but you can do it yourself very easily!

Having some trouble configing this...

I am looking to set this up for PvP Arena... are any of the default "skins" good for pvp? The plates just look like simple bars to me no matter what I do?

Hi,

Thanks for the answer on (1).
Regarding (2), I still don't know how to fix the uninterruptable castbar pattern issue. I'm using version 5.1.7 and uninterruptable castbar looks the same (some diagonal pattern), regardless the color and pattern I set. Normal cast pattern and color work fine though.
Any idea?

Thanks!

Before you use to be able to only see the debuffs on whoever you are targeting. Now you see it on everyone you target. How do I change this so I only see the debuff on who I target?
