DocsUI Biting for Dummies
Version: r6
by: dr_AllCOM3 [More]

(Works in every language)

Blood-Queen Lana'thel addon.
Very easy to use and a comfortable graphical user interface.
Only one person has to use the addon, no forcing the raid to install and update this addon!

This is how you use the addon:
  • Open with /b or /bfd.
  • Press fill list to check your raid.
  • Press enable to make it automatically assign players their targets infight.
Now your're good to go until you log out or reload your interface.
Click on a name to change it's details.
Certain boss mods can mess with the raid icons!

You can change the player order by clicking on the names.
I've based the standard order on the WowMeterOnline.com class ranking for BQL, so the best classes get bitten first.

Installation: Unpack into your \World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\ folder. Done!
Config ingame under Interface->Addons or with /b or /bfd.

Please report any errors, thanks!

Probably a silly question, how do you move people between tanks/healers/dps groups?

You don't atm, but the numbers work. Just scan while you're buffing for BQL.

Could you explain how it works exactly? YouTube video would be perfect but of course that's a bit too much to ask, so maybe just a written report on how it functions?

Like, does it whisper the people who they need to bite? "Vampires get a target and symbol automatically. That's the target they have to bite." What I understand from this is that it assigns Raid Target Icons for each person that will get bitten (and then it tells the vampire either in raid chat or whisper that "Bite SkilledHunter {skull}").

Since boss mods use raid icons too, i.g. Swarming Shadows (1 mark) and Pact of the Darkfallen (3 marks), what happens when there are 8 vampires with 8 people to bite and the boss mod* marks different people than this addon? Everyone should be able to find someone based on the name they've given (like they do now), but will the marks actually just create confusion because two different mods will try to mark different people with the same mark?

Also how does it handle people (vampire or bite target) dying / then getting ressed?

Just some random thoughts about things you can probably make clear for me, since I can't test or download it yet.

* DBM, DXE or BigWigs

You got it exactly right. That's how the addon works. Quite simple, isn't it?
Edit: I've updated the addon description here a little bit to to make it perfectly clear.

Other addons using raid icons can and will interfere with my addon. It won't break functionality, you just have to go by the name alone. I use DXE and it doesn't use raid icons at BQL. They're quite useless there anyway. Maybe you should write the author of your boss addon and ask him/her to remove that feature.

You will be a possible target if your're alive and not a vampire. Dying or rezzing shouldn't matter at all, my approach is very dynamic.

I think every boss mod includes the option to toggle off raid icons, so it's just a matter of asking raid leader / assistants to not use them in the fight, I guess

When exactly does it tell you to bite someone? When you turn into a vampire, 10 seconds before the vampire gets Frenzied Bloodthirst or when he gets Frenzied Bloodthirst? (I think my guild wants to bite people as soon as they get the debuff, so knowing your target only when you have 10 seconds to bite would be too late.)

Thank you for the answers so far

This. You have plenty of time to plan your bite.

Edit:
Todays 10 man ICC group from my guild successfully used the Biting for Dummies. I didn't explain anything, they were in the same boat as you out there.
Tomorrow I'll update the addon slightly. The functionality will stay the same, but it will be even more comfortable!

A couple things.

1# it would be nice, when clicking a person to change it's priority, to be able to change it's category too, yesterday i tried it out and putted me one the dps group.. and I was the MT.

On itself it isn't much of an issue because if i'm in the dps gorup but very low in priority i won't be bitten anyway, but here comes my second suggestion

2#it would be rather useful to separate the "dps group" in two subgroup: ranged dps and melee dps and instead of an overall priority (bite whoever have higher priority, there were a more dept analys of who should bite who.

In particular, i personally think what would work "best" would be

suppose 8 ranged and 8 melee for simplicity sake

ranged are sorted from 1A to 8A
melee are sorted from 1B to 8B
healer are sorted separately
tank are sorted separately

Bite priority:
"search who's next in priority among class A and B, if two player have the same priority number and still are not bite, assign the bite to the one with the same class as you (vampire)."

this would guarantee that except for the very first bite ( where a ranged would bite a melee or a melee a ranged) every subsequent bite would be from ranged to ranged or from melee to melee, thus minimizing movement needed.

Another thing, maybe an oversight, but if a vampire die and it's ressed, it isn't put back on the "queue".
Currently,. if the priority 1 is bitten, then die, if it's ressed it's still considered bitten by the addon, or whatever else happened i don't know, but i'm 100% positive that our first priority died, got ressed, but i whispered no one at subsequent bites ( and yes there were vampires)

#3 a possible feature that could come handy.
I would like another button that enable/disable, namely one that toggle whispering those who have to be bitten.
That because the bite itself do damage, so "for dummies" it would general be nice to know "i'm going to take that damage", much like the penetrating cold whisper.

button one: enable/disable whispering vampires
button two: enable/disable whispering "victims"

Also, i actually installed the addon only for the automatic marking, the whisper itself didn't interest me a lot( albeit it was still very useful to me as a remind of what i had to say in vent at each bite :P), so a third one that enable markings without the whisper itself might be welcomed to someone, i guess.

Another possible feature that someone might find useful, a "reverse" button.
That basically "reverse" the functionality: it marks the "vampires" and whisper the "victims" "--> VAMPIRENAME, SYMBOL SYMBOL SYMBOL.
That would be used by those guilds that prefer having the "victims" move to the vampire in order to maximize the vampire dps.

Hello dr_AllCOM3,

thanks for this addon, helps coordinating an undistinguished raid quite a lot.

Unfortunately we encountered some problems.
Sometimes the addon picks the wrong players.
That means player x got the essence but player y gets instructions whom to bite next.
Furthermore sometimes players with high priority are simply skipped,
that means the first vampire is assigned to bite the player prioritized as #2 or even below.

Nonetheless great addon, thanks again.

I didn't implement a category change yet. The category is purely cosmetic, the number is the important thing.
Dividing the damage dealers into two groups could be beneficial.
It could be good to warn new victims.

Which version did you use? r2 had those problems.

Status report:
My raid leader used the addon today while I was present and it worked perfectly. He used DXE and was the only one promoted, so there were no raid icon issues.
If you want a working BQL addon, go and grab this one .

Hey! thx for the nice addon ! very usefull =)

Just a thing : when i first scan my raid to get the list of biting potential victims, i can define the order w/o any issue.

But when i try to change the order by reopening the GUI (/b), only 3 names show up. I have to press "fill list" to get the full list and reorder again.

Another typo : local version is still r3 (it should be r4 ?)

Had an odd bug tonight, for some reason the RL's whispers didn't come through for the first few bites. He saw the sends, but I definitely didn't get them. A round or two later I started getting them again.

It'd also be nice to either have an option to customize the message sent, or perhaps include the biters name. Reason being, chatter will highlight any message with your name in it, and optionally send it to a raid warning or somewhere more visible than the chat window.

A few people also remarked it might be worthwhile to tell the bitee's that they're 'next' (apparently getting a symbol on their head isn't obvious enough )

Tell me if you can reproduce that.
I forgot to change the internal version number .

That must have been his fault.
Latest version includes victim whispers.

I've made some changes, based on various replies.
You can now change the role of a player and there's a message if an inspect fails.
The bug with missing players was only a display issue. You can noch simply refresh the display, just in case.
Prefering nearby players is off by default. It's only useful if everyone play at an equal level. In most cases you want the best players to be bitten first.
It's possible to show the messages in the raid chat now, so you can yell at bad players .
