Chitchat (Answering Machine)

Version: 2.0
by: Ryknzu [More]

Chitchat is an addon that works as a in-game answering machine. You can choose when Chitchat will begin recording incoming whispers. While recording choose how Chitchat will notify you of a whisper. All incoming whispers and outgoing whispers are saved locally and can be viewed at anytime through an easy to use interface. Have a fully customized experience with many easy to understand options.

Features include:

  • Whenever you enter the world, enter/leave an instance, respawn at a graveyard or after any loading screen you will be notified of any unread whispers.
  • Automatically start recording during combat, while in town/inn, when afk, dnd or all the time.
  • All new whispers including the date, sender, and time are recorded..
  • Whispers are saved across multiple sessions and exist until deleted.
  • Tracks date and time of each whisper you receive.
  • All saved whispers are accessible on any character.
  • An option to hide incoming whispers while recording.
  • Option to set favorites to always have the log at the top.
  • Option to log General, Trade, Guild or Guild Officer channels.
  • Set an auto-respond message while recording.
  • Get those nasty CAPSLOCK messages auto-corrected into something more readable.
  • Full support for Data Broker.

Example uses include:
  • Never miss a whisper from a guild member or friend again from being logged out due to inactivity!
  • You can login on any character and read that long whisper you received right as you logout a few minutes ago!
  • Never miss anything said in trade, view trade chat history at any time.

Lately I've been unable to read new whispers, because the list with names suddenly folds out upwards and off the edge of the screen. And the question from my previous post still stands as well - I'd really like to clean up the list a bit.

Hey, I've got a question regarding saved convos and combining lua files.. I'm playing WoW on up to 3 different comps, and sometimes when I try to read back a certain convo I realise that it was stored on the laptop while I'm playing on the pc at that moment. So I figured I'd copy&paste the convos from one file to another, but looking at it I see so much stuff I don't understand that I'm afraid I'll screw up the code (and as such the convos) if I try to mess with it.

So, do you know how I can combine all the convos? Not necessarily in a lua file.. perhaps it's possible to have them exported to a .txt file in a neat chat format? Would be nice to be able to save memorable or important convos this way, reminds me of way back when I still used MSN.

There's one thing I noticed that confused me a bit, as I'm not sure if it's an error or not. Initially, RealID whispers weren't recognised and labelled as coming from Unknown. Now it does (yay!), but the other day while I was checking the list of old whispers, I suddenly saw a conversation with RealID friend A that I didn't recall having. It turned out to have been with RealID friend B, but was incorrectly labelled.
Im glad, you like it . I have noticed that bug myself too, not quite sure the cause of it but I'll be looking into it further before cataclysm launch. Don't wanna miss any whispers from falling asleep at keyboard

Ah, this is great. I headed to the comment section to ask about this feature, as it didn't become clear from the addon info on the 'front page'. Perhaps you could edit that bit of text for clarity to new users (also because it still speaks of afk/dnd instead of away/busy).

I'm going to try out this addon now, it sounds really helpful.

This (v1.6.0) has developed some bugs when using in WoW 4.0.1 live.

In a raid:

Code:
["message"] = "Chitchat-1.6.0\\Chitchat.lua:599: bad argument #2 to 'format' (string expected, got nil)\nChitchat-1.6.0\\Chitchat.lua:599: in function `Chitchat_RecordWhisper'\nChitchat-1.6.0\\Chitchat.lua:468: in function `filterFunc'\nChatter-1.0\\Modules\\Highlight.lua:195: in function `?'\nCallbackHandler-1.0-6:147: in function <...onLoader\\CallbackHandler-1.0\\CallbackHandler-1.0.lua:147>\n<string>:\"safecall Dispatcher[16]\":4: in function <[string \"safecall Dispatcher[16]\"]:4>\n<in C code>: ?\n<string>:\"safecall Dispatcher[16]\":13: in function `?'\nCallbackHandler-1.0-6:92: in function `Fire'\nAceEvent-3.0-3 (Ace3):120: in function `OnEvent'\nStopAddonMessage-r93\\core.lua:282: in function <Interface\\AddOns\\StopAddonMessage\\core.lua:211>\n(tail call): ?:\n\n  ---",
            ["type"] = "error",
            ["session"] = 303,
            ["counter"] = 1,
        }, -- [999]
        {
            ["message"] = "Error: Original call failed after running hooks for: ChatFrame_OnEvent :\nChitchat-1.6.0\\Chitchat.lua:599: bad argument #2 to 'format' (string expected, got nil)(tail call): ?\n<string>:\"*:OnEvent\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnEvent\"]:1>\n:\nStubby-275\\Stubby.lua:381: in function <Interface\\AddOns\\Stubby\\Stubby.lua:325>\n(tail call): ?:\n<string>:\"*:OnEvent\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnEvent\"]:1>\n\n ---",
            ["type"] = "error",
            ["session"] = 303,
            ["counter"] = 1,
        }, -- [1000]
Same error messages occurred in a raid last week as well (but with different other addons listed in them). None of the other addons/libraries listed in those messages have issues in WoW 4.0.1. And ChitChat didn't have issues before the WoW patch either.

Chitchat v1.5.9, Combat Dnd v1.1.1, USEnglish client/server, WoW 3.3.3 live. Have Chitchat set to not display any message when DND or AFK, as don't want it to override the message I have set in CombatDnd. The rest of Chitchat's options remain at their default.

When entering combat with both mods active, CombatDnd sets the character properly to DND. But one second later and still in combat, the DND status is improperly removed for some reason.

Disable Chitchat, try it again and CombatDnd properly retains the DND status on the character until combat is over. As it use to before I started testing Chitchat.

So something in this mod isn't playing nicely with that mod's auto-combat-DND ability. Hope a resolution can be found.
Thanks for your interest. I have an idea why this might be occurring I'll look into it further and get a patch out as soon as possible.
