PlateBuffs  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.11.0
by: Cyprias, acapela
4.1 update Acapela (aloft's developer) and Archarodim (Healers have to die) assisted in getting PlateBuffs working for 4.1, please send your thanks to them.

PlateBuffs (PB) displays people's buffs above their nameplates.

FAQ:
Q) Will PlateBuffs work on mobs?
A) Yes. but since mobs can share the same name you'll need to target or mouseover the nameplate so PlateBuffs can determine which nameplate belongs to what mob. Once that nameplate disappears from the screen and reappears you'll need to mouseover/target again.
Q) What's the question mark for?
A) It can mean 2 things. 1) We don't know what mob that nameplate belongs to, 2) We don't know what spells are on that mob/player. In both cases you need to target/mouseover the nameplate.
Q) Will PB work with non default nameplates?
A) PB should work with Tidy Plates, Aloft, dNameplates and caelNameplates. PB may or may not work with other nameplate addons.
Q) Can I have specific buff options?
A) Yes. Open PlateBuff's options (/pb) and go to the Specific Spells menu. In there you can add spells and choose always/mine/never show, icon size and cooldown text size. Some spells are added by default to have large icons.
Q) Why do spells blink?
A) Spells will blink if there's less then 20% of the time remaining.
Q) Can you add a clockwise cooldown overlay to the spell icons?
A) Unfortunately the clock cooldown doesn't work well on frames that are constantly moving around the screen. It tends to disappear while the frame's moving and only appear when the icon's perfectly still. So as soon as you move, they move or your camera moves (including breathing up and down motion) the overlay disappears. Sorry.
Q) What do all these spells in the Specific Spells list do?
A) If you're unfamiliar on what spells do what effects, enable the Add Spell Description option on the main screen. That will add a spell icon and spell description to each of the spells. When enabled, PlateBuffs' memory usage will go up around 2MB (memory usage only impacts login/load time, not FPS).
Q) How do I turn off all buffs except those on my Specific Spells list?
A) In PlateBuffs' options, set both "Show Buffs" and "Show Debuffs" to none.

What I experienced at first was that my own icons were super huge until I turned that option off. But also keep in mind there is a specific spell list, and many of those spells are set to have extra-large icons. This may include some of your own spells. Could that be the issue?

Pointing me in the direction code-wise is fine too.

Also, the icons start off bigger than I set, and will eventually get back to the size I want. Sort of annoying because they start off HUGE. Also, sometimes they position changes about an inch upwards. Wouldn't be a huge problem except it then clips into the cast bar. All seemingly at random. Using it with tidyplates:threat plates, if it makes a difference.
1.11.1beta has been uploaded to Curse which should show the overlay if the text is disabled. I don't really play anymore so I can't comment on the large icon issues.

Garbage creation is when a object is created in memory then the reference to that object is lost. So that object is still in memory but the plugin has no way of accessing it.

With the amount of ram people have, garbage shouldn't be a problem. It just looks bad on the author for having a addon that creates it instead of gracefully deleting it. I'm surprised to hear 25-50% of PB's memory is classified as garbage, I'm usually quite anal about garbage creation. Try going into PlateBuffs options and disable the Add Spell Descriptions checkbox. I know that option is a memory hog.

Alpha/transparency options sounds like a good idea. I'm not active in WoW/addons at the moment but I'll keep it in mind.

Hi Cyprias,

I have been using a few CPU / memory profiles on the mod, and I noticed that it creates a lot of "garbage". I am not a UI author so I do not understand what exactly this means. But as much as 25-50% of the memory used by the mod is classified in this manner.

Not sure if this can be helpful for future improvements.

Love this mod!

p.s. for new features would you consider adding opacity options? I wouldn't mind having my default spells (dots) show up at a lower alpha, and then have oh crap! spells like enemy CC show up fully opaque. Just another way to highlight things instead of by size, maybe?

There's no option at the moment, you can open frames.lua and goto line 208 where it says
Code:
				timeLeft = core:Round(rawTimeLeft, 1)
Set it to
Code:
				timeLeft = core:Round(rawTimeLeft)

Guess the dead silence and no update since the last post means little if any chance of seeing a 2nd bar.

What I want to be able to do is have things like slow debuffs me and friendlies apply on top of the nameplate frame, and then things like HoTs the target has on them below the nameplate frame.

Right now every buff/debuff added to the list are all lumped in together in the top frame, so it isn't the easiest to see everything when there are like 10 things being shown.

The ability to have 2+ separate frames is helpful in breaking up where specific types of buffs/debuffs are shown. Ignore the X/Y movement comment, I was braindead when I wrote that and forgot that function already exists.

Btw this addon Rule them all!
Its working great I think the out of date in the addons list must be the Toc file that needs an update.
