PhanxBuffs  Updated this week!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 7.0.3.3
by: Phanx [More]

Basic replacement for the default buff, debuff, and temporary enchant (weapon buff) frames.

It looks and acts basically like the default buff frames, with a few improvements:

  • Buff and debuff icons are sorted by their remaining duration
  • Text timers are shown only when less than 30 seconds remain on the buff or debuff (configurable)
  • Weapon buff icons can show the spell or item that buffed your weapon, instead of the weapon itself
  • Buff tooltips show the name of the party or raid member who cast the buff on you
  • Buffs or debuffs you never want to see can be hidden (eg. Chill of the Throne)
  • Wrap icons to more than one row, with configurable row lengths
  • Buff and debuff frames are movable
  • Basic configuration options
  • Masque skinning support
Options & Commands

Type “/pbuff” for options, or browse to the PhanxBuffs panel in the standard Interface Options window.

To add a buff/debuff to the ignore list, hold Alt and Shift and right-click its icon.

To add/remove a buff/debuff to/from the ignore list, type “/pbuff buff Awesome Buff” or “/pbuff debuff Scary Debuff”. Buff/debuff names provided with these commands must be properly spelled, capitalized, and punctuated.

Getting Help

Submit a ticket on GitHub. Before reporting a problem, please make sure you are using the latest version of the addon from this page. When reporting a problem, please include a clear description of the problem, detailed steps I can follow to reproduce the problem, whether the problem still happens when all other addons are disabled, the exact text of the related error message if any, and a screenshot if the problem is visual.

If you are requesting a new feature, please be aware that I consider PhanxBuffs to be complete, and will most likely not consider any requests. In particular, I have no plans to change the timer text format, or increase the duration of time for which it is shown; please do not submit new requests about it.

Cancelling Buffs

Due to restrictions Blizzard added in Patch 4.0.1, you cannot right-click to cancel buffs while in combat when using addons that filter or sort the buff display. PhanxBuffs includes a workaround that lets you right-click to cancel buffs out of combat, but you must click twice to remove certain “protected” buffs like shapeshift forms and weapon buffs. By default, PhanxBuffs applies this two-click cancelling method to all buffs to keep things consistent, but if you like, you can enable one-click cancelling for unprotected buffs in the options panel.

When you right-click once, a red square will appear over the buff icon. Right-click again to cancel the buff, or left-click to keep it and hide the red square. You can also right-click on debuffs your character can dispel to cast the appropriate dispel spell on yourself, but as with cancelling buffs, this feature only works out of combat.

If you find yourself needing to cancel buffs quickly while in combat, check out my other addon Cancel My Buffs for a keybind-based solution.

Language Support

Compatible with English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文 game clients.

Translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano (partial), Português, Русский, 한국어, and 繁體中文.

Note that the "Show weapon buff sources" option currently does not work in 简体中文 clients, because the requred translations are missing.

To add or update translations for any locale, enter them on the PhanxBuffs localization page on CurseForge, and then send me a PM here or on CurseForge to let me know that you’ve made changes. If you don’t have a Curse account and don’t want to create one, you can PM me your translations instead. Thanks!

Phanx, this mod is sweet right out of the box. Mods don't need a bloated feature set, they only need to serve their given purpose, and do it well. This one fits the bill perfectly.

There's nothing stopping you from editing your saved variables to produce a 1-column layout, as I already explained to the last guy who left a passive-aggressive comment about my unwillingness to spend my spare time writing and maintaining code for free that I would never personally use. Go write your own addon, if it's "such a pity" that getting what you want requires you to edit one whole number in a text file. I wrote this addon because I didn't like "every other addon", not because I wanted to make another carbon copy of the same thing.

It's a pity you're not willing to include a vertical layout. PhanxBuffs is exactly what i need, beside the layout. Nearly every other addon is supporting this with using rows and columns.

I’ve just posted an update with Phanx’s fix for weapon buff name matching. Right now I’m going through all of her addons I’m maintaining, checking for unreleased changes, and posting updates if needed. Once I’m done with that, I’ll start working on the timer text threshold option in PhanxBuffs.

Version 4.0.3.65
  • Fixed weapon buff tracking for buffs whose tooltip text doesn’t match their spell or item name

Hi Silverdragn,

Phanx is taking some time off, so I’m maintaining her addons for a while. It shouldn’t be too hard to add an option to adjust the maximum remaining time for showing a text timer. I’ll check with Phanx and make sure she doesn’t have any objections before adding one, though. It isn’t really my addon to do as I please with.

Anyone to disable it so that I can always see the text timers? I finally find an addon that will let me move the buff and debuffs where I want but was sad when it show no timers.

You need to disable the Buff Consolidation feature in the Blizzard interface options menu. PhanxBuffs does not support buff consolidation, but also does not include a bunch of extra code to block Blizzard's code from showing the default buff consolidation frame whenever your buffs change, since you can just check a box to turn it off.

As for timers, read the addon description: "Text timers are shown only when less than 30 seconds remain on the buff or debuff".

No minutes timer on the buff icons?

I also seem to get this from time to time...

As you notice it's Blizzards bufficon expander in the background.

Unless you have more than 10 debuffs active on your character while you're adjusting the setting, you won't see any change in what's displayed on the screen, since 10 debuffs per row is the minimum setting.

If you do have more than 10 debuffs active, and can give me a reasonable way to reproduce this condition, please let me know. Otherwise, I can only assume that there is not actually a bug, because I can't see anything wrong in the code.

Finally, if you're inputting a value below 10 by directly editing the saved variables table or running console commands, you should see a difference, but I will not provide any support for that, since it is outside the intended functionality of the addon.

Adagimp — There was a bug with the Debuff Columns option, but not one that should prevent it from functioning. Keep in mind that the minimum number of columns (icons per row) the UI allows you to set is 10; a vertical layout is not planned, or specifically supported, though you could force one by editing the values in the saved variables file (while not logged in).

Also, I'm not sure why you mentioned that you can "adjust the number of rows and columns for the buff" frame, as the UI only provides an option to change the number of columns (icons per row). The number of rows depends on how many buffs or debuffs you have on you. I have no plans to limit the total number of icons shown, though you could do that yourself by adding many common buffs and/or debuffs to your ignore lists. [/b]
I referenced adjusting the row and column settings for the buffs, because the number of rows for buffs seem to adjust to the number of columns. For example, when I increase the number of columns the number of rows also seems to increase. My intuition on first messing with addon was that the number of rows would increase as columns decreased, but that did not seem to be the case.

For the debuffs there appeared to be no such correlation between number of columns and number of rows, the debuffs always displayed in one row.

  • Fixed an issue with some (de)buffs not appearing correctly in combat after using the right-click cancel overlay
  • Fixed an issue with the Debuff Columns setting
  • Switched to per-character storage of (de)buff ignore lists

You should also see a reduction in CPU usage, as I've switched from traditional OnUpdate polling to using the animation system.

For whatever reason the column/row number adjustments for debuffs does not work for me. I can adjust the number of rows and columns for the buff just fine, but for the debuff they always stay on one row. Basically I want to orient the debuffs vertically along a hud, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Version 4.0.1.57 released!
  • Added out-of-combat right-click buff cancel workaround (see description for details)
  • Fixed command-line buff/debuff ignore list management
As a workaround, you can cancel buffs while out of combat by right-clicking on them twice. The first time you right-click, a red overlay will appear on the buff. Right-click again to cancel the buff, or left-click to hide the overlay and keep the buff. The workaround also supports removing weapon buffs, and removing debuffs your character can dispel.
Note that debuff dispelling has not been tested for all classes/specs. If you encounter any problems with this functionality, please let me know.

Read the addon description. It explains the technical reason why my addon can't cancel buffs. I can't recall the last time I needed to click off a buff, so I'm not willing to lose the ability to filter my buffs, to gain the ability to click them off. If that's not a trade-off you're willing to make, then this won't be the addon for you. Blizzard's changes don't allow for any middle ground.

Doh...that's too bad Phanx...your addon is visually superior to Nivbuffs and it has just the features I like....except the right click=remove buffs thing...and that is too bad because even though I know you made this addon for you personal use...the ability to remove your buffs is something paramount for everyone who uses buff display addons.
Is the ONLY drawback of PhanxBuffs aniway so don't feel ofended .I tried to come up with some constructive criticism.
