Balance Power Tracker  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.3.5
by: Copialinex [More]
1.3.5 is BETA, as I don't know for sure the arrow bug is gone, I'd be very grateful if somebody confirmed it either way, thanks!

BalancePowerTracker is an addon designed to provide a highly configurable bar to track Lunar/Solar energy, Eclipse direction and Eclipse buff.
It also can fire wanrnings when you gain Eclipse and provides energy prediction.
It's focused on using the CPU strictly necessary and no more.

PREDICTED ENERGY:
Predicted energy analizes your current cast and adds its energy to your current energy, so BPT predicts where your energy is going to be after you finish your cast, and if you are going to proc Eclipse or not.
You can configure the indicators (bar, text, icons, arrow) of the mod to either display predicted or real info.
Also, you can configure the alerts to fire when you are going to get an Eclipse.
(Author's note: I feel Predicted Energy is the heart of BPT, I think without this option I wouldn't have made this addon, also it has taken up most of the time invested in the addon, however, I understand people value the choice to turn this off. At least, give it a try!)

Provides LibSharedMedia, Masque & MikSBT support:
  • LibSharedMedia: Bar textures, alert sounds, fonts
  • Masque: Eclipse icons skin
  • MikSBT: Fire alerts through MikSBT

FAQ:

Can I disable it out of combat?
You can't disable it out of combat, but you can turn the Alpha Out Of Combar to 0, so it won't bother you (CPU load out of combat is pretty much 0).

The energy seems a little erratic...?
Predicted energy & eclipse are enabled by default, with this enabled, the mod will add the energy of you current cast to the bar, if you only want to change the size & position of the energy bar, I suggest you to uncheck this option.

Is there any way to have the awesome Blizzard art?
Enable default art module, you'll get a bar like Blizzard's with some options (not nearly as many as with the Eclipse bar module).

Green bar:
BPT is unable to access the bar/border texture, check if you have uninstalled it.

Pipe ...? In case you want some addon to fetch BPT predicted energy values instead of the real ones, you can try enabling this option. It will try to make ALL the addons and UI elements fetch predicted values.
This option has several drawbacks:
  • You can't choose which addons and UI elements will fetch
  • Increases BPT CPU (& reduces everyone else's) because all calls to UnitPower go through BPT
  • Can cause taint issues (Pipe will disable itself when this happens)
So I think you should leave this option unchecked unless you really need it

Castbar mode ...? With the changes to when energy is gained, you can see the spark in the cast bar as "how many energy of that spell I currently have", so with this option enabled (you should have the spark also enabled), when casting a spell that gives energy, the Eclipse bar will turn in a sort of castbar, still showing the arrow and the energy text. Just have this in mind: this isn't a castbar mod, so it shouldn't replace it, but this option reduces the places you need to have your eyes on.

Re: How to configure ?

I downloaded Balance Power Tracker yesterday and i couldn't figure out how to configure it.
Maybe I've missed something and am going to have a doh! moment after the answers.
I've tried different /..... and hitting escape button to access addon configuration but nothing has popped up.
As it is now it is stuck in the middle of the screen.
Can you please enlighten me on how to configure it.
Maybe make a how to configure Balance Power Tracker for dummies

Btw addon looks smooth, keep up the good work.
The route to access the options is:
Open menu -> Interface -> Addons tab -> Balance Power Tracker
At least, that's where it's supposed to be, I don't have any records of disappearing options.
Thank you!

e: I tried a lot with all glyphs I have, I couldn't replicate the error.
Turns out it was possibly a taint issue with Macaroon. Still weird that it caused BPT to bug out...

If it happens again I'll be sure to grab the code but as of now I am unable to get it to do it again.

I think I'll release a "skin pack" somewhere in the future as another addon, but I've got to give my other addons some love.

Vote++ for original artwork. Their art actually does look pretty good.

Nice Addon, i would only wish for 2 additional functions:

Buttonfacade Support (would be sooooo sweet)

Color Option for the Borders

I kinda hijacked your mod and inplemented the border option myself but an official release would be better so that everyone can enjoy it

(i can give you my changed Code if you want to)

Disable when OOC?

Is there an option to disable it when you're out of combat? If not I'd like to request one.

Great addon!

Great addon!
You can't disable it OOC, but you can set alpha OOC to 0 so it won't bother you out of combat

Alright, so I've been using this addon for a couple of days and through ICC.

I've already told you how much I appreciate this mod, and I still do.

Onto the topic: Having the bar split into two colours seemed logical to me at first, but after using it in more messy fights such as Deathwhisper-25 Heroic where I have several things I need to keep track of, I noticed that it does not translate well in my head.

Not only do I need to keep track of which colour I'm in, but also in which direction the arrow is moving. This is a much un-needed process if you'd just make is more simple.

Could you perhaps consider adding an option which colours the entire bar Solar colour when you're either in Solar Eclipse, or working towards Lunar? (And the other way around.)

This way, all I need to do during a fight should I get lost while dealing with adds or moving from fire, is to check the bar to see what colour it is - To know which spell to use.

Orange - I continue using Wrath.
Blue - I switch to Starfire.

I do not code LUA which is why I need to ask you for this, but perhaps others would be interested in a similar option. For me, it would be a great improvement.

Surely this could be done without eating too much memory for those concerned.

- Thanks in advance.

Mod is strong. If I could ask anything it would be an option to turn the bar vertical instead of horizontal (perhaps in the position sub-menu). It may just be me because I got used to using IceHUD's Eclipse module in a vertical layout but horizontal is driving me batty.

I do like the addon. I've kinda flip-flopped a few times while addons are getting updated and what not. I really like Blizzard's standard Eclipse art, so I used Move Anything for a while so I could use it. I'm currently trying to use old unit frames (until they get updated) that are hiding the Eclipse Bar so I turned BPT back on. In the most recent update, I'm getting the following LUA error.

Date: 2010-10-16 23:26:59
ID: 1
Error occured in: Global
Count: 1
Message: ...e\AddOns\BalancePowerTracker\BalancePowerTracker.lua line 116:
attempt to call global 'NewSpellQueueADT' (a nil value)
Debug:
[C]: NewSpellQueueADT()
...e\AddOns\BalancePowerTracker\BalancePowerTracker.lua:116: in main chunk

I don't have any LUA experience specifically, but I can't seem to see what might be wrong with it after looking through the code a bit. I tried commenting line 116 out but it still had an issue later when you used the var spellQ. I redownloaded and reinstalled v1.6 to make sure it wasn't just my fault, but it is still having the issue. I'll go back to v1.5 for now.

The main reason I'm still hesitant to use BPT is that I'm not able to use Blizzard art - I hope you're able to implement that soon. =)

Edit: Looks like I'm still having the issue in v1.5, I must have been using v1.4. v1.4 appears to be working great though.

Can you check if inside the BalancePowerTracker folder is a file named SpellQueueADT.lua, please?
Also, can you check if inside the .toc is SpellQueueADT.lua before BalancePowerTracker.lua?

e: Although I'm not replying to most of the features request, I've read all, and I'm implementing most of them, but I want to make a single release with all the updates, so, please, be patient.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked - the lua is properly titled and the .toc does point to the proper file. I suppose it could be a conflict with something I have installed, I'll disable everything else and test it.

Can't wait for the big update. =)

After raiding a few times, I agree with Cowt's statement above. It is very hard in amiddle of a fight to look for the small arrow, notice in which direction he is pointing and then translate that to what spell you have to use.
I suggest:
-an option to enlarge only the arrow
-an option to color either the whole bar or the amount of way your already workd towards an eclipse in one specific color
-an option to not highlight an eclipse but to highlight the eclipse icon corresponding to the nuke you should use (for example, if you ought to use starfire, the "lunar eclipse" icon is highlighted, when you should use wrath, the "solar eclipse" is highlighted

After all, the primary information you need to get from the bar is "which spell should I use". Everything else ("how much wrath until I need to switch to starfire", "am I having an eclipse and hit very hard right now") is more of bonus information not vital to your rotation (but helpfull).

Greetings,
Carylon

Hide out of Combat

I had a look but couldn't see a hide out of combat option. Did I miss it?

If not could you add an option please to hide the bar when not in combat.
