Friend List Colors
Version: 1.5.6.2
by: Vladinator [More]
Allows you to customize the friend list, format, colors and more! For example you can make it so all friends appear like "Username L80 Priest" where the name is colored by the class.

Use /flc or /friendlistcolors for slash command help.
1.5.6.2:
- Attempt to make the Alias module work together with EasyCopy.

1.5.6.1:
- Added slash command information when Alias module is enabled, this makes it a bit easier to get started.

1.5.6:
- Fixed Allias module, custom names should appear properly in the friend list, in whisper edit box, chat tabs and chat frame, along with toast messages. Do report if you find any issues.

1.5.5:
- Added an extra module for aliases. To set an alias set a note that contains "^Name$" (without quotes) and what ever is between ^ and $ will be the alias for that person. This currently works for RealID but will be expanded to work for regular WoW friends, soon(tm). This is still an experimental bonus feature, report errors in detail and I shall be forever in your debt.

1.5.4:
- Fixed issue with multiple games running on one RealID friend, this caused issues deciding the correct "toon" to display if using class, level, e.g. tags. This issue should no longer occur.

1.5.3:
- Added a proper tag for RealID names (or BattleTags), this way you can define where these appear in the syntax. Also these behave a bit specially, for instance "$BT, $N" will show "Mathew Jr, Charname" but when it's a regular character the first part and the comma are removed, so it would just show the character name. $B is the BattleTag, append C, D or T for coloring. T is the blue color used by default for RealID friends.
- Fixed an rare issue with nil level error on RealID friends, when they login/logout.

1.5.2:
- Fixed setting saving issue introduced with MoP update earlier.
- Added syntax for offline friends, you can customize how the format is, and add things like notes. Not all data is available since offline friends do not have any toons, zone, level, and such, especially RealID friends. Keep this in mind.

1.5.1:
- RealID friends that play WoW are now treated like characters in the list, only with the RealID name prefixed. In short, same syntax only with the RealID real name and blue color in front to indicate that this is indeed a RealID friend.
- Offline RealID friends have their note shown.
- Offline WoW friends have their note shown.

1.5:
- Works with Cata and MoP.
- Tweaked on performance, unnoticeable changes, but improvements never the less.

1.4:
- Fixed issue where scrolling could have side effects (at least since MOP), this should no longer be the case.
- Fixed a problem with restore command when you had no backups, making it show an error.

1.3:
- Updated for MoP, mostly TOC bump update.

1.2:
- Added slash commands, /flc and /friendslistcolors. You can set how the names are to be displayed, backup, restore and reset the addon. There are also some explanations how you can write your own syntaxes under "vars" menu. Type /flc for help when you login.

1.1b:
- Removed unnecessary code and optimized it, no more problems with other locales as well.

1.1:
- Improved matching of friends, this should fix the problem that other localizations experience with the old version of the addon.
- Added on/off for the shortening of "Level" into "L", edit the top of the LUA file and change the value of "USE_SHORT_LEVEL".

1.0:
- Initial release.

That is true, harl.

Also there are some situations some tags don't work, offline friends can't show class, level, e.g. The addon does not cache data, only uses what the game knows, hence why these wouldn't work on offline people.

Putting this here, just in case:

There's a certain chance for users with older (or modified) tags syntaxes to not see the names of their Battle.net friends at all when syntaxes miss the SB (offline) and SBT (online) tags. (which don't seem to have been necessary pre-MoP)

Solution: Simply add those tags via the corresponding slash commands (/flc). Those who never modified their syntaxes may just want to reset them via /flc reset which will add the tags automatically.

1.5.5 contains this experimental alias module, try it out for a spin. Will add alias for WoW friends sooner or later, I just hope this doesn't taint too much. :P

I recommend maybe adding the bonus features in a separate module like Xperl, DBM, SLDT, TipTac, Atlasloot does. Or just creating a seperate addon . So people who don't want it can disable it without any impact to performance.

I don't think it's dead, the author just need a little time to update it. Sadly "Friend List Colors" is kind of far away from "Friend List Renaming", hehe. BUT I am curious how these addons work together, if they can or if one overrides the other, hmm.
Haven't tested them togheter. I'm pretty sure it's dead no updates since December 2010, there's been numerous bugs through 4.1,4.2,4.3 and now it completley broke in 5.0.4 and no updates, as well as no replys to PM's or comments on the addon since 2010.

That is hard because the names of realid friends are not plain text, it's rendered on top of a weird looking string, so you can't tell one from apart from the other, if they both got the same name length, so it kind of makes it impossible to truly track realid friends.
There's an old addon from the start of Cata that used to be able to do it. It renamed people when logging in and out, as well as when they were speaking in chat, and in the chat editbox when you were typing a message.

Yes, I have expanded the tokens to incorporate RealID names. $B is the tag, and added T for coloring blue, just like the RealID color. $BT produces a blue name for RealID friends, it's hidden for non-RealID friends. Also, check changelog for an example.

The default syntax is more Blizzard like, but shows character info on RealID friends, I shall add an option in some future update to toggle on/off for RealID friends for customization purposes.

I think I'm in love thanks a lot this is great can finally nickname Real ID friends in my friends list using the notes! Now I just need to figure out how to rename them in chat as well , Thanks again.

Would be cool if not just the f-list is coloured, but also the guildlist, wholist, battleground-statistic etc

I added the ability to make custom syntaxes, i.e. decide for yourself how the friends are displayed. Check the changelog for 1.2 for information, also the in-game slash command should suffice getting you started.

Performance wise the RAM can go up to 2MB just for the addon if you scroll the friend list like crazy for a while, but garbage collection comes along and always reduces it down to below 40KB so it's not bad at all, it's not like it's constant growing to 2MB. Normal usage makes it grow to about 500KB and again it's not much considering modern machines.

If people prefer the "slim" version they can use 1.1b but the memory "issue" is still there only that it grows to around 500KB at worst, instead of 2MB.
