Muted Sounds - Combat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r18
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all* combat sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds (and also boss speeches!).
I tried to filter out all boss emotes and speeches/events in this version. Mistakes may happen of course, but I'm quite happy with it.

If you want 100% muted ingame sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It may not remove 100% of the combat sounds, especially if Blizzard decided to add a new spell or alter existing ones. Some sounds are pesky little buggers that hide somewhere else. If you identify them, let me know, and I will add them to this file.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Changelog:
[r18]
- Blizzard partly reversed the changes in 4.3.3 for patch 4.3.4. Happy times.

[r17]
- Patch 4.3.3 required a rather significant update

[r16]
- No more Deathy burping sounds!

[r15]
- The fishing bobber sounds were accidently muted in the last revisions. They are now audible once again.

[r14]
- Identified and added 114 WAV sound files, which WoW now seems to prefer over OGG files.

[r13]
- Added a few missing files.
- File now available again on WoWInterface

[r12]
- Updated to patch 4.3.2. There might a few bugs.
- File wasn't available on WoWInterface

[r11]
- Updated to patch 4.3 final

[r10]
- Updated to PTR patch 4.3

[r9]
- Removed Druid of the Flame death sounds
- Removed Druid of the Flame scorpion transformation sounds
- Removed various explosion-like sounds (exploding fireballs, jumping cats impacts and for whatever other spells they may used that)

[r8]
- Updated for patch 4.2

[r7]
- Updated for patch 4.1
- Removed the Singing Sunflower sounds

[r6]
- Removed new Ring of Frost sounds
- Removed new RockWorm sounds (Pebble, Corborus)
- Finally found the Valiona&Theralion Twilight Zone sound!
- Hopefully found the Cho'gall phase2 sound!
- Removed the sound emote from Nefarian's Dominion spell (heroic mode only). He gets kind of spammy there.

[r5]
- Removed the party member targetting sounds
- Removed two "roar" sounds (Yeti and Mammoth)

[r4]
- Updated for Cataclysm!
- Re-enabled a sound file which is used by Deadly BossMods

[r3]
- Sounds for ability used removed
- Aggro sounds removed
- "DeathImpact" sounds removed (fallover sounds)

[r2]
- Horn of Winter removed
- Fan of Knives removed
- Some warrior ability removed (Raging Blow?)
- Few more files, no clue which exactly

[r1]
- Initial release

Todo:
- Identify any missing spells left since patch 4.3.2

Optional Files (0)

I've updated both addons to the current PTR build as of 2011-10-21.

// Edit
Hm, seems that tiger cub pet is making noises even when not clicked.

Add these 2 files to prevent him from yawning every once in a while.
\Sound\Creature\TigerCub\PET_TigerCub_Yawn.ogg
\Sound\Creature\TigerCub\PET_TigerCub_Yawn.wav

I haven't noticed this, and I was doing the dailies on two characters, well, daily until finished.

In r8 there was one single sound that played while doing the dailies, but I fixed that in r9.
Now of course I haven't come near the dailies the moment I finished them, so there may have been a change on Blizzard's side since then.

Can you give any more details where/when/what happens?

I don't plan on disabling anything there, do you have something peculiar in mind?
In fact we're currently progressing on heroic Ragnaros, and I haven't heard anything as annoying as Nefarian's Electrocute there yet.

Data\Sound\Character\ and then the several races.
File names are pretty descriptive there.

Your best bet probably is to download the fully muted package, install something like ProcMon and filter for file *.mp3 and *.ogg file accesses by WoW.exe. Then cast the spell you want to identify and skim throug the long long list of sound files that had been accessed by WoW. It's a PITA, but I know it works, this is how I was doing it for those nasty spells I couldn't find.

Oh, and most likely you'll affect other spells as well if you re-enable that sound file.

(And no, I won't do it for you. Get yourself used to the tools if you want to do it yourself.)
Ok, thanks for help. Maybe it's universal file for more than one class, so I will keep looking.
EDIT:
I just found it...
Sound\Spells\ReputationLevelUp.ogg ....
Paladin daybreak proc, I hope it will be helpfull for someone else

Interesting, the game accesses two identical files in different locations. No idea why, another example how inconsistent the sound system is...

Also add
\Sound\Item\UseSounds\iEating1.wav
\Sound\Item\UseSounds\iEating1.ogg

// Edit
Note: Sounds from feeding pets most likely isn't included in that.
