Muted Sounds - Combat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r18
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all* combat sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds (and also boss speeches!).
I tried to filter out all boss emotes and speeches/events in this version. Mistakes may happen of course, but I'm quite happy with it.

If you want 100% muted ingame sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It may not remove 100% of the combat sounds, especially if Blizzard decided to add a new spell or alter existing ones. Some sounds are pesky little buggers that hide somewhere else. If you identify them, let me know, and I will add them to this file.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Changelog:
[r18]
- Blizzard partly reversed the changes in 4.3.3 for patch 4.3.4. Happy times.

[r17]
- Patch 4.3.3 required a rather significant update

[r16]
- No more Deathy burping sounds!

[r15]
- The fishing bobber sounds were accidently muted in the last revisions. They are now audible once again.

[r14]
- Identified and added 114 WAV sound files, which WoW now seems to prefer over OGG files.

[r13]
- Added a few missing files.
- File now available again on WoWInterface

[r12]
- Updated to patch 4.3.2. There might a few bugs.
- File wasn't available on WoWInterface

[r11]
- Updated to patch 4.3 final

[r10]
- Updated to PTR patch 4.3

[r9]
- Removed Druid of the Flame death sounds
- Removed Druid of the Flame scorpion transformation sounds
- Removed various explosion-like sounds (exploding fireballs, jumping cats impacts and for whatever other spells they may used that)

[r8]
- Updated for patch 4.2

[r7]
- Updated for patch 4.1
- Removed the Singing Sunflower sounds

[r6]
- Removed new Ring of Frost sounds
- Removed new RockWorm sounds (Pebble, Corborus)
- Finally found the Valiona&Theralion Twilight Zone sound!
- Hopefully found the Cho'gall phase2 sound!
- Removed the sound emote from Nefarian's Dominion spell (heroic mode only). He gets kind of spammy there.

[r5]
- Removed the party member targetting sounds
- Removed two "roar" sounds (Yeti and Mammoth)

[r4]
- Updated for Cataclysm!
- Re-enabled a sound file which is used by Deadly BossMods

[r3]
- Sounds for ability used removed
- Aggro sounds removed
- "DeathImpact" sounds removed (fallover sounds)

[r2]
- Horn of Winter removed
- Fan of Knives removed
- Some warrior ability removed (Raging Blow?)
- Few more files, no clue which exactly

[r1]
- Initial release

Todo:
- Identify any missing spells left since patch 4.3.2

Optional Files (0)

I don't believe so. I've tried upping several sounds manually (i.e. increasing the volume of the sound file itself), but as there's a field for volume defined in the SoundEntries.dbc file, it didn't (noticeable) change.
Thus I don't think it's possible with sound files only (and everything else is too risky in terms of ToC violation).

Thanks for letting me know.
The both sound files DBM uses are "Sound\\Doodad\\BellTollNightElf.wav" and "Sound\\Spells\\PVPFlagTaken.wav". I re-enabled them for both muted addons, so don't freak out if you hear those sounds again apart from DBM.

I think I'm able to push a new combat only version, though I'm still not 100% happy with it. Better than the current version at least.

I've meanwhile found a way to open the file (Ladik's beta version) and I'm currently in the process of filtering out unwanted sounds.

And thhis would be a heck easier if Blizzard hadn't decided to use /Doodad sounds for actual abilites and spells.

That being said, my local copy is almost ready (read: as I like it). Doesn't mean you'll agree with it, but I'm primarily doing this for myself.

As an example, I'm currently searching for the "Rally" ability which is used in Vortex Pinnacle. Meteors on Halfus also seemed to still have a sound effect.

Regarding creatures, I spend considerable time wading through the soundfiles to keep speeches and events and the like (i.e. when you engage a boss, when a boss enrages, when a boss kills a player and the like).
This is the main difference to the all muted version, where there is just plain silence instead. Here you'll hear the boss emotes.

I hope to be able to release it this week.

I wish I could. Most (all?) of the new files seem to be within the SoundCache-3.mpq file, which I am unable to open with an mpq editor to extract the file names.

I might be able to hack something away using SoundEntries.dbc, but it's not something I'm looking forward to do.

I'm not sure if you're trying to tell me something, but no, I don't know which soundfiles represent which abilities. It's often quite complicated, because they use sound files for multiple abilities.

You could take a look though at the sound.dbc which is packed in one of the mpq files. You'll need an mpq extractor and a dbc editor for that though.

Just delete the Sound folder in your Data directory to get rid of the muted sounds and restart WoW. You can also delete only certain sound files to unmute these abilites (of course you have to know which ability triggers which sound file, something I won't do for you ).

Um, thanks, I guess?
My Russian is a bit rusty (non-existant so to say - Google Translate...), but yes, I'll try to keep this up-to-date, even if it's only for my own sake.

I really like this...

I really like this sound mute addition - however I still do hear the default 'click' sound when you use an action say, on the action bar... besides that, works great thanks
