LayCallToArmsAlert

Version: 1.0
by: Layrajha [More]

This addon is here so that you don't miss one of the new "Call to Arms" for random dungeons, if you play a Tank or a Healer (or a Damage dealer and you play on a rather strangely populated realm). Whenever at least one of the roles that you have checked in the dungeon finder becomes of Call to Arms, you are alerted by either a sound, a text message, or both. You can also warn your guild (currently, it will warn only the roles that you have selected).

Currently, it is no more than a small hack in beta version. No configuration available. It works for Cataclysm Heroics and Rise of the Zandalari Heroics. Enabling and disabling different types of dungeons should be added in a future version.

To configure, use Blizzard's menu to access the interface options, switch to the "Addons" tab, and select "LayCallToArmsAlert".

Version Log:

1.0:
Added an options menu,
Added the possibility to display the alert in guild chat,
Changed the name from "Call of Arms" to "Call to Arms" because not being a native English speaker makes you do stupid mistakes from time to time.

0.1a:
First working version

So far this is the only addon I know of that performs this function, and it's still stuck at having to manually turn it on every time you log in. It won't remember the setting.

Anyone have a patch for this?

I will try to fix that fast tomorrow. I won't have much time to code, but it shouldn't require much change. Hopefully it will be fixed before the weekend, because else I will not be able to do it before next week.
Weekend is over. lol.

I agree...

An auto-On / Always-on feature would be nice.

It's "okay" as is, but i swap a lot of characters... I hate to go into options 2-3 times an hour (while waiting for a CTA)

well, I feel stupid. I have been busting my brain in this Lua, trying to find a way to get this mod to be "On" or "Loaded" by default. and no matter what I do .. seems I have to open the interface panel, find the addon, and manually turn it on. Upon every log in.

I know it's not that major of a deal... but I forget, and piss myself off :P .. lol

Agree.
I have been looking through other similar addons and this has the most elegant solution to it!

Okay so yeah, this addon is by far one of the most useful to date. However .. the issue with it having to be turned on manually every time you log in, has got to be fixed. I had a look in the LUA but alas I am no programer, and was lost in no time. Though it did look to me like it was already set to be on by default, must be something else.

Lovely addon, exactly what i was looking for, so thank you!

However, i have a problem with it, and that is that it seem to reset the "Enable LayCallToArmsAlert" option everytime you logout.
So the next time you log in, the option still isn't checked.

It will alert you depending on what roles you have checked in the LFD interface. If you checked "Damage" only, then yes, you will get a warning. Similarly, if you are an hybrid class and have decided not to select "Healer" in the LFD frame, you will not get warned about Healer Call to Arms.

While it checks what is selected, it obviously doesn't matter if you are in queue or not. Just make sure the roles you want to play are checked.

Does this work for DPS as well?
I know the chances of a DPS Call to Arms is extremely unlikely, but it's not impossible, and indeed it would be my reason for getting this (wouldn't want to miss out on that!).

Thank you for your comment!

You're probably right about the first comment, I didn't check that properly, and I didn't find the information about that event on wowwiki (the event is there, but undocumented). I will update that and make sure it works.

About your second comment, the second parameter seems to be the priority. 3 clearly means that you don't have a call to arms, and 1 that you have it. I think that 2 is in between, shorter queues, but with no rewards anyway. Unless I've done a stupid mistake in the code, it should be fine, I think.

Edit:
Confirming after a few tests that it should work once version 0.1a has been accepted by wowi's staff. Thank you again.

I don't think it's going to work quite as you intended. You need to call RequestLFDPlayerLockInfo() to update the Call To Arms information from the server (otherwise it only updates when you open the Dungeon Finder). When you get the results back from the server, the event LFG_UPDATE_RANDOM_INFO is thrown.

Also, there can be more than one Call To Arms active at a time (the second parameter for GetLFGRoleShortageRewards can be 1 to LFG_ROLE_NUM_SHORTAGE_TYPES). I've seen both tanks and healers get rewards at the same time.
