iLvLr

Version: 2.0.105
by: JerichoHM, Troox

Please join the Facebook group so you can share your thoughts with the developer.

iLvLr
is an add on that has been developed to conveniently provide at-a-glance information inside of the character pane. The intended purpose is to make the gearing up process more efficient. Future development will also make this process much easier to maintain across multiple characters. Current features of iLvLr include:

  • iLvL of each piece of equipment
  • iLvL indicator that is color coded to indicate which items are holding you back the most (red - low; white - avg; green - above average)
  • Average thresh hold for iLvL indicator currently hard set to +/-10 of average equipped iLvL (determined by the typical 13 jump of each set of gear)
  • Durability indicator added to replace deprecated add on DurabilityHelper (//future updates to toggle this feature to show/hide/alert in works//)
  • Durability coloring matches that of the armored man from default UI. Green is safe, Yellow is alert, Red is Broken.
  • Missing Enchant and Gem indicators implemented to determine if you are missing any enchants or gems
  • Gem/Enchant indicator takes into consideration your profession for Blacksmith sockets and Enchanter's ring enchants
  • Takes into account belt buckles
Slash commands are supported, but limited. The /ilvlr prefix is required and will also give version information and a list of acceptable arguments for the slash commands.

Future development includes, but is not limited to:
  • Optimized code
  • Currency and Money data broker to track VP/JP/CP/HP and Gold, Silver, and Copper on all characters
  • Currency tracker will also have a VP/JP/CP/HP weekly cap indicator as well
  • Data broker implemented to track all characters iLvL (equipped)
  • Data broker implemented to track all characters Level, XP, XP to Level, and rest XP
  • Data broker implemented to record the profession and skill level of that profession and provide linking of all characters
  • More slash commands to allow customization of each module to some extent such as show/hide/alert modes
  • Customization interface that will allow color, location, and size customizations
  • Gem/Enchant indicator changed from letters to icons to allow easy:
    • Slot count
    • Gem count
    • Color count
    • Gem quality observation with colored borders
    • Correct color indicator (This might happen, but many people gem different colors as the gems reward more than the bonus)
  • Stat-Weight indicator that will display a list of stats in the order of priority
  • Stat-Weight indicator will also have goal indicator changing indicator from red to yellow to green as you close in on your goal (such as hit cap)
  • Equipped iLvL on inspect of another player (this will only show equipped iLvL. This will display in the inspect pane and possibly the tool tip)

I only ask you to be patient as I have a wife, kids, full-time job, college, and 10 85's in my raiding guild. Skill Helper is being worked on actively, but nothing is completed to a point of satisfaction to pass through my own standards.

This is not the addon itself, but the way it is packaged: most addons have the addon folder within the zip file, then the files within that folder. iLvLr just has the addon files directly in the zip file, which confuses Minion.

It's not exactly difficult to update manually, but I'd prefer just letting Minion do everything for me.

Update

I'm setting up a new developer to maintain my add ons now that I have stopped playing. I'm going to provide consulting and work with him on both code, debugging, and user support. I hope you all will be as patient with him as you have been with me and offer him the same level of support!

It's been a lot of fun and I don't think it's fair to leave you with a stagnant project because I got bored with a game.

Thanks for the suggestions

I know many of you most likely do not visit Curse to see the posts I've had there.

At this time I am not playing WoW (going on 2 months now).

I have not decided if I will return since at this time WoW no longer interests me (played since 1st Beta in Vanilla). If I choose to stay then I will continue to update the add on's that I have written. If not I apologize for leaving you all hanging.

I will unlock the permissions to allow other members to maintain these add on's if i choose not to stay.

Long story short I've grown bored with most games and I'm actually doing a lot more of my own programming in the attempt to release a game myself.

I may attempt a final release to incorporate some solutions to various requests posted here and on curse as well as at my FB group for the add on's, but again... Right now I would have to be willing to log in and learn about any and all changes that have occurred in the past two weeks.

There are massive changes coming with MoP and I suspect both of my add on's will die with the release of that expansion. I will have made a decision by then and will either allow the add on's to die or release them for either another developer or a fan to update.

Anyway to give the fonts some intelligence? Some of the numbers are quite hard to read when your character is pictured in front of a white (snow) background. Especially the green/white text. See pic:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Although in the pic the white text is easier to see then it was in-game. Possibly because it "optimized" it when I uploaded it to ImageShack.

this add on is so simple and efficient! might I suggest adding a character frame button in the newest version to show and hide iLvLr information!

An update

Great news everyone! The JerichoHM Add On team is about to grow by one. My friend wants to get into Add On development and we are going to team up to create a better class of add on for you all.

I am bringing him in on iLvLr with the assist in the code optimization and feature adding. We have an idea that will either be integrated into iLvLr or become its own separate add on (most likely the second).

As mentioned below there should be an update to iLvLr in the near future bringing in the highest demand features. Stay tuned and I look forward to the upcoming release.

Ok so UPDATE!

The rewrite is taking longer than I wanted so I'm going to come back into the original code and deploy the two largest demand features of iLvLr on Inspect frame and Durability Settings (On/Alert/Off).

I'll start working on it tonight if I can and push them out in seperate updates. The first update will have the durability settings (and if easy enough probably complete module settings) via slash commands. the second update will have the iLvLr display on the inspect frame + a banner to display the AVG EQUIPPED ILVL. It is possible that update will have the AVG EQUIPPED ILVL on the player tool tip as well.

I will try to add Something like Gem Counter to the add on in this as well. If I don't have time I've seen code that can detect another add on and I believe manipulate that code so perhaps I can detect Gem Counter and force it's location to move out of my display until I can replace it all together.

I did want to provide you with updated information relevant to your request. I am still working on the major revision update. I am planning to incorporate Something similar to gem counter in the revision update. All of my code is there to perform the task already it's just a matter of collection and displaying said information.

It is not my place to update GemCounter, but typically you can manipulate the code to place the frame(s) at a different offset.

iLvLr Revision Progress

I didn't want to leave the non-facebook users in the dark on this one so here is a little information shared.

I have been working on code optimization and a major revision of iLvLr. The end product will appear the same to you (the users) initially. The Revision update is simplifying how the data is managed within iLvLr and optimization of how the logical flow works.

I have finished the hand editing of the 14 pages of code from 1.0.252 and I have begun building the new system for how iLvLr is being planned to work. The current product has a completed internal database (Lua Table structure) of almost 300 lines already. This includes a settings section for upcoming customization plans. I am literally adding things that I think of while I write this message to you all.

The primary task of this initial revision update is to remove redundant code. I am taking the current functions structure and breaking it down to 2 or 3 power functions that call on other smaller functions to do tasks that are otherwise redundant in the current code. This is a major attempt to clean up my code so it is presented better.

Other plans within the revision include more commenting so when others look into my code for reference (like I do to many other addons) they will understand what exactly is going on.

Goals for updates that people look forward to seeing will include:
  • slash command control over modules (initially the ability to toggle them on and off)
  • iLvLr showing it's data in the inspect frame
  • showing the target's Equipped iLvL in the tooltip (to get Average I would require both parties to have the addon and have a polling service. The equipped iLvL should be the information most valuable and is my most missed feature from GearScore now that I no longer use it)
  • Equipped iLvL banner in inspect and Equipped/Average banner in player windows
  • Fixing various typos, and accidental exclusions in the code (many which have had no effect on the addons end results)
  • *Capable Dungeon Meter (A bar that will show you what dungeons you can and should be running. I am using a plan similar to WoW-Heroes for this feature. This will also say which raid bosses you are prepared to tackle)
  • **Alt Toon Tracker (I want this to be a button that toggles a frame still within the character pane that will bring up a tooltip that shows all of your recorded characters) This module is intended to show:
    • Character Name (colored by class and possibly with an Icon)
    • Character Equipped/Average iLvL
    • Character Level
    • Character current XP, remaining XP, and rest XP
    • Characters Gold, Silver, and Copper (color coded and with icons if possible)
    • Characters current CP/HP/VP/JP and an indicator if you are capped for the week
    • If possible I would like to store the profession links as well, but I'm uncertain if this will be possible.
*The dungeon meter may not be included in the next update, but it is a goal to have this introduced as quickly as possible

**The alt toon tracker module may not be included in the next update, but it is a goal to have this introduced as quickly as possible

I'm sharing this in all of the media I have to communicate with my user base so you all know that this add on has a very large future. I began writing this for a personal gearing process and ended up releasing what you are now using, and hopefully enjoying. I have since decided that I wanted it to replace certain addons for me that I felt were large and bloated (and from digging in their code inefficient). I am hoping to provide you with a single addon to help with the investment of your character including gearing, maintaining gear, organizing multiple characters, and informing you of how others do the same. More features get added to my feature creep almost daily and I hope to provide you all with the best I can.

On a lighter note I want to celebrate iLvLr's 2 week release anniversary and between all mediums I've already seen over 1000 downloads.

before I post my long revision progress report I wanted to personally reply to you Xylan. I most certainly will be happy to look into integrating something like the addon you have mentioned. I believe I already have it tasked actually! I haven't looked at GemCounter just yet, but I'm assuming it reports how many of each gem you have. I actually intend to update the Gem/Enchant indicator to use icons that will show you exactly what you have gemmed. The enchant indicator will be less flashy, but still there.

All modules in future updates are planned to have the ability to be individually toggled. I hope to have the on Inspect features out soon, but the revision is currently my priority.

Check out my next post to see where things are and what things are planned.
