GatherNow- Gathering Level Helper

UPDATED FOR MISTS!!!!!
Herbalism to 600 is not currently implemented.

GatherNow aims to be a lightweight gathering profession assistant. Its soul purpose in existence is to provide a small visual queue for what resource to gather and where to gather it best.

The helper was designed from the point of view of a high level character skilling up a gathering profession. It is intended to provide the fastest possible route to max level as possible.

More details below:

Features:

  • Supports Mining, Herbalism and now Skinning!!! (Thanks Dridzt)
  • Interface provides a small icon for the resource(s)you should be gathering and the location(s) they can be found
  • Mousing over the resource will tell you it's name and suggested zone for farming it. The suggested zone may change as you skill up, alternate zones included for some but not all resources.
  • Display level as you skill up
  • Remind you to train when available with a chat message and a sound
  • Uses some ACE3 Framework
  • When possible the recommended zone is based upon your current location. (This is mainly used in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms)

IMPORTANT Things to note:
  • Suggestions are based upon information gathered on Wowhead
  • Rare resources are not required to level therefore currently do not exist in the helper
  • You may come across ore or herbs that are not suggested to gather in order to level. This does not mean you shouldn't gather it. The suggestions are based solely on getting to max skill as soon as possible.

In Planning but might take some time to happen:
  • Skinning Help
  • More adjusting and clarification of the frame. Current resourece icons are too close together on the window.
  • Way Point to next zone, map overly of where to find the resource in a zone
  • Gathered material values, scan all gathering prof mats in the AH and give list of prices and suggested farming for profit
  • Improved Character level and location logic to improve suggestions for lower level players

Things this add-on won't do:
  • Track nodes or routes - there are already several great add ons available for doing this and I do not wish to reinvent the wheel in that aspect.

Known Issues:
  • Screen location does not accurately retain it's exact location.
  • Currently modes must be toggled by using the buttons on the gui. Tracking interaction hopefully will work in the future
  • Does not remember your tracking on reload of UI (this includes login), therefore you currently have to select the toggle for what you are farming
  • Does not properly hide if you do not have the gathering skills supported

Change Log:
6/4/2014
- Updated to support Skinning

3/14/2013
- Updated to work with 5.2.

2/28/2012
- Corrected issue with ore showing up as pants
- Uploaded same version that is available on other add-on sites.

2/22/2012
- Changed name of add-on. Another add-on with the same name existed already.
- Fixed several issues that caused inconsistent loads.
- Uploaded same build as it available on Curse.

2/21/2012
- Herbalism Completed
- Completed GUI layout and added tooltips
- Fixed bug where a reload was required to populate the screen
- Fixed several bugs related to itemID's

2/16/2012
- Fixed bug that caused no update when skill first learned
- Frame now hides and shows with tracking or ore
- Added start zone locations based upon characters race
- Added PlaySoundFile to trigger when you can train next level (need to add character level logic)
- Broke the Creation of the window into several functions

2/15/2012
- Converted to ACE3 Libraries
- Corrected bug when no profession existed
- Skill level now increases on the window as you mine.
- Name of add on corrected to WhereToNow instead of WhereToMine.
- Initial feature set enabled
2/15/2012 (10:30 PM EST)
- Rezipped from Windows PC to eliminate compression error
- Fixed bug where a zone would display if you didn't have mining
- made some adjustments to retaining screen position (needs more work)

All those are in the plan for a future release. Thanks for posting the list though it means I am on the right track.

Edit:
It might also be more elegant to use a single function with different parameters for setting the resource types for the different skill levels instead of copy-pasting it so often (--Copper is probably not the right comment for skill 525 )

Also, an option to have the Herb/Mining windows in different windows instead of selecting them via the two left buttons.

If you don't want to make a whole GUI, LUA options would probably be fine as long as you provide a sufficient explanation on how to configure them.

Might post some more suggestions, looking forward to your response.
Thanks for the feedback. Localization is probably last on the list of priorities. As this is my first add-on I don;t plan to tackle localizing it to non-English clients anytime soon, too many actual code issues need to be resolved first.

I am working on a full code overhaul at the moment that add's skinning and simultaneous tracking to the GUI as well as actual customization to the frame itself.

I am a pascal dev by trade with heavy influence in object-oriented programming. This add-on started off as a proof of concept and got more interest than I expected. Now that I have the thing working and my head around lua scripting a bit more I plan to re-code the whole thing in a more modular and expanded manor.
When you are re-coding another suggestion I have is to have the window remember where it's been positioned between sessions.

Edit: Upon logging in today, it's displaying my fishing numbers as my herbalism and my herbalism as my mining.

:-) I'll have to look at this one. Hopefully it's a mis-typed item ID
I thought it might be something like that. If it helps the item I'm seeing is Worn Mail Pants

One thing I'd like is if I could make the window a little bit bigger (at my choice) and include both Mining and Herbalism on one screen instead of having to click back and forth. I was using my toon who is trained in both, so that's the only thing I could think of at this time.
Thanks for the feedback. User options are planned for the near future, I too think the size is a bit small.

Duel(or triple) monitor mode is also planned for a future release release as well. Hopefully can get them done in soon.

The current uploaded version does not currently work as intended. I had not anticipated actual downloads due to the Alpha disclaimer. That being said I will release a functional version later today.
Ah! This looks very promising! Wit this, hopefully I won't have to keep alt+tabbing to WoW Professions all the time.

Question: Will it display the area to go based on closest proximity to you, or just the optimal location? If only the optimal location, would it be possible to also show an alternative location which may or may not be closer to your current location?
Currently it shows the optimal location based upon best node spawns according to WoWhead data. In a future version (hopefully soon) it will take into account your location. I also plan to add a mouseover popup or some other UI feature to display alternate locations for a given resource. Currently it only checks if your in Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor and gives you the suggestion based on that.

I like the look of this addon.

I'll keep it for the mining (on alts), but am keen to see your future plans - the other gathering professions - come to fruition!

Thanks.
