Kait Resto v2
Version: 1.1

YouTube of the UI in action

This is a resto druid UI, I haven't tested it on any other class. I briefly set it up to work in Moonkin spec.
It is at 1920x1200 resolution and is a completely unsupported UI, take it as is.

The target name font is called Christopher Hand.
http://www.dafont.com/christopherhand.font
Go read the licensing details there, and give that guy some money if you can.

Load out-of-date addons

Grid will need your own personalising.

Some addons will need profiles loading.

/kgpanels config - The profile is called "Kait" and the layout is called "RestoDruid"
/sbf options - The profile is called "Kaitai-Ravencrest"
/bt - The profile is called "Kaitai-Ravencrest"
/grid - The profile is called "Kait healer"
Chatter - The profile is called "Kaitai"

If I missed any the profiles are either "Default" or "Kaitai".

To use the custom talent frame:

1) Go into the Esc menu and then Key Bindings > Toggle Talent Pane - Unbind this
2) Make a macro like this:

Code:
/click TalentMicroButton
/run PlayerTalentFrame:SetPoint("TOPLEFT",635, -395)
/run WeakAuras.ScanEvents("EVN_O")
Thanks again Smallo for the taint fix!

3) drag this macro onto a (hidden) bartender button.
4) use /kb to activate Bartender's keybinding mode and bind the macro button to be whatever key you used to use to open the talent frame (the default key is N).

You may find that elements of the talent panel effect need moving around a bit for example the glowing background is placed to be behind a tall female night elf. If your character is a goblin/gnome/dwarf, some stuff might need repositioning. It's possible some auras are only set to load if your character is a resto druid. Look in unloaded auras list if you can't see it.

A month or two I think. I'm trying to make something totally different and non-minimalist so it might take a while. I've not even 100% decided what class to make it for :-)

As for fixing it for 5.3, yes try disable all separate Lib addons. As I understood it, addons that need a lib normally include it in their own folders anyways? As for Grid, just keep it up to date. I think the bug you describe is caused by people leaving and entering the group mid-combat (happens a lot in LFR). A reload when safely out of combat normally works.

EDIT: Having played as resto last night, not sure why but Grid wouldn't show all raid members, and I had 6 row columns mixed with 5 row columns for some reason. I checked the default raid grid in the game, and the people were put from group 1 to 5, so 25players, of which only 22 were shown.

This UI is really something, and it would be a shame to be left unattended. Not only does it look great, but it's not another cheap rip off of Elv-ui and whatnot.

I think update everything apart from the Shared Media addon. You can probably update that too but I'm not 100% sure.

More than half of the addons need updates, and I don't know which was modified and which wasn't . Can we get a new release with the updates pls ?

EDIT: Well, having raided...if you can call it that. I get an entire 2fps during combat, so yeah. Defo addon problems.

Yes. It's not the quickest thing in the world, but it's fairly fast if you just Duplicate old ones, then you only have to change 2 text fields. Use a Dynamic Group. If you want to change the size/whatever of all of them, select the group in the list, then the Display tab should edit all of them at once.

WeakAuras placed neatly on top of Bartender (+OmniCC). It's pretty easy to maintain so long as you don't frequently move buttons around on the Bartender bar.

Yes, the top one is Focus (the little vertical pink line is focus need to fire Chimera shot). Bottom one is a cast bar and also target portrait when not casting.

Cooldowns

Thank you! Awesome idea. My sense is I need to spend the time in Weak Auras to make the colored cool down bars per character. Those are great.

On lesser played alts I can probably get away with just the buttons and cooldown timers. Then if I start playing them more I can invest in Weak Auras.

I love this approach.

Three follow ups:
- How do you do the longer cooldowns in your healing UI (i.e. Barkskin)? A Weak Aura for each one?
- How do you create procs, glows, stacks, etc. on the same button? Is that just Bartender and Omni CC?
- I understand the Hunter UI cooldown bars; what are the two thicker bars below them, right between the frams? Cast bar and something?

Thanks again.

Hi Mashugana,

thanks for the compliments. Glad to help.

For cooldowns, it's a tricky one indeed. This resto UI can be ultra-minimal largely because so much healing information is displayed on the grid squares themselves. And as you've seen, rotationally there are only 2 cooldowns (and a buff), with all other cooldowns being medium to long. No DPS or tanking class has so few short cooldowns. So you'll struggle to make it quite as minimal as this.

Attached is a picture of some UIs I use on alts.
(they are more pixel accurate in reality, the jpeg is scaled down).

I think your best option might be a combination of the hunter and mage UIs seen here (the 1st and 2nd pics). The hunter UI has buttons which obviously aren't super minimal, but I tried to use the buttons twice by using glows to show buffs, proc and stacks and stuff. A bit like the old Inline Auras addon did.

It's the bars on the hunter UI which are the important bit (not the block of buttons below)

The hunter bars, with no text, icons or numbers on them, are extremely usable. You don't need the texts because the durations are short and the bars' shrinking is more than enough to give accurate info on timings (especially on a rotation you do hundreds of times a day). They don't need icons because they are clearly and sensibly coloured to match the abilities they indicate. It's best if small sets of bars like this don't dynamically grow up or down but instead have all bars in a fixed location. This is because it's more efficient (for your brain) to have the bars always in the same order. The set of bars in the screenshot shows a player buff, 2 cooldowns and 2 target debuffs. Weakauras is great at creating efficient little mixes of bars like that :-)

The mage UI is a bit different with 3D effects auras to show the 2 main fire mage buffs (Heating Up and instant Pyroblast), but with all other cooldowns as bars below. Those bars are labelled with text because it's the mages' entire cooldown set.

I can imagine something cool working for you where you had a 3D effect for one really prominent thing you were tracking, then neatly below that a few minimal coloured bars. All other cooldowns could then be neatly out of the way like in the Kait:RestoV2 UI.

I don't know much of Paladin cooldowns, but remember that if something has both a duration and a cooldown, you're usually only going to need to track one those things.

I can't think of much else to add. I hope this helps anyways.

Cooldowns?

Kait:

I love your UIs in general and have learned a lot from you about minimalism - thank you for your time, effort and willingness to share.

I still struggle with cool downs. You have brilliantly created Weak Aura's for your two main cool downs on this healing Druid. How would you approach cool downs for classes that need to track 4-8 cool downs?

My main is a Prot Paladin who tanks 90 heroics. For my basic tnking rotation I nned to manage at least 5-10 cooldowns at all times (Hammer of the Righteousness, Avenger's Shield, Holy Wrath, etc.) and then my 1-3 min cooldowns (Avenging Wrath, Ardent Defender, etc.)

How would you do it?

I've tried a ForteXorcist style system and I can see what is on cooldown but not what is available (if you get my meaning). I've tried putting a Bartender square of buttons with Omni CC in the center screen. Actually, this works - but it is ugly to a minimalist like me

Weak Aura's might work but I suspect I'd need to create 10+ auras. I don't mind that so much until you consider alts....

Anyhoo, if you have advice on a general approach to cooldowns that is class agnostic I am all ears. I like the way you have Barkskin at the bottom of your UI - is there an answer in that approach?

Thank you again - and sorry for the long email. I am a data analyst for a big company and I enjoy finding the most efficient path possible

Cheers!

Hmm, not sure. Can you give a bit more info? Which addons don't have those profiles?

For the action bars themselves, they're all hidden. So just keybind all your spells to bars then set the visibility to make them hidden. Loading my Bartender settings into your version of the UI is actually pretty meaningless (even though I did give instructions for it).
