FauxMazzle Beta
Version: 1.0.0 Beta 6
by: Fizzlemizz [More]
1920x1200 and 1920x1080 only ATM.

Many thanks to Elcarath for allowing a range of skins to be added to this project

If anyone knows how to contact noob123 of the MazzleUI era I would love to include the skins noob' created in the FauxMazzle package, appropriately accredited of course.

Changed in Beta 6
  • Added a light weight Mazzle style HUD with additional Druid Mana/Pet Health insert (screen shots still need to be updated).
  • Removed IceHUD from the package (Current FauxMazzle users will need to either remove the two IceHUD folders from the wow\Interface\Addons folder or disable IceHUD) in-game.
  • Changed the mechanism for clamping the background artwork.
  • Moved the DUF class bars and combo/anticipation points from their respective unit frames to the bottom of the new HUD.
  • New Combo/Anticipation point texture.
End of changes.

Do you have fond memories of your very first Mazzlegasm? Well get your mind out of the gutter because this is so not that .

This is FauxMazzle ie. I'm not bringing the Mazzifier back. FauxMazzle is a look and feel tribute to MazzleFizz's once great UI that sadly didn't make it out of the Burning Crusade.

What you don't get and probably never will:
  • A happy arm waving gnome to make you smile while you configure your addons.
  • Pages of witty questions to help setup your addons for your class and spec.
  • Setup of your class and spec. or setup of your spells on the action bar or setup of keybinds (face it, if you remember MazzleUI your too old and grizzled in the ways of WoW to think someone can do this for you and get it right).
  • A databroker similar to FuBar (there are plenty out there, grab one you like).
  • Probably lots of other stuff, MazzleUI was very comprehensive and went far beyond the look and feel aspects of game-play.

What you do get:
  • Background textures that although not Mazz's, I consider are a reasonable aproximation. If you have the textures from the original MazzleUI (including those from other authors that were part of the pack), they should also work with FauxMazzle. If you do have Mazzlefizz's original textures please DO NOT publish/upload/share them, Mazzlefizz was very specific about their use.
  • 4 additiona skins with many thanks to Elcarath.
  • An in-game configuration dialog for the "configurable" addons listed.
  • The ability to choose your own replacement addons (which you will have to configure yourself).
  • The ability to switch off/on configuration of individual addons should you want to make and preserve your own changes or play around and then re-apply the default settings.
  • The joy of once again seeing a cool MazzleUI style layout without hours of fiddling around.
  • The ability to have this quick, easy setup for all your characters new and old.

How do I use FauxMazzle?
  • Download FauxMazzle
  • Exit the game.
  • Rename or move elsewhere the WTF folder at [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\WTF.
  • Move elsewhere all the folders (or at least the ones not on the list below) from [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Unzip the FauxMazzle .zip file and copy the newly extracted addons to the folder [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Start the game and at the character selection screen press the "AddOns" button (lower left corner) and check the "Load out of date AddOns" box (the first time you run FauzMazzle configuration tool (/FM) you will be warned to do this even if you have already done so).
  • Enter the world and type /FM . The configuration window should have boxes ticked for the addons you have installed.
  • Check/Uncheck boxes for the addons you do/don't want configured.
  • Press the "FauxMazzle" button.
  • Cross your fingers and keep in mind this is a BETA, which is pretty much what I am doing as I press the upload button .

NBAQs or Never Before Asked Questions (FauxMazzle is just so shiny and new)
  • Where are my MicroMenu and Bags buttons? - Move the mouse to the right hand side of your screen just above the background artwork and your MicroMenu will appear. Move the mouse just above MicroMenu and your bags will appear.
  • I've installed/used FauxMazzle but logging on to another character my screen looks rubbish again. - Type /FM for each character after they logon for the first time, FauxMazzle will remember which addons to configure from the last use. Press the FauxMazzle button, happy days.

Included addons that can be FauxMazzled:
  • Discord Art - Background artwork and text displays (money, armor, position etc.)
  • Discord Unit Frames
  • Chinchilla Minimap
  • Aloft - Name plates
  • Arkinventory - Bags
  • Autobar - Professions, food, drink, potions, lots of useful things at a click
  • Capping - Battleground status
  • Dominos - Action bars

  • Masque - Button skin
  • Moveanything
  • Omen - Threat meter
  • Prat - Chat
  • Quartz - Cast timers
  • Ratingbuster - Item comparison

  • sRaidFrames
  • Tinypad - text editor
  • Tiptac - Tooltips
  • TomTom
  • TrinketMenu - Trinket buttons
  • Xcalc - Calculator
  • Xloot - Loot info

Included addons that FauxMazzle currently does not configure:
  • SmartBuff - Buff warnings (FauxMazzle will pop up the SB config. window when re-loading the first time a character is configured or if the FauxMazzleConfig file under the WTF folder is deleted)
  • Examiner - Player gear inspector
  • Gatherer - Gathering nodes
  • GTFO - Don't stand in the fire
  • Molinari - Auto Milling, Prospecting, Disenchanting and Lock Picking (hold down the Alt key then click the item in your bags)
  • MoncaiCompare - Equipmenty comparison

MazzleUI was awesome, this is just a pale substitute (as you've found out) although I do appreciate the compliments . Thank you Naizian for trying out FauxMazzle and thank you for the feedback. It might be possible to add unique skin profiles to the /FM process if FauxMazzle can attract enough additional skins.

Untill then:

Different skins for different characters: After a /FM, type /DART then press the Misc. Options button (bottom left). Add a unique profile name in the "New Profile" entry and press Create. Select the skin you want (or not if the skin was part of the /FM process).

This character will now always use the new skin unless you /FM them but, you can now /FM other characters for the default (without effecting previous characters with unique profiles) and rinse and repeat if you want these to use different skins.

If you have profiles already set up with a skin you want to use, after /FM, type /DART, press Misc. Options and then select the profile from the "Select" drop down and press Load. One profile, several characters.

If you want to preserve the skin but /FM (everything but the background art), un-check the Discord Art box before a /FM.

Simple right? .

Re: New HUD

Hi Nonspecific,

Sorry, no HUD configuration in-game yet (except for enabling/disabling) but in the [wow]\WTF\account\[youraccount]\SavedVariables\FauxMazzle.lua file there are the settings for the HUD. Just up the scale as desired while not logged in (settings get overwritten each time you logout).

Tha class bars are part of Discord Unit Frames (/DUF, Class Properties (lower left tab) individual bars can be configured). Once you've done that, to stop FauxMazzle overwritting your new settings each time you /FM, press the Misc. Options button (lower left), enter a new profile name in the New Profile entry (anything but Default, Custom or FauxMazzle) and press Create. You will have to load the profile (select it from the Load Profile droplist and press Load) every time you /FM but you won't have to re-set the bars each time.

Thanks stevelongjr1971,

The next update (which will have a Mazz' style HUD) will clamp the side panels to the bottomleft/bottom right of the screen rather than attaching to the minimap border texture. This should (fingers crossed) fix that problem. I'll see if I can do something with the unit frames, I'm not sure the budget will stretch to a larger monitor by then .

In the mean time you can type in /dart, select "Left chat background"/"Right chat background" from the "Select Texture" drop list (top right) and move them using the <, >, v, ^ nudge buttons.

For the target, type /duf select the Target tab (along the top) and do the same with the nudge buttons.

BTW, thank you for trying FauxMazzle .

It dont seem to hurt the the game just looks bad, very bad haha. The same thing goes for the current target its off to one side. I hope in near future you can have a setup for us that use a larger monitor and set screen res up higher, all in all im just so happy to see mazzle back i fell in love back in the day have missed it since the progect was dropped back then.. great work my hats off to you and everyone else that's had the hand in this. Thanks

"the word and pic", is that chat frame and your character portrait(picture)? If so, which side do they go too?

I'll see if I can replicate the effect.

Hey kasca,

FauxMazzle currently only supports 1920x1200 and 1920x1080 (sort of) screen resolutions as a Beta.
I hope to be adding better scaling as the Beta progresses,

If you are using one of these screen resolutions can you describe what you mean by "it all off". Unit frames not positioned, parts of unit frames in the wrong place etc.. the more detail the better,

Re: Re: Re: Thanks

If I get it wrong, I expect to be set right . Maybe not seven years but a long time and the TBC API changes were quite dramatic.

The chat settings are stored in [drive]:\program files\wow\WTF\Account\[account name]\[realm]\[character]\chat-cache.txt. Make sure it's no read-only.

Quartz OmniCC and a TomTom predecessor were part of the original MazzleUI. I'll see if there's a way to work them in without making things too cluttered.

You can change Icehud preferences and uncheck the IceHud box in FauxMazzle and your preferences should be preserved. Let me know if this doesn't work.

I'll look at adding a "Preserve my changes" options for unchecked items so if an addon is installed but unchecked it will just update the character profile for that addond rather than doing a full re-configuration.

Mapster is working again? cool, I'd given up on it after MOP came out. I'll look at adding a Recommended section to the page and maybe including some of them (tried GoGoMount yesterday and it gave me an error to do with Druid form every time I logged in).

Dungeon Difficulty should have been there but I've been using a modified version of DetachedMiniButtons prior to releasing with MoveAnything so a few things may have fallen through the crack. Others may be post vanilla game additions that MoveAnything hides by default and I haven't been aware of so keep them comming.

I'm not sure what the Guild Group Flag is but I have added the Queue status button up beside the mail icon and support for the BugSack icon if people use it like I do.

In MazzleUI TrinketMenu goes to the left of Autobar under the status text which is how FauxMazzle will (should) configure it.

Thanks again for taking the time, it is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Addons like SmartBuff, even though I use it, are too class/spec. specific and I don't know enough about each one to think I can do a reasonable job of setting it up.

First, I apologize for being a PITA. It's a character flaw and I hope you wont hold it against me. TBC was release 2.1 years after vanilla. You were probably joking but someone else will take that as the gospel.

9/2/01 WoW announced, 11/23/04 WoW released, 1/16/07 TBC, 11/13/08 WotLK, 12/7/10 Cata, and 9/25/12 MoP.

Thanks for the /duf hint. I actually did try that once last night but it was late and I was like so I just moved on.

Somehow I've lost that chat loot frame. I tried running /fm again and just clicking the "Chat Frames" option but that didn't fix it. This behavior is what I'm talking about when I say I think some of the chat settings must be server side. Anyway, I'll blow away the Prat Saved Vars and try /fm again. Also I'm kind of thinking that it being lost isn't a horrible thing since I do need a location for Recount more than I need to know loot. <shrug>

Is adding/configuring a cast bar (like Quartz) beyond the scope? The Ice Hud versions just aren't working for me.

Also, and I know this might be more a personal preference, but I don't like Ice Hud always showing. I like it gone (or almost nearly gone) when OOC. And when in combat the bars are a bit too delicate looking. They need a bit more weight to them.

Lastly, I found some things I sorely missed last night that I think you could maybe add as and "Also Recommended" section at the end of your write-up. Limiting this to Questing and Instances so far I have: OmniCC, DBM, Mapster, Recount, SmartBuff, TomTom, and tullaRange.

EDIT:
Maybe it was a fluke but it seems that running /fm on a new toon with all options checked reset Dominos and Autobar for all my other toons. The other toons where I had just finished "fixing" Dominos and Autobar. Yucky.

Found Queue Status, Dungeon Difficulty, and Guild Group Flag were marked Hidden in MoveAnything. I feel these are important. Especially the Queue Status "eye" since it offers very useful options when right clicked. I unhided them all and set all but Queue Status to the left side of the minimap. Queue Status I moved over to the left of the Tracking button. I also moved the Mail button over that way too. This allowed me to move the TrinketMenu where the Mail button was. I couldn't find anything else in that area so hopefully I haven't covered up anything.
