Dynamic Loot Management System (DLMS)

Version: 1.1 Beta
by: Auz [More]

I started working on this addon (a version of it anyway) a long time ago when I got tired of constantly having to stop to sift through my bags. The original addon I wrote about 4 years ago allowed me to loot and run so to speak with no loot window to be seen, it just looted everything and I was on my way but, I still had to constantly stop to trash items so that I could keep going. I decided to expand on that idea about a year ago and this is what I came up with.

This is a complete loot management system. When you loot, it will look at an items Quality, Value, and Category (e.g. Trade Goods - Cloth) and determine whether or not to loot that item based on your options.

You can loot everything or nothing. If all you want to loot is Cloth, you can do that. Want to loot cloth and any Rares (blue items) that drop, you can do that too. DLMS is a very powerful looting tool.

Once installed and run for the first time, it will set itself up to loot everything to give it a chance to build it's category database (which it bases its category options from) so, it might be a little spammy at first but, the database will build very quickly and eventually, all you will see is the occasional message when it finds something new.

DLMS will also auto-sell any grey items with value upon visiting a vendor and if that vendor can repair, will also auto-repair your gear. There are options to turn these off.

DLMS can also be asked to auto-roll on green or blue items while grouped or auto-pass on all loot rolls.

Options Include:

  • Loot All and GO! - Tells DLMS to loot everything.
  • Disable DLMS - Disables the addon.
  • Use WoW Messages - Use WoW's standard chat messages when looting instead of DLMS messages.
  • Keep Loot Window Open - Keeps the loot window from auto-closing when DLMS has finished looting.
  • Auto Sell Junk - Auto Sell grey items with value from your bags.
  • Auto Repair - Auto Repair your gear while at a vendor that can repair. Will use guild funds first, player funds last. (have had no issues but, needs more testing)
  • Auto Roll Greed on Uncommon - will auto roll greed on green items while grouped.
    • Auto Roll on Rare - When checked, will also auto roll greed on blue items while grouped.
    • Auto Pass - Will pass on all loot rolls.
  • Loot by Value - Loot items of a certain value.
  • Loot by Quality - Loot items of a certain quality.
  • Loot by Category - Only loot items from a certain category such as Trade Goods - Cloth, etc.

Loot by Category may be a little confusing as it currently does not take Value and Quality into consideration and if selected, will loot an item in that category regardless. I am currently working on getting the Weapons and Armor categories to take value and quality into consideration when determining if it should loot that item unless the Value and Quality sliders are set to disabled.

I consider this project to still be in a beta state as it still needs some polish and a few enhancements with out going to far beyond the scope of its original purpose. DLMS's soul purpose is to help you manage your inventory and making the act of looting more efficient by allowing you to loot only what you want to loot without having to stop and "clean out your bags" as frequently.

All I can say is that, DLMS has become a mainstay in my addon arsenal and I can not play with out it. Give it a try, play with the options and I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.

Internet Problems

Hey all, I had lost my internet connection for a while and was unable to post anything but, internet is back up!

@Leishmania: Thank you and glad you enjoy using DLMS. The category options in 1.0 will only update after a game /reload, a downfall I have overcome in 2.0. Category options will now update on the fly without a reload.

As for DLMS 2.0, it was about finished when I lost internet. There are some things I need to finish up before I release it and now that I will have access to the game again, I can test and hopefully, it won't be to much longer.

Not building category lists

Great idea for an addon. I just have one issue, it won't build/populate categories for me. I downloaded it this morning and have played (and looted) with it over the last 3-4 hours. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I found the optional database download and so far it's working wonderfully! I also found a work around for the category system not taking quality into account. Disable all the armor and weapon choices in the category and set the quality to the desired threshold. This allows for armor and weapons to be looted based on quality instead. Again, outstanding addon

OK, I have managed to implement a "Loot Black List" and "Loot White List" and DLMS will also use these lists to determine on whether or not to loot (pick up) an item.

I have also taken this idea to another level and have also implemented an "Autosell Safe List" and "Autosell Ignore List". DLMS will also use these lists to determine on what it Autosells. (i decided to emplemented these after DLMS accidently sold a couple of BoE greens I was holding on to (which, selling BoE greens is another feature (only an option) I have added and been testing in the next major version release of DLMS)

These features and many more "improvements" will be available in DLMS's next update which will be a major version update to 2.0 since there have been a great many changes, additions, etc.

I was thinking about that... adding a black and white list, to pick up stuff you absolutely want regardless of settings and vice versa for things you don't, etc...

I'll play with it, see what I can do.

Thank you again for bringing that issue to my attention, since I don't run ArkInventory, I would never have known.

I am really glad that you enjoy it and that it works for you. I don't play without it and I hope you will recommend it to friends, etc.

That must have been it. Reinstalled Arkinventory and DLMS at the same time, killed a few things to get some grey's, and let them beat me up a bit, and then went to a merchant. BOOM, auto sold the greys and repaired my armor.

Awesome Job. Working like a charm. Can't see anything else wrong, but will let ya know if I find something, me and wife are doing multiple dungeons daily getting our skills up on our boosted 90's and we really only running for certain stuff. That is why this addon was so right Thanks.

Thank you very much for your effort, I really do appreciate it.

I will be installing ArkInventory to try to identify the conflict and I will post back here when I find out what it is and try to correct it.

EDIT:

I have found and corrected the issue and DLMS should now work as expected even with ArkInventory installed.

The issue was that for some reason while ArkInventory is loaded, "MerchantFrame:IsVisible()" always returns "nil" and since I was basing my determination on whether or not to run my auto repair/sell block on if MerchantFrame:IsVisible() and it always returned "nil", the block never got run. Since I was already only trying to run the block on the event "MERCHANT_SHOW", which meant I have interacted with the merchant and the merchant window should be open at this point, if(MerchantFrame:IsVisible()) was probably a little redundant so, I removed the offending statement and now DLMS functions as expected. I will be reporting the "bug/issue" to the author of ArkInventory as I am sure this behavior is not intended.

Thank you again for bringing this issue to my attention. I have already uploaded an update (1.1 Beta) and its currently pending but, should be available soon.

Auto Sell/Repair not Functioning

First of all, Thank you, I am glad that you like it... I am currently working on some improvements, etc and should be uploading an update soon.

As for DLMS not auto-repairing or auto-selling with options enabled, I can honestly say that I have not run into that issue. I run several different addons and so far, nothing conflicts.

Do you get any kind of an error message?
Do you have any other addons enabled that may auto-sell/repair? If you do and they get to it first, then DLMS has nothing to do.

But if you do suspect a conflict:
  1. Disable all your addons and only enable DLMS. If it's still not functioning correctly, then it is a problem with DLMS.
  2. If DLMS does work correctly at this point, start enabling addons one at a time until DLMS fails to auto-sell/repair. The last addon you enabled is probably conflicting.

If there is a conflict, please let me know and post the addons name so that I can try to resolve the conflict.

Initial ZIP file error corrected

The DLMS.lua and DLMS.toc files should now be correctly located in the corresponding top level FOLDER (e.g. DLMS) rather than top level themselves.

My appologies to those that have already downloaded. For those that have, Please create a folder under Interface\Addons called "DLMS" (without qoutes) and place "DLMS.lua" and "DLMS.toc" in it.
