Scrolling Combat Text  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 6.65

Please post all errors and suggestions on http://grayhoof.wowinterface.com/ using the provided forms.

Be sure to check out my simple but enhanced combat log EavesDrop

Also check out SCTD if you want SCT to show your damage.

What is it? - A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel.

What can it do?
- Damage messages
- Heals (incoming and outgoing) and Overhealing (with healer ID's), with filtering for small heals.
- Spell Damage/Resists and Damage Type
- All "Miss" events (dodge, block, immune, etc...)
- Custom Colors for all text events
- Config file to setup custom events (self and target), capture data, and display it.
- Debuff/Buff gain and loss Messages
- Low Health and Mana Warnings with values, and optional sounds
- Rage/Mana/Energy Gains
- Enter and Leave Combat Messages
- Rogue Combo Points, 5 CP Alert Message
- Class Skill alerts (Execute, Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...)
- Honor, Reputation, Skill Gain
- Eight Animation Types (Verticle, Rainbow, Horizontal, Angled Down, Angled Up, Sprinkler, Curved HUD, Angled HUD)
- Four Fonts
- Two seperate Animation frames, each with their own settings. Assign any Event to either.
- Ability to flag any event as critical or as a text messages
- Sliders for text size, opacity, animation speed, movement speed, and on screen placement (with custom editbox)
- Lightmode, for when you care most about performance (at the loss of a few features).
- Now Based in Ace3.
- Settings saved per character by default, but supports all Ace3 Profiles
- Load/Delete settings from another character. Load built in Profiles.
- Localized to work in almost all WoW clients.
How do I use it? - First unzip it into your interface\addons directory. For more info on installing, please read install.txt. Now just run WoW and once logged in, type /sctmenu to get the options screen.

SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA is used to setup custom message events. Please open up the file (notepad, etc...) and read the opening section to understand how to use it all.
PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FILE IN SCT. IF YOU DON'T READ IT AND USE IT, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A TON OF WHAT SCT HAS TO OFFER IN CUSTOMIZATION

/sctdisplay is used to create your own custom messages.
Useage:
/sctdisplay 'message' (for white text)
/sctdisplay 'message' red(0-10) green(0-10) blue(0-10)
Example: /sctdisplay 'Heal Me' 10 0 0 - This will display 'Heal Me' in bright red
Some Colors: red = 10 0 0, green = 0 10 0, blue = 0 0 10, yellow = 10 10 0, magenta = 10 0 10, cyan = 0 10 10

FAQ
How do I get My Crits or My Hits to show? I would suggest you get SCTD: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=4913

I don't understand what the 2 frames are for! - Each frame lets you set different features. So you can set frame one using Sprinker animation and Default font, while frame 2 can be using Veritcle animation and Adventure font. You can then assign each event to a specfic frame using the radio buttons next to the events.

There's too many options. Help someone new see how things work! - Try out some of the new built in profiles. While on the options screen, click the "Profiles" button. At the top of the window will be a listing of some default profiles to try out. Maybe you'll fine one you like or it will spark some ideas for you to try.

How do I change the fonts? - You can now select from many fonts on the options page. You can also change the font of message and apply the font to the in game damage font used for your damage (requires relog)

I don't like friendly nameplates on. How do I make my heals appear over who I heal? - Friendly nameplates have to be on in order to show your heals. SCT will turn them on if you turn on the option, but you must manually turn them off if you don't like it (see Target keybindings).

I don't like the new spell icons, how do I turn them off? - There is an option to turn them off under the spell tab.

I'm around again yes. Currently just making things "work"...not really concerned with new features as other mods have far surpassed mine now. Mainly just wanting to keep them usable for those that still like to use them.
OMG you LIVE! I don't know which Retadin used up their entire mana bar to resurrect you but they're my hero right now. I had just about given up as Mik's SCT type addon doesn't have the Arc style output that yours does, and its configuration was rather...daunting (great to have the option though).

Right now the only issue I'm seeing in the profile I use is that all heals show up as crits, regardless of whether or not they are in fact crits. I'm sure this has to do with the change to the heals in the combat log dealing with absorbs that Blizzard put in so Disco Ballin' Priests could more accurately track their absorb/heal ratios. I'm not suire, however if this is the issue reported below about output showing up at nameplates.

Oh, and about others having "surpassed" yours. Sometimes, simpler is better. This should be obvious by the sheer number of people that prefer this SCT addon to that of Blizzard and even Mik's (and I mean no offense there - complex addons are a PAIN to keep up and I give him great credit for his SCBT addon too).

Anywho, time to download! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

*giggle* *giggle* *giddy giggle*

There is a known issue with showing SCT at nameplates in 3.2. I have the work around in place, just need a bit more testing. If you are getting errors with it, turn off showing them at nameplates and reload your UI.

Mik's Scrolling Combat Text -- I personally think its better. You can set custom events with sounds and fonts very easily. In fact I replaced my hunter aspect mod with a couple of custom events to warn me about switching from Viper to Dragonhawk and it works beautifully.

One error I did find for 3.1, was getting 'Envenom!' popup when I was dead. It was obviously finding Deadly Poison for any old rogue cos of the new timing data we can all see.

Fix: sct_events.lua, line 350-352 should be changed from:
Code:
local name, rank, icon, count, dispelType, duration, timeLeft = UnitDebuff(unit, i)
if not name then break end
if name == spellName and timeLeft then
to:
Code:
local name, rank, icon, count, dispelType, duration, timeLeft, caster = UnitDebuff(unit, i)
if not name then break end
if name == spellName and caster == "player" then

Trigger script block from Customer Event Find.

(First off, I must say, the code sctructer and form is notably made, and love the produced out come of the app itself.)

Okay, so I am still learning the ropes and handling of LUA/WoW-Modded-LUA deal, but I spent several (x3) hours on trying to add this in myself, though it seems simple in concept, I was unable to successfully mod it in. What I am trying to do:

After a custom event has been triggered, much like adding text for a product, I am wanting to add a wee script too run, end resulting a displayed message.

The script I want to add is the following (in WoW Macro form, I did create this myself, and fully works for what it needs to do):

Code:
/script spd, oh = UnitAttackSpeed("player"); rs = format("%.2f", spd); rq = format("%.2f", oh); fi = format("%s  / %s", rs, rq); cr = {r=1,g=1,b=0}; bb = nil; SCT:DisplayText(fi, cr, 1, bb, SCT.FRAME1, bb, bb, bb);
Results in displaying my Weapon speed (call me ocd), which I am wanting to follow any attack speed change (Slice and dice, Lightning speed etc. - all which i already know how to set the triggers for, mind you) So I attempted to add it in the sct_event.lua (though using Runscript(".....")) with no luck.

Any insight?

The Quake sounds for PvP?

Feel really stupid asking this, know I'm missing something. In BC I know SCT had (I believe it is Quake anyway) sounds when you killed an enemy in PvP. For whatever reason they seem to have been switched off. Where they removed or am I just being really dull?

Ok so I got a question for anyone that knows how to do addons quite well.

Blizzard has added their SCT like function to the game. But I can't stand it 'cause the font is just ugly/grainy.

And I know Greyhoof set up SCT w/ the ability to do heals over nameplate similar to the way Blizzard has the heals over people set up. But the problem is it only work w/ nameplates on and only when you are close to them.

Does anyone know of a way to do the Blizzard way w/ SCT w/o the nameplates stuff? This would be an awesome little tweak.
