Recipe Book  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 3.3.2 BETA 2
by: ayradyss [More]
RecipeBook is a mod that allows you to browse tradeskill recipes with one alt and see whether your other alts know it.

************ PLEASE NOTE ******************

I apologize to everyone who's been with me for the last three and a half years (wow!) but I'm putting the addon on Inactive status. We are expecting our second baby Any Day Now and the lifestyle and financial changes that brings have forced me out - I don't have the time to maintain it and I'm barely logging into WoW as it is, so it doesn't make sense for me to try and spend what interest I can muster in the game into coding.

If someone wants to pick things up I will be happy to cede the addon over to someone else but I just can't do it.

Also: Your data WILL NOT carry over from old (prior to 3.0.2) versions.
****************************************

For example:
I have character BetsyRoss, who is a tailor by nature. She knows Pattern: American Flag, but for some reason, I can never remember this when UncleScrooge goes to the aucthouse to buy patterns.
* Previously, I would have to keep a written or mental list of BetsyRoss's known patterns so that UncleScrooge didn't buy her a second copy of Pattern: American Flag on accident.
* Now, with RecipeBook, UncleScrooge can mouse over Pattern: American Flag and see "Already known by: BetsyRoss" right there on the tooltip - or, if he chooses, in a special chat tab just for RecipeBook information.

It's fun! It's helpful! It's easy to use! It's also still in development, so there are a few known issues and some miscellaneous housework to be done.

RecipeBook is most easlily managed using the minimap button and integrated menus. However, there are some slash commands for those who prefer them:

Usage: /recipebook or /rbk or /rbook <options>
* General:
- /rbk help : Displays a help message
- /rbk on|off : Turns RecipeBook's data display on or off. It will continue to update alts' tradeskills when the tradeskill frames are opened, so you have the best list possible.
- /rbk config : Opens the graphical config window.
- /rbk skill: Open the skill browse window, which allows you to browse known recipes by character and tradeskill.

* Sharing:
- /rbk send <alt> to <player> : Sends your RecipeBook data for a given alt to another player. Use 'all' as your alt to send all alts you know. Use 'me' to send just your character.
- /rbk update from <player> : Requests an update of RecipeBook data from another player.

* Banking:
-/rbk bank : Displays your banked items and banking options

* Finding Recipes:
- /rbk search <item> : Searches for items containing the given string.
- /rbk searchmats <item> : Searches for items using materials which match the given string.

* Auction House Options (only available via /rbk config):
- Color Recipes based on status: This will shade the icons for recipes you see in the Auction House based on whether other alts can learn them.
- Default color scheme is as follows (in order of precedence):
- Normal : Current alt can learn the recipe
- Green : Another alt can currently learn the recipe
- Orange : Current alt is the only character who will be able to learn the recipe (requires /rbk self on)
- Cyan : Some alt or alts will be able to learn the recipe (may include current character)
- Red : No alt/alts will be able to learn the recipe, based on current data
- Dark Red : All available alts already know the recipe
- Blackout Banked Recipes: This will shade the icons for recipes that you have banked black in the Auction House so that you can tell you already have a copy.

* Debugging functions
- /rbk debug : Turns on debug mode
- /rbk verbose : Turns on verbose send mode.

Known issues:
* RecipeBook only updates its recipe list when your tradeskill window is open. So, if BetsyRoss just learned Pattern: Giant American Flag, she'll have to open her Tailoring window before RecipeBook (or UncleScrooge) knows about it.

Housekeeping:
* Hopes for next phase: Updating your recipe list when you learn items (in progress).

Compatibilities:
The easiest way to add RecipeBook compatibility to *your* mod is to call the following in your tooltip output:
RecipeBook_DoHookedFunction(tooltip, link);
Where tooltip is the tooltip (or tooltip name) you're using and link is the item link itself. That will add RecipeBook's data lines.

Special thanks to:
Curse Gaming's Pentarion and Ghandi, for some hard work helping me debug the German client version. Particularly to Pentarion for ongoing translation work.

PLEASE NOTE: If you learn a new recipe, you will have to open your appropriate tradeskill window to update RecipeBook's database. Hopefully this will change soon.
3.3.2:
- THIS VERSION WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. RecipeBook will clear its database on first loading - this means that EVERYTHING will need to be reloaded: character skills, cached items, everything. I'm having trouble with old (uncached) data again.
- THIS VERSION WILL RESET MOST OPTIONS. I made some changes for the color-coding customization.
FIXED:
- Guild Bank items should now tooltip correctly once again.
- Several small changes in the code should now clarify whether the "RecipeBook data not yet loaded" error stems from a blank DB or a lag concern, and help eliminate it recurring.
!NEW!
+ Color customization added: Check the "colors" tab in the RecipeBook UI for an option to change the colors of items and text.
+ If RecipeBook cannot quickly load all of your recipe/reagent data, it will now give you a popup message to that effect. Clicking "Accept" will attempt to force-load all of the tradeskill data.
- This replaces the "Some items were not scanned for this tradeskill" and "Some reagents for this tradeskill's items were not yet in local cache" messages that were previously in your chat frame.
- This scan may lag the UI intermittently; do not do it when you are doing things that are control-intensive.
- You have the option of clicking "Cancel" which will wait for the next time RecipeBook updates to check again.
- Doing this scan in Dalaran or other high-lag areas may require a little time. You will be updated periodically on the status of the deep scan.
BETA 2:
- THIS VERSION WILL RESET DEFAULT OPTIONS. Whoops, I didn't check my set defaults closely enough.
- TRANSLATIONS NEEDED: I have hacked a few lines and changed some others so that the non-English clients should stop erroring on popup.
- Tidied up the help messages to stop suggesting /rb when it doesn't work any longer :)
- When someone new shares data with you it should now show up without requiring a reload of the UI.
- Using the minimap icon to select a RecipeBook tab while the RecipeBook window is open now correctly loads that tab.

Recipe confusion

This addon used to be rock solid but now I'm being told I dont have recipes that I konw I have. I go back to the char.. check, and voila there it is. I resave with charprofiler the recipes and bank data, go back to the ah mule and am still told I dont have this or that recipe. That makes trusting the mod dangerous at best. Also I have mules where I've said DONT TRACK THIS MULE, and yet every bleeping ench recipe is showing "mule can learn". Sigh.

So what's the deal? Is this known and being worked on?

Also in the tooltips I hardly see the learnable etc.
Should I also see it in the 'window' when I click a recipe in the chatwindow?
I'm new to this addon, but found it strange that some recipes showed colored in ah and others didnt.
I'm experiencing the same issue, however I'm pretty sure it's a bug. I've been using this mod for quite awhile and it only started dropping information over the past few releases (so don't give up on it yet!).

The beta version would cause me to disconnect immediately upon login about 50% of the time. Perhaps there was some weird interaction with other mods? I'm going back to an old version. If there is any information I can supply that would help, please let me know.

=(

I've gone back to the last version. I got tired of the spam. It also never picked up lw,tailoring or cooking skills. I try the next up date. I hope it comes soon.

Is it "normal" to be spammed with chat messages every time I gain a skill up? For example, while leveling cooking on my lowbie, every skill up would generate a "Recipe book was unable to add reagents to the database... " or similar message. I could find nothing to disable this.

Also, the option for outputting RB data is not "sticking" unless you force it to be the default setting.

Quick fix

Can't promise this fixes all the bugs, but at least on a fresh install it no longer dies a screaming death. This is a 'd' patch, not a full bug fix version, as evidenced by the long list of remaining known bugs. Thanks for the patience y'all.

2.1.0d:
FIXED:
- German AH error (thanks to ArtureLeCoiffure)
- /rb and /rbk are both valid abbreviations.
- Version now reporting correctly again.
- RecipeBookGlobals. "next realm" error fixed.
- Fixed Auction Checkboxes in /rb config
- German translation should be working...
- Now correctly scanning for specializations.
KNOWN BUGS:
- If you have an item both in bags and in bank on the same character (i.e. two recipes), one or the other may not display properly as banked. I'm trying to figure out why.
- Formulas for Unholy Weapon and Weapon Might and Frostweave Robe do not match properly yet. Any others? I'm making a list.
- A small handful of recipes do not seem to bank properly. I have not been able to test this yet (Truesilver Boar, Cindercloth Gloves, Tough Scorpid Gloves, Small Seaforium Charge)
- "Show" checkbox is not working correctly on /rb skill.
- RecipeBook Tab is being stubborn and showing/hiding itself inappropriately, or not creating itself.
- Automatic unbanking of items and unlearning of skills may not be quite right yet.

2.1.0c

OK - made a bunch of bug fixes and figured I was way out of sync with you guys. Here's 2.1.0c interim version.

2.1.0c:
FIXED:
- Now saving ScriptErrors data before setting it for RB debug
- Nil error for LastDBUpdate should be fixed
- German Client: 'invalid capture index' error fixed
- Re-streamlined tradeskill scanning yet again to try and make sure updates happen when they need to.
- Fixed 'pairs' error in RecipeBookBanking
- Fixed 'attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)' in line 494 on requesting RB share data.
- Opposite-faction alts will now display correctly (i.e. only when "show opposite faction" is checked).
- Fixed somewhat complex internal references leading to some obscure errors (local != global)
- Fixed color-coding of alts (math.fmod(21, 10) = 1, duh)
- Beast Training working smoothly.
- Frostweave Robe seems to work correctly now.
NEW:
- Inserting links with Alt+Click will generate the gold "Tradeskill: item" links with materials included. Shift+Click still retains the original item links. I am open for debate over what the most appropriate use of gold links vs original links/tooltips is.
- When you mouse over a recipe in /rb skill you will see the item link with materials required on the right side of the skill window.
KNOWN BUGS:
- Formulas for Unholy Weapon and Weapon Might do not match properly yet. Any others?
- "Show" checkbox is not working correctly on /rb skill.
- RecipeBook Tab is being stubborn and showing/hiding itself inappropriately, or not creating itself.
- Automatic unbanking of items and unlearning of skills may not be quite right yet.
- Sending files to Pentarion for translation for German client...

2.1.0b has fixed most of the errors that I had seen with previous versions. Thanks!

[Formula: Enchant Weapon - Unholy] still displays Unknown for an alt that knows it.

Some recipes do not display any recipebook data on their tooltip at all even though one of my alts knows it (and I can see it on the /rb skill list)
[Schematic: Parachute Cloak]
[Pattern: Runed Stygian Belt]
Likely more...

On the 2.1.0a BETA version I have an issue with enchanting recipes when i check AH with another character.
On some recipes it says "can be learned" although I already learned them.
When I check the database of RecipeBook on my enchanting character I see all learned recipes are there but somehow the recipes don't show up as "learned" when I see the recipes on another character.

Recipes that don't show up as learned:

Formula: Enchant Bracer - Deflection
Formula: Enchant Bracer - Superior Stamina
Formula: Enchant Chest - Minor Mana
Formula: Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism
Formula: Enchant Shield - Frost Resistance
Formula: Enchant Shield - Intellect
Formula: Enchant Shield - Stamina
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Demonslaying
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Fiery Weapon
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Lifestealing
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Unholy
Formula: Enchant 2H Weapon - Major Intellect
Formula: Enchant 2H Weapon - Major Spirit

..... there are probably more, but these are the ones I can see in AH now.

Good luck with this very nice addon !
