Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.

INSTALLATION:
--------------
Extract the data to your "World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns" directory so that the "Gatherer" directory is a subdirectory of the "AddOns" directory.


USAGE:
--------------
Just use the game as normal.
When you gather things, they will appear on your minimap and your main map.
If you want to configure the addon, click the Gatherer configuration icon floating around your minimap frame or type /gather options.

Slash Commands
/gather minimap (on|off|toggle) - controls the minimap tracking functionality
/gather mainmap (on|off|toggle) - controls the world map tracking functionality
/gather dist <n> - sets the minimap tracking distance to this number of units. (in game yards)
/gather num <n> - sets the maximum number of items to display (default=20, up to 50)
/gather herbs (on|off|toggle) - select whether to show herb data on the minimap")
/gather ore (on|off|toggle) - select whether to show mining data on the minimap")
/gather treasure (on|off|toggle) - select whether to show treasure data on the minimap")
/gather options - show the configuration dialog

Don't know if i'm the only one, i surely hope not. But i discovered a strange issue with Gatherer enabled while Fishing.

After about 5-10 Fish Caught, WoW gets FPS Drops as soon as you catch a Fish. Ive been enabling and disabling addons and it only happens when Gatherer is enabled.

The FPS drop is only a fraction of a second and only happens once the loot has been put in the bag. But it gets worse every fish caught and in the end also affecting other gameplay.

Anyone got a clue?

i found a few of the more compact digs would be pretty tough to differenciate a few nodes... btw... dig sites can also repeat (6 gatherers in same dig)... given that you can get the names of your current digs and store which dig is what type you can easily pop up only active nodes on minimap

i know its out of the scope of this addon but...
possible addition would be an overlay showing where green, yellow, (and mayby red) could be, on your minimap, based on what direction your facing. that automatically locks after more then a few steps of movement, fades on next survey or after 30 seconds

Not only twice, I just hit an archaeology node three times in the -exact- same spot in a row. Not even a pixel's difference in placement. They're definitely pre-placed nodes.

I stopped using Gatherer long ago but I would begin using it again if it tracked Archaeology nodes.

Actually it seems pretty straightforward. Archaeology fragments spawn in random locations (same as other gathering professions), but those locations are always in fixed positions, not anywhere in an area (again like other gathering professions).

The green/yellow marker tells you in which direction to know, it would be very useful if gatherer would mark on the minimap where the fragment can be.

the archeology nodes dont appear random, just a "mini zone" subset, otherwise it would be virtually impossible to get 2 nodes in a row on top of each other (happened a few times now and not just to me, check wowhead comments)

since the currency is only obtained from the harvest itself (no dailys or bags of swag or anything) data shouldnt be corrupt. it does trigger these events:
LOOT_OPENED,LOOT_SLOT_CLEARED,CHAT_MSG_LOOT
and not these, BAG_UPDATE, CHAT_MSG_MONEY
unfortinatly no actual arguements are passed on so to properly track this you would have to record the before and after picture of the currency

its obvious which ruins correspond to which type of dig... dwarf or ancienty titan areas are dwarf, troll ruins are obvious, elf ones also pretty easy, and leftovers are fossil, regardless, they are again probably a constant subset.

FINALLY to the good part. to get which digsites are active for the current continent use this code snipit, note archeology icon is texture index 177

I've been keeping track of nodes by hand somewhat and there are definitely pre-determined location to the nodes.

Knowing where those possible locations are WOULD be useful because the direction of the survey tools has a random element.

Due to the unique in-game mechanics, it (Archaeology) is something that is being investigated, but since there are likely hundreds of spawn points in tiny areas, with only a relative few available to a given character, it is sort of up in the air, until some details can be worked out.

Gatherer Mining Issue

There's currently an issue with gatherer not picking up mining nodes in WoW 4.0.3a since the nodes have been renamed.
This might be due to the fact that I'm playing on a german server using a german game client.

Holy Cataclysm, Batman!!

Gatherers,

From the Gatherer Lead developer:

"The Cataclysm is here, and the world has changed forever, but... the patch has come a week sooner than I had planned for and, quite frankly, Gatherer isn't ready for the change. Sorry!

There will be an update for Gatherer, to make it work correctly with the post-Cataclysm world and the new expansion content within the next week. I apologize for not having it ready for patch day, but that's just the way things have gone.


You have two options:

- Disable Gatherer until the next update is released (by the end of the month)
- Continue to use Gatherer and just ignore the warning message about unknown zones. The only downside to this is that any nodes you record in the old world between now and updating to the next version will be wiped because the new version will not be able to distinguish between them and the old, now invalid, data.

If you continue to use Gatherer, you can safely ignore the large warning message that will appear in the bottom right of your screen. Please also forgive the spam that Astrolabe will spit out in your chat window. Gatherer will continue to work correctly in both Outlands and Northrend until the next update."


We will post a notice once it is ready.

Server Migration Fun!

Gatherers,

For those that visit our sites, know that our much-anticipated Server migration is tentatively scheduled to begin this weekend, 06 November 2010. Our main sites and services will be affected, such as the Auctioneer, Gatherer, Enchantrix, Wiki, and Jira.
