Fishing Buddy  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.4b
by: Sutorix [More]
Fishing Buddy
-------------

Yet another fishing support add-on.

Support thread: Fishing Buddy

Features:
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or
the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole
- Full Titan Panel support
- myAddOns support
- Preliminary support for tracking 'cycle fish' such as the Nightfin
Snapper so you know when to go looking for them

Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb
toggle the display of the Fishing Buddy window
/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back

There are two actual add-ons -- the second one, OutfitDisplayFrame,
handles the pretty pane to set up your fishing outfit (it's next on
the list to be made into something more general that anyone can use).
The OutfitDisplayFrame addon can be safely left out if you have a
preferred equipment manager.

alt-clicking on an item in your outfit display will clear it

Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit,
it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ
Updated from duplicate postin: HERE.
Check there for updates if this falls behind.

Thanks to the authors of:

TackleBox -- still adding cool features to keep up with!
Impp's Fishing DB
QuickWeaponSwap

and many, many others!

Feel free to send comments to Sutorix on the Windrunner server.

Installation
------------

1. Unzip the 'FishingBuddyVERSION.zip' file
2. If your unzip program allows you to specify a location, then
unzip it into the "Interface/AddOns" folder contained in your
WoW folder (the location that WoW was installed)
3. If your unzip program doesn't let you specify the destination,
then find your WoW folder (where it was installed) and drag
the 'FishingBuddy' and 'OutfitDisplayFrame' folder into the
'Interface/AddOns' folder.
Version 1.4b
- Get my act together with respect to watch window location (thanks Grizzly_UK!)

Version 1.4a
- More work on keeping the watcher visible and onscreen (using LibWindow)
- Handle version changes and per-player settings correctly
- Fix an issue with LibTourist where it doesn't check for esMX

Version 1.4
- Updated German translation (thanks DirtyHarryGermany!)
- Attempted fix for 64-bit crash bug (#227) by using PLAYER_ALIVE
- Remove invalid frame reference in watcher window (Curse #229)
- Add "/fb fishdata reset" to clear out all fish location data (#127)
- More work on the watcher frame to try and make it stay on screen all the time

Clicking the minimap icon does not switch into my fishing outfit, but it does show that the fishing outfit is checked in Outfitter. So I have to uncheck it and check it again manually, or simply not use the FB icon in the first place, which is one of the main reasons I like it.

My reason for posting it was to show you can still find a working "Fishing Buddy -- Outfit Display" here on WoWInterface.
It is in fact still the most up-to-date version (same one you find on curse: 0.9.9b).

In "Fishing Buddy -- Bar Support" some libraries of FB_Broker are updated in 0.9.9e2 (the one on curse) and FuBar_FishingBuddyFu is removed.
But FB_Broker from the 0.9.9c pack still works fine.
FB_InfoBar and FB_Titan are unchanged in the 0.9.9e2 release.

I've no idea about the changes in FB_MergeDatabase because i don't use it and i wonder how many people need or use that function to merge the FB database when playing on more than one machine with the same account.

You're right, it's best to use the most updated versions, but the ones here aren't that outdated you can't use them and they're certainly not broken.
I've played all day with the 3 FB parts i mentioned in my previous post and found no issues at all.

I also prefer WoWInterface above Curse, simply because i often have problems when downloading files from Curse (too many times they're incomplete and i need to download them again) and here it always works fine.

But his last 2 uploads here only contain the main part "FishingBuddy".

You can still get all here on WoWInterface when you download:

- Fishing Buddy 0.9.9d 411kB 11-14-2010

from the Archived Files page, which in fact is: FishingBuddy-v0.9.9c-Full (Download here)

Very confusing because there's also a

- Fishing Buddy 0.9.9d 185kB 11-26-2010

on that same page and it doesn't mention the first one is a full package.

Replace FishingBuddy from v0.9.9c-Full with v0.9.9e3 (or newer) and you've got it all.

I only use "FB_Broker", "FB_OutfitDisplayFrame" and "FishingBuddy" and they work fine.
Sadly the Bar Support, Outfit Display, and Merge Data have all been updated as well since the 0.9.9c pack. It's pretty much that right now if you want the most updated versions of FB and it's plugins, you need to get them from Curse. There are a LOT of changes and fixes for Cata not to mention he's trying to make it more 'frame rate friendly'. I'm not exactly happy about it, but I'd rather have an updated mod than a broken one, and the older versions of FB are just that, broken. Eventually he'll update here, probably once the v0.9.9e4 is out of Beta, but he doesn't seem too keen on keeping up with two sites. That's his choice, and it's understandable. As much as I can't stand curse, I'll go where I need to for good mods.

Some time ago I know he pulled out the "outfit" pane that used to come default with the addon. You can somewhat get around it by using the built in blizzard Equipment Manager:

- open character pane
- click icon in upper right, hovering over it shows "Equipment Manager"
- Click "save" and name your current outfit. (my DK has both a Tank and DPS set of gear.) Be sure to re-save the outfit every time you upgrade a piece of equipment.
- Click the arrow next to each slot. Use the ignore feature for everything but fishing equipment (pole, hat, etc).
- click save again and rename outfit to something like "Fishing" or "Fish" (I named mine Fishing and it somewhat works, but it will only equip one way, won't switch back to non-fishing gear)

If you have something like ItemRack or Outfitter it's pretty much the same thing. Make a "Fishing" outfit and FB sees it. I think a friend of mine uses Item Rack and has no problems swapping his outfit back and forth like I do.

Either way, I'd really like to have the ability to swap back OUT of my fishing stuff without having to do it manually without needed to get yet another addon.

**Update**

He pulled the FB Outfit Display Frame out of FB itself, made it a separate addon, and never bothered to upload it here to WoW Interface. He also doesn't check the comments here it seems, only pays attention to Curse.

Fishing Buddy - Outfit Display @ Curse
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...ad/472556.aspx

Fishing Buddy - Bar Support @ Curse
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...ad/472555.aspx

**Update 2**

There is an EBA version in the "other files" area that has the complete mod, however it's not been updated since Jan 2010 so might not work. Addon Author says he's working on a 'classic' version for those of us who want the 'all in one' option again, but no telling when he'll have the time to get it out.

In the meantime, he has a full 'addon pack' posted on Curse that shows FB and all it's 'plugins':

Complete Fishing Buddy Addon Package @ Curse
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/packs/2567/default.aspx

My hope is that he'll bring all those files over here to WoWUI so we don't have to bounce between both sites.

Also, many of the issues that folks have reported about, not just the Outfit problems, were all resolved after I added the Outfit Display Frame plugin. Don't know why that makes any real difference, but it does.

There was also a time where if you double clicked the bobber to reel in the fish, you'd recast and not loot. It's pretty easy to just do a "click, pause, double click" routine.

There has to be a hardware event for the cast to happen. If you click easy cast in the options though, you just need to double click the water to recast.

Outfit Swap?

After being gone from WoW for awhile, FB is one of the few addons I've found I actually miss. Everything seems to work fine.. except the outfit switcher. With the new Equipment Manager I see no need for mods like ItemRack anymore and in the FB options selected the EM as the outfit switcher. In EM I have a "Fishing" outfit that's only my fishingpole and hat, ignoring everything else. After I change the minimap icon to "Click to Switch", I can use it to equip my fishing outfit, but when I click again, it doesn't swap back to what I was wearing before putting my fishing gear on.

Is this working as intended or a bug? It used to swap in and out of fishing gear back when the outfitdisplayframe came with FB.

Seem to be missing two features

There seem to be two features that I'm missing now when I use FishingBuddy.
  1. I use to be able have FB put out a random pet when I fish. I can't find that choice in the options page anymore.
  2. FB used to tell me how many fish I'd caught since the last time I had a skill up. Since my DK is now at 357 fishing, this gets to be important.

Any idea about these? Did they go away? Do I have something misconfigured?

Thanks,
-Torin

An interesting changelog from the SVN/dev build of Auctioneer I'm using/testing you might want to look into for future revisions of FishingBuddy.

Its build 5030 of Enchantrix here from today (Dec. 1). You only get to see the changelogs using a SVN client, of course: fixes [ENX-137] add safety code to our tooltip handler to avoid problems with malformed tooltips from the FishingBuddy addon.

The FishingBuddy v0.9.9e betas on Curse attempt to address that problem. A shame he doesn't put them up here as well.

- FB_Titan --> Titan Panel
- FuBar_FishingBuddyFu --> FuBar

For more info about LDB addons check here.

So if you don't use any of these 3 bar/display addons, it's pointless to install them.
FB_Broker covers all three. No need for the zoo.
