Perl Classic Unit Frames

What is Perl Classic?
Perl Classic Unit Frames are a complete rewrite of the original mods by Perl. They replace the default Player, Pet, Target, Target of Target, Party, and Party Pet frames and add dedicated frames for many other units (Focus, Focus Target, Party Target, Target of Target of Target). It has been a high priority to maintain the look and feel or the original Perl mods while expanding functionality. The mod has been recoded for performance and is built around the Blizzard UI usage of events.

Q&A
-----
Q: I'm seeing double party buffs for some reason, what gives?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by CT_PartyBuffs. Simply remove the mod and you will return to having one set of party buffs.
Q: I am having massive dead spots for clicking on some of the unit frames, what's wrong?
A: This can be caused by a number of mods, but the most common seems to be CT_MovableParty. Please remove this mod as Perl can be moved without the use of this mod.
Q: The default party frames are showing up with red lightning bolts. What's going on?
A: As of version 1.503 of CT_RaidAssist this should no longer be caused by CTRA. The settings for this are now located in the WoW settings under Interface Options -> Basic -> Raid -> Hide Party Interface.
Q: Do you support ArcaneBar?
A: Yes, it is included in your download of Perl Classic.
Q: Will you be adding any features to Perl_PlayerBuff?
A: No, my coding for this mod goes as far as making sure it 'works.' If anyone would like to expand upon it, feel free to do so.
Q: Where are the raid frames?
A: As of 2.0 I no longer code raid frames for Perl Classic. Luckily, X-Perl's raid frames work great alongside Perl Classic. X-Perl's raid frames (and the unit frames themselves) can be found here: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/
Q: The scaling is all messed up! What do i do?
A: I recommend setting the scale to that of the UI if you are having issues. Open the options menu via "/perl" or the Black Pearl icon on the minimap and set the scale accordingly under the "All" tab.
Q: I am having an issue not listed in this FAQ, what can I do?
A: First, update *every* mod. I do not support ancient outdated and unmaintained mods. If you have double checked that everything is up to date, post on any of the Perl Classic mod pages and I'll be glad to help you narrow down the issue or give suggestions to help find a solution.
Q: Can you add this feature?
A: I'm sure it's possible, but the primary purpose of this mod is to 'modernize' the original Perl mod so that it doesn't slow your game down.

If you manually drag a frame, it should update it's position in blizzard's frame location file. Try dragging the frame in question to a random place before using any frame alignment/loading buttons.

Originally posted by Kushana How does one disable the focus window? I've found reference to a disable list in the release notes, but I can't find such a thing either in the in-game interface or in the file directories.
The easiest way to is to type "/focus" when you have no target. Other than that, most macros will clear the focus target when its conditions are not met.

@Theobillroth: Unfortunately, this is a Blizzard issue. All unit frames mods share this annoyance. If you want to unfocus a target, have nothing targeted and type "/focus".
@gantonski: I stopped looking at memory usage of other similar mods a long time ago. I do know though that X-Perl and Perl Classic go about things in 2 different ways. When you log into WoW, Perl Classic eats up all the memory it needs right then and not during combat. X-Perl (and Pitbull) like to log in with the smallest possible footprint and use memory as it needs it, which is fine, just not my style. Anyway, yes, the target frame supports changing the size of buffs (not very well, I coded that buff size changing first in the mod and it leaves a lot to be desired, the party frame buff resizing is done correctly at least. The bottom line is though, choose a mod you are happy with for its looks, not its code. Most unit frame mods these days are more than ok and just need to fit your looks.
I was a dedicated user of X-Perl, but it was quite a memory hog. i have just a couple questions...
1) Does perl classic offer much less memory usage?
2) Does perl classic contain (to be most specific) target buff/debuff size changing?
i'm now using ag_uf and the buff options for that are not at all what i'm looking for. its making arenas very annoying when i cant quickly view a player's buffs or see what debuffs one has.

thats what happens every time i rightclick my target and click set focus. the /focus function is working however.
and offtopic q: how do i stop focusing a target? :P
edit: found in previous posts that its tained, but is it fixable? i mean its annoying to write /focus everytime u want to focus on something, when u can just 2 clock it normally

@blackwater: No, the player frame still has no buff/debuff display so the options aren't applicable. This isn't the case in the going on 2 years and will be a miracle if it is ever released version. Pipe dreams are fun to have though.
@gedrus: I honestly have no plans to tweak the rune bar. There are some nice dedicated mods for that which will do a much better job than I ever will.
I did not notice a previous post about this, so I am sorry if it has been covered. The Runebar for Deathknights is right below the Player frame. This is fine, but I wouldn't mind being able to detach the runebar and place it below my character with the combat display. It would be great if it was an option for the combat display in some fashion as well. Perhaps I can use another addon to do this that is compatible with Perl? RuneMover maybe?
I have a question. I noticed that when I am grouping, I can see my groups buffs on their party unit frames...but I cannot see the buff durations...I have to mouse over the buff to see how much time is left. However, if I target the party member, the target unit frame shows that cool shadow-timer-thingy on the buff so I can visually see how much time is left. Is it possible to enable the shadow-timer-thingy's on the buffs located on the party unit frames? I hope this makes sense!
Thanks!!
Easy enough, this will be in the next version. If you are using a mod like OmniCC, you will need to make sure that the buffs/debuffs in question are big enough to trigger that mod to display the time left text.

Originally posted by goliath0 Perl is great, but as a healer, I'd like to have "fat" health bars option, it's just better for the eyes to have them thicker. I've edited target's .xml, but it's kinda clumsy.
It would also be cool to be able to somehow highlight/whatever the buffs/debuffs I can dispell (magic).
Fat bars aren't coming, sorry. Being able to only show curable debuffs or your own personal debuffs on targets will be.
Originally posted by Tatterotts Oh, and I've always noticed your code is pretty rock solid compared to other mods that I've used
I wish I could say the same about my code. Knowing exactly where all the terribly 3am coded spots are and complete lack of planning 3 years ago really show if you muck around in the code as much as I do. I still would really like to release the full rewrite version, but time just doesn't seem to be on my side at all lately. Those daring can get it here:
I haven't logged into wow in more than a few months, but last I checked, this version "shouldn't" error out (it's also just player/target frames and /pc is the slash command).
