Click here to lend your support!

telic@hotmail.co.uk

Compatible with QuestHelper v0.46 and later

Includes Maps for Instances, Battlegrounds, & World Bosses, and the major non-Instance Cave systems

Basically, AlphaMap is a scalable, moveable, transparent WorldMap that the user can have on screen while they continue to play and interact with the world.

Move the AlphaMap by holding down Control & Alt keys, and moving via the yellow movement bars at the top and bottom of the map.

Supported by PartySpotter, and MozzFullWorldMap(Fan's Update).

Native support for MapNotes, Gatherer, MetaMapNotes, CTMapMod, FlightMap, AtlasLoot, and NotesUNeed

See Patch Notes / Change History for specific details of functional changes/bug fixes

FEATURES NOT TO MISS

- World Map replacement mode via the 'Mouse Interaction' checkbox in the Miscallaneous Tab of the Options. ALT-Clicking on the AlphaMap will allow you to zoom in/out via left/right clicks. Without the <Alt> key pressed, then AlphaMap will remain invisible to the mouse as per current functionality.

- World Map 'Compact' veiwing mode, which will trim the world map, and only show explorable areas; so that keeping the map up on screen uses even less space.
The 'Standard'/'Compact' veiwing modes can be switched via a key binding.
NOTE : A side affect of this will mean that characters won't see areas they haven't discovered yet. If you would like to use Compact viewing mode, but STILL be able to see ALL areas in the current Map, you will need to install 'MozzFullWorldMap (Fans Update)'

- Special Battlefield options for reporting positions and incoming. (Note that the Raid Group numbered icons in the pictures are only available with the 'PartySpotter' AddOn installed)

FEATURES IN MORE DETAIL

High Quality Instance Maps :
lots of options allowing you to change the scale, alpha, the display of notes, note backgrounds, map background, Instance Header and Footer information, instance legend, the ability to change the colour of the note and/or map backgrounds.
Compatible with the latest versions of AtlasLoot (v1.60 and later). Atlas not required if you need to save memory.
Instance settings are saved separately to the World Map settings, so you don't have to change the way AlphaMap is displayed every time you enter/exit an Instance.
Or, save all Instance map settings separately allowing you to have different Instance maps set to different sizes, etc. Uncheck the box on the 'Dungeons' tab of the Options frame.

High Quality BattleGround Maps :
Minimap textured maps of Battlegrounds displaying all player units, and Battleground flags/objectives.
In Warsong Gulch, extra flag icons record which players have picked up which flags. Left click on a flag to target the carrier. Right click the flag to bring up a menu allowing you to report the flag's position to Raid/Party/General chat.
In Arathi Basin, the number of bases required to win is displayed next to your Faction's entry point. When ever the number of bases you need to win changes, a message is sent to your chat box to inform you of this. If you have the Scrolling Combat Text AddOn installed, then this message will also be displayed in the center of the screen. Right click on bases to report the number of incoming enemy to Raid/Party/General chat.
In Alterac Valley, Right click on bases to report the number of incoming enemy to Raid/Party/General chat.
As per all AlphaMap maps, the scale, alpha, and position of the maps can be changed and will be saved separately from the World Map settings or the Instance map settings.
Or, save all Battleground map settings independantly from each other allowing you to show the large Alterac Valley map at a smaller scale than the small Warsong Gulch map - Uncheck the box on the 'Battlegrounds' tab of the Options frame.

World Boss Maps & Instance Exteriors Caves :
For example, maps for Gnomeregan dungeon (before you enter the Instance), Dire Maul exterior, and Maraudon Exterior; And zoomed minimap style maps for the World Bosses Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, and all 4 of the Four Dragons. All these maps are capable of displaying player units, and all save their settings spearately from each other, and from the World, Instance and Battleground maps.

All the above maps have AlphaMap notes detailing key locations, mobs, etc. These notes can be clicked to do one or more of the following :
Left Click
- If the note leads to another map, then that map will be displayed. e.g. links between LBRS/UBRS/BWL, DM maps, etc.
- If the note has Loot noted for it, a small gold coin will be displayed next to it, and left clicking will show the AtlasLoot frame
Righ Click will raise a menu with several possible options
- You can leave a particular map note highlighted
- In Battlegrounds, there are special options for reporting the number of enemy incoming on a base, or the location of a flag carrier
- If you have NotesUNeed installed, then you can open a NotesUNeed note, or Send the NotesUNeed note text to your Raid/Party/Guild. i.e. store the tactics for a particular boss in a NotesUNeed note, and then send those tactics to your Raid via the right click menu for that boss on the AlphaMap

Sorry, if that's not detailed enough, but I really don't have time to do a point-by-point spreadsheet comparison You'll just have to read ALL the notes on both AddOns yourself, or download them and "suck it and see"
Haha! I hope Alphamap isn't as inaccurate as those two statements were. You seem to know A LOT about metamap, and I couldn't have asked for a better comparison.

I'm really looking forward to playing with your add-on. Great work!

First of all, love this addon. It beats metamap hands down.

Any way to get the zone name to show when hovering over?

Re: a

AlphaMap does show Party/Raid/Battleground Team members on the map. (Make sure you have the Raid Pins check box checked on the General Tab of the Options - otherwise only your Party is shown, even when in a Raid/Battleground)

If you want different Raid group players to have differently numbered/coloured icons on the map, then you need the PartySpotter AddOn.

http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/a...tyspotter.html

PartySpotter puts the group numbers on player icons on the WorldMap, Battlefield Minimap, AlphaMap, or MetaMap.
(Or you can highlight groups in different colours. Or just highlight your party in one colour, and other raid members in one other colour.)
People not in your Party/Raid are left with the default yellow dot icons.

It also lets you highlight people in your Guild, Friends, Ignores, Raid leaders and individual players you specify ;D

Comparison

Well first of all, there should be no reason you can't install both; I haven't heard of any compatibility issues.

I don't use MetaMap, so I'm not an expert on all its options, etc. but it is basically a modified version of the existing in-game World Map that you can change the scale and alpha settings for. Anyway, it has become quite large because it offers a lot of functionality, as it has absorbed other AddOns like WoWKb and MapNotes. So if you need one of these AddOns that MetaMap has incorporated into itself such as WoWKb, then you will need to get MetaMap. The same goes for MapNotes; I still use MapNotes(Beta) v1800.7 without any problems, and CTMapMod and Cosmos have MapNoting capabilities, but MetaMap is another way to go.

AlphaMap has not incorporated other AddOns in to itself. It is compatible with the display of MapNotes, CTMapMod, MetaMapNotes, Gatherer Icons, and FlightMap Icons, but you will need those other AddOns installed to see them, so you can pick and choose which AddOns you want to install rather than all or nothing.

AlphaMap is just about improving how you view the WorldMap and offering maps of Instances/Battlegrounds/etc. I think it was designed by the original author to be kept on screen while you play, but I mainly now use the hot spot to flick the map up briefly for reference. AlphaMap doesn't suffer the short lag pauses when opening and closing that the WorldMap does, even before MetaMap has added all its bells and whistles, so using the Hot Spot to show the map is instant, and I've been quite careful to ensure there won't be any lag if you play with the AlphaMap showing constantly. Also, AlphaMap has a compact viewing mode which removes all the extra blank map areas surrounding the zone you are currently in. e.g. when you are in the Barrens, the World Map will show Duratore/Mulgore/etc. to either side, but the Compact viewing mode in AlphaMap means only the Barrens will be displayed.

MetaMap includes Instance maps, but AlphaMap has Instance maps, Battleground maps, and extra maps for non-instance dungeons, and World Bosses.
AlphaMap has many more options for configuring how you display these Raid maps. e.g. show/hide notes, show/hide map backgrounds, set the colour/alpha of the map backgrounds, set the colour/alpha of the note backgrounds, show hide the map header/footer/key.
(AlphaMap has lots of notes on the instances that can be shown or hidden, but these are static in the same way that Atlas notes are.)
MetaMap can store a couple of different viewing modes that you can switch between (although this never worked for me in testing and the World Map would simply disappear and not come back). However, in AlphaMap every map can be configured differently and remember how you set it up. So when you play in AB or Warsong, you want the map set to one scale, and don't need the map Key, but in Alterac Valley, you need to show it at a different scale, but in Instances you want them shown at another scale altogether and make sure the Map Key is showing, etc., etc. In other words maps remember how you left them so you won't have to change these settings every time you go in/out of different instances/battlegrounds/raid maps.

AlphaMap has extra Battlegound options to show who the Flag carriers are in Warsong allowing you to target them and report where they are, and other options to report incoming enemies in AB and AV. Also reports the number of bases required to win in AB.

All non-instance maps in AlphaMap can show player positions, including the Gnomeregan/Maraudon caves.

Oh, and AlphaMap can now be used as a serious alternative to the World Map by checking the "Enable Mouse Interaction" check box on the Miscallaneous Tab of the Options. This will allow the user to Ctrl-Click on the AlphaMap to zoom in and out of different zones/continents just as they do on the World Map; But while the <Ctrl> key is NOT pressed, then the AlphaMap is invisible to the mouse as per standard functionality, allowing you to click on mobs/objects/etc. through the map.

Sorry, if that's not detailed enough, but I really don't have time to do a point-by-point spreadsheet comparison You'll just have to read ALL the notes on both AddOns yourself, or download them and "suck it and see"

It already encompasses five or six separate add-ons with all sorts of knowledge base and information sharing functionality. I'm not asking which is better, since I'm sure they're both excellent; I'm just trying to find out what the key differences are.

Localisation

I'm willing to put in extra work to localise this AddOn if people are willing to send me translations, and help me by giving detailed descriptions of problems they have on different clients/servers

There is always a trade off between how simple you make an AddOn in order to make it compatible with lots of Clients and easy to localise, and between how complex it is in order to offer lots of features and make it highly configurable.... Obviously I have chosen to try and make my AddOns feature rich with lots of options, but if anyone is willing to put the effort in and work with me on localised versions then I'm ready and able
