AlphaMap
v3.76.30100
telic@hotmail.co.uk
Compatible with QuestHelper v0.46 and later
Includes Maps for Instances, Battlegrounds, & World Bosses, and the major non-Instance Cave systems
Basically, AlphaMap is a scalable, moveable, transparent WorldMap that the user can have on screen while they continue to play and interact with the world.
Move the AlphaMap by holding down Control & Alt keys, and moving via the yellow movement bars at the top and bottom of the map.
Supported by PartySpotter, and MozzFullWorldMap(Fan's Update).
Native support for MapNotes, Gatherer, MetaMapNotes, CTMapMod, FlightMap, AtlasLoot, and NotesUNeed
See Patch Notes / Change History for specific details of functional changes/bug fixes
FEATURES NOT TO MISS
- World Map replacement mode via the 'Mouse Interaction' checkbox in the Miscallaneous Tab of the Options. ALT-Clicking on the AlphaMap will allow you to zoom in/out via left/right clicks. Without the <Alt> key pressed, then AlphaMap will remain invisible to the mouse as per current functionality.
- World Map 'Compact' veiwing mode, which will trim the world map, and only show explorable areas; so that keeping the map up on screen uses even less space.
The 'Standard'/'Compact' veiwing modes can be switched via a key binding.
NOTE : A side affect of this will mean that characters won't see areas they haven't discovered yet. If you would like to use Compact viewing mode, but STILL be able to see ALL areas in the current Map, you will need to install 'MozzFullWorldMap (Fans Update)'
- Special Battlefield options for reporting positions and incoming. (Note that the Raid Group numbered icons in the pictures are only available with the 'PartySpotter' AddOn installed)
FEATURES IN MORE DETAIL
High Quality Instance Maps :
lots of options allowing you to change the scale, alpha, the display of notes, note backgrounds, map background, Instance Header and Footer information, instance legend, the ability to change the colour of the note and/or map backgrounds.
Compatible with the latest versions of AtlasLoot (v1.60 and later). Atlas not required if you need to save memory.
Instance settings are saved separately to the World Map settings, so you don't have to change the way AlphaMap is displayed every time you enter/exit an Instance.
Or, save all Instance map settings separately allowing you to have different Instance maps set to different sizes, etc. Uncheck the box on the 'Dungeons' tab of the Options frame.
High Quality BattleGround Maps :
Minimap textured maps of Battlegrounds displaying all player units, and Battleground flags/objectives.
In Warsong Gulch, extra flag icons record which players have picked up which flags. Left click on a flag to target the carrier. Right click the flag to bring up a menu allowing you to report the flag's position to Raid/Party/General chat.
In Arathi Basin, the number of bases required to win is displayed next to your Faction's entry point. When ever the number of bases you need to win changes, a message is sent to your chat box to inform you of this. If you have the Scrolling Combat Text AddOn installed, then this message will also be displayed in the center of the screen. Right click on bases to report the number of incoming enemy to Raid/Party/General chat.
In Alterac Valley, Right click on bases to report the number of incoming enemy to Raid/Party/General chat.
As per all AlphaMap maps, the scale, alpha, and position of the maps can be changed and will be saved separately from the World Map settings or the Instance map settings.
Or, save all Battleground map settings independantly from each other allowing you to show the large Alterac Valley map at a smaller scale than the small Warsong Gulch map - Uncheck the box on the 'Battlegrounds' tab of the Options frame.
World Boss Maps & Instance Exteriors Caves :
For example, maps for Gnomeregan dungeon (before you enter the Instance), Dire Maul exterior, and Maraudon Exterior; And zoomed minimap style maps for the World Bosses Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, and all 4 of the Four Dragons. All these maps are capable of displaying player units, and all save their settings spearately from each other, and from the World, Instance and Battleground maps.
All the above maps have AlphaMap notes detailing key locations, mobs, etc. These notes can be clicked to do one or more of the following :
Left Click
- If the note leads to another map, then that map will be displayed. e.g. links between LBRS/UBRS/BWL, DM maps, etc.
- If the note has Loot noted for it, a small gold coin will be displayed next to it, and left clicking will show the AtlasLoot frame
Righ Click will raise a menu with several possible options
- You can leave a particular map note highlighted
- In Battlegrounds, there are special options for reporting the number of enemy incoming on a base, or the location of a flag carrier
- If you have NotesUNeed installed, then you can open a NotesUNeed note, or Send the NotesUNeed note text to your Raid/Party/Guild. i.e. store the tactics for a particular boss in a NotesUNeed note, and then send those tactics to your Raid via the right click menu for that boss on the AlphaMap

How do you set TomTom waypoints from the WorldMap?
(Some kind of key/mouse combo?)
I have alphamap bound to the M key, (and the original world map to Shift-M)
AlphaMap is designed to be invisible to the mouse during normal play, and only accepts mouse clicks while the ALT key is held down, or both the CONTROL & ALT keys are held down.
AlphaMap avoids simple CONTROL Clicking in order to be compatible with MapNotes AddOn for creating on-map notes and tracking them via the MiniMap. MapNotes doesn't have a 3D arrow like TomTom or Carto - but it is compatible with them so that you can create a MapNote, and then right click on it to set it as the TomTom WayPoint
I guess it might be possible to use ALT+SHIFT+Mouse click... I can't remember off the top of my head if that is used or not...

2) I have always woundered how come in the options the 2nd and 3rd tab are red and unable to click on?
3) [important and why I am posting] - Just recently (been using alpha map from classic) - The zones are showing as blank? All teh areas I have explored are still showing as nothing.... any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
1.) It's always possible, but at the moment you should post these requests over on the AlphaMap page of www.curse.com - twobits is hopefully going to take over development, and may or may not have time to add this....
2.) There is a FAQ.txt file included in the Zip - It is VERY useful, and answers your questions about the second and third tabs - and actually might show some really cool bit of functionality you didn't know about yet, like the "Compact Viewing" mode on the Miscallaneous Tab....
3.) EDIT : deleted first post answer for 3 - as I completely misread it...
If your map looks unexplored in AlphaMap - then it is usually because you are using an AddOn to show unexplored areas like Cartographer's Foglight, MetaMapFWM, or Mapster(?)....
To show unexplored areas on AlphaMap, (and the WorldMap, and the Battlefield Minimap), the ONLY compatible addon is MozzFullWorldMap (Fan's Update).
You can NOT have both MozzFullWorldMap, AND another Unexplored Area AddOn active at the same time, or things could get very wierd. Preferably, disable the other Unexplored Areas mod from the AddOn screen before logging in. (Or if you disable it from in-game, then try logging out and back in again before judging if it fixed the problem)

Mmm, OK, from what you've said it sounds like perhaps those icons are being drawn 'behind' the AlphaMap, instead of on top of it... otherwise, I'm a bit stumped. I'll try to have a look...
Are you using the AlphaMap Pause button a lot ?
Are you using the AlhpaMap HotSpot to toggle hiding of on map icons ?
Can you try using the AlphaMap Compact world view mode - see the option on the Miscallaneous Tab of the Options frame.
In Compact viewing mode, if you look at a map like the Barrens - do you see Gatherer icons on the invisible bits of map, but not on the visible parts...?
ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?
ANYONE ELSE FOR WHOM GATHERER STILL WORKING FINE?

Just lately my TomTom waypoints are not showing up on AlphaMap. They show up just fine on the world map however.
Same thing with Gatherer icons...show on the world map - not on AlphaMap.
By contrast my MapNote icons are just fine.
I noticed that if I scrolled the opacity of the AlphaMap down to almost zero, suddenly I could see the gatherer and TomTom icons.
I've tried poking around with the settings - but other than turning the gatherer icons on and off (which shouldn't even affect TomTom should it?) I can't find anything to adjust.

Mmm, I will try to see if the size of the BG objectives can be changed to use the same scale as the AlphaMap type notes....

Hiya, sorry for late reply, been very busy recently.
First, there is no way to turn off the secondary BG icons - I too find AlphaMap most useful with the same kind of Battleground setup you use, but find that player dots can obscure the on map objectives (I use PartySpotter to improve player icons) - so I find the secondary ones 100% necessary - I may think about an option to turn them off at some time in the future, but sorry, I wouldn't hold my breath.
I haven't been able to play recently, but I think you should be able to change the size of the icons themselves. With the BG map open try the following :
1.) Open the AlphaMap Options for that map
2.) Click on the Second Tab
3.) Temporarily turn ON the AlphaMap map notes
4.) Use the slider to change the size of the AlphaMap map notes
5.) Turn OFF the AlphaMap map notes again, and escape from the Options
6.) Hopefully the size of the BG objective icons will also have changed
You probably already know this, but just in case, I will mention that the BG objectives are only displayed on AlphaMap BG maps when you are actually INSIDE that BattleGround - so the above procedure should really be carried out when inside that particular BG...
Again, I'll mention that I have not had time to play recently or test the above procedure myself, so it's from memory .... let me know if it works
Hi all. First of all, i need to thanks to all the developers that have continued deploying and fixing that addon. I'm specially impressed about how well works this addon in battlegrounds (PVP Player, sorry :P)
I have a suggestion at the same time as i have a question.
I need help in order to change the variable or the piece of code that modifies or set the scale of the icons that represent objects in the battlegrounds (the icon that show the icewing tower, the mines, the flag carrier etc) I have scaled the map in order to make it useful for me. Here's a screen that shows how i use the addon:
I'm trying to see where is the line that defines this but i can't see it. I think that icons shoud be scalled by the user.
PS: yep, I'm not an english speaker so my english is so poor, sorry about that
Open alphamap.lua with an text editor (i use notepad++ for this) and go to line 4340 (you must be see this here: " and ( setting("mainmap.enable") ) then " )
delete the THEN ( so you see this: " and ( setting("mainmap.enable") ) " )
donīt forget to save after editing
then you do the right, you donīt see any error for alphamap again in the game
I hope this help you with the new version of alphamap
Just bringing the fix back to the top for now while it's needed. Nobody cares to scroll through the BS slinging below.
Someone else had already posted an error report AND a fix for the error. Your entire message after "Thank you very much" had no purpose beyond insulting the author. A numbered line-item response to my message calling out your bad behavior doesn't excuse it.
Go away, little troll - the rest of us appreciate the time and effort the authors invest in these addons, even when they aren't perfect or contain demonstrable errors. Your post was neither constructive nor encouraging.
Originally posted by JMHammer Let's see your perfect addon, AlexL. Until then, shove your insulting comments. If you have an error to report (and perhaps a fix to suggest), or a feature to recommend, let's hear it. But that insulting and puerile crap is not something anyone else cares to read here.
1) I don't write addons, but I do write programs, and I do test them before publishing.
2) It's not important what I do, because we are not speaking about it. We are speaking about publishing not tested product. And your comment proves that you totally miss the point that any product (including addon) should be tested at least once. I guess that you probably disagree, and that's why we have so many products that make our computers hang up.
3) Calling any critics as "crap" and "insulting" is really not productive tactics. Critics (in our case - it is a constructive critics about lack of testing) will bring results only if you don't shut it down.
And BTW, there was nothing "crap" or "insulting" in my post - simply because I told truth.
But TBH, what a shame!.. This means that the author not only did not make some verification (even minimal - not speaking about several days of testing) before deploying the new version. He even did not ever try to load it in WoW!
