I am not currently working on TinyTip and cannot guarantee it will ever get updated for Cataclysm. I recommend Leatrix Tooltip for low resource usage and TipTac or TipTop for a more featureful option, but with more resource usage. Thank you for your patronage.

What is TinyTip? Well, it started out as just a simple upgrade over AF_Tooltip_Mini and exploded from there. Now it shares no code with what it used to be, becoming something more, while still staying true to its name. The core of TinyTip is basically just an upgrade over AF_Tooltip_Mini, a small file around 24KB. The more modules you allow to load, the more this value increases. The goal of TinyTip is to allow you to mix and match your modules while keeping the smallest memory footprint possible. All TinyTip addons are optional.

Anyway, as you can guess, TinyTip changes the look of your GameTooltip. Here are the features found in core:


- Required only for interoperability between TinyTip addons.
- Required by TinyTipOptions and nothing else so far.

TinyTipBasic (core formating)
- Name, backdrop, and border (optional) colouring by reaction (Hostile, Friendly, etc.)
- Class coloured with raid colours.
- Level coloured by difficulty.
- Creature Type (Imp, Cat) given for Pets.
- UnitClassification (Humanoid, Undead, etc.) given for NPCs.
- Elite Status (Elite, Rare, WorldBoss, Rare Elite) added when applicable.
- (Tapped) for Tapped, (Corpse) for Corpse
- Optional Guild Names displayed. (on by default)
- Optional backdrop coloring for friends and guildies. (on by default)
- Optional Honor Rank Name or Number. (on by default)
- Optional "Hostile", "Friendly", etc. reaction text for the colour-blind. (off by default)
- Optional Compact Tooltip mode.
- English, German, French, and Chinese localization, and partial support for other clients.

- Who's targetting your tooltip mob?

In LoadOnDemand Addon TinyTipOptions

GUI Options, use /tinytip or /ttip to bring up the menu.
Only loaded if you use that slash command.

A: Go into that other addon's TOC file and add/change this line to include TinyTip.

Q: Help! I'm getting incredibly long / infinite load times with TinyTipExtras / TinyTipOptions!
A: There is a bug with Ace2 addons (specifically, AceLibrary) which was fixed in the latest revision. If possible, update your addons.

Q: I'm getting an error from TinyTip, or an option isn't working right.
A: 1) Disable all other addons and see if the problem still occurs.
2) Check my WoWI portal to see if it's a known issue, and for updates.
3) Maybe your files are corrupt. Delete TinyTip, TinyTipExtras, and TinyTipOptions, then re-download them and install from stratch.
4) Your Saved Variable database may have gotten corrupt somehow. Try using /tinytip default and then /tinytip confirm to reset it.
5) If resetting your options doesn't work, exit WoW, delete all your Saved Variable files for TinyTip (global and per character), then restart WoW.
6) Leave a bug report on my WoWI portal.

- Anchors will now only use the default game offset if you have GAMEDEFAULT set.

- Tooltip will now properly uncompact after being compacted.
- HideRace will now also hide the Creature Type/Classification. As well, you can now use 1-2 ASCII character keys for elite, rare, and other classifications instead of printing the whole word.
- TinyTip will really not reset your scale anymore. Really.

Would it be possible to make the tooltip shown when you got the pointer on a group mate show what the group mate is targetting and if someone in raid is targetting him?

i like this, because it's not "overloaded" like TipBuddy is, however i miss one simple thing: a way to have the tooltip not directly anchored below the mouse (not in the middle of the cursor), but in the lower right corner of it. i already searecher for some coordinates for anchoring in the lua file, but my coding skills suck, i couldn't find it.

the reasons for this is simply because i still want to see my target and not loosing sight because it hides behind the tolltip

i want it to be something like (C = cursor, T = Tooltip, "-" = Placeholder)

TinyTip v1.3 will be out tommorrow afternoon unless someone finds any serious bugs with my latest SVN commit. v1.3 is a HUGE update, so it needed in-depth testing (didn't want something like 1.29).

sitenote: no matter what version i use i get a nil error in line 421 (german client) whenever i'm in a raid

seems like it's part of the " number of Raid members targeting the target in tooltip" funtion

i have set it to 1 (default)

disabling the feature (setting to nil) fixes the problem

Well, You can anchor around the mouse cursor (top, center, bottom, everywhere), but You can NOT anchor at a specific coordinate on the screen!

I would like an option to show the tooltip always at the same place, which i can specify with coordinates.

Thanks for 1.3, your mod rocks!

Would it be possible to make the background color of guildies and friends slightly darker? As it is now it's too light IMO, glows and makes the text inside tooltip hard to read.

Exclamation MI2 and GFW-Hunters Helper still not working!!!


Great addon have now dumped Tipbuddy so thanks for making this appreciate it heaps.

I am still having problems like others with Mob info 2 and GFW Hunters Helper. I have added to their Toc files the optional dependeny of TinyTip as you have instructed as to do but it hasn't worked at all sorry to say. Monkey Quest worked well after changing its Toc though which is great. i don't know if changing TinyTip to !TinyTip would help to load it before the others like you have done once b4? Anyway any suggestion would be appreciated as I really do miss these to functions. Hope you can help me and others that want this to work with MI2 and Hunters Helper. Also if those of you who have got it working lets us know what you have done incase it is something esle apart from updating the Toc file please.

Alright, i still cant get the fadeout to happen for me, and this time i dug into the code to check it out. And tbh, i dont see how the current code, atleast for me, could ever work for fadeout. The event you use UPDATE_MOUSEOVER_UNIT, only fires when you mouseover a target, it never fires when you mouseout of a target. Which would mean that the first if condition will always be true no matter what. I doublechecked by adding debuggin code for the event and it never ever triggers for when you mouseout of a target, only when you aquire the target.

So is this only me that cant make tooltip fadeout work, or am i missing something very obvious?

Very dissapointing, anchoring simple doesnt work

you cant anchor this tooltip anywhere expet cursor or default blizzard anchoring place, bottomright.


it works, but it was a bit tricky to make it do so. i purged all anchoring settings then did /console reloadui and after that it start working
you cant set offx and offy if you dont use any /ttip anchor option - you should first use /ttip anchor (top,bottom whatever) then use offx offy option to tweak it

the saddesst thing, it works only with mousover targets, but action bar tooltips still appear at default blizzard location

Needs to anchor other tooltips like herb/mining nodes to the same place as unit anchor. It's getting there, but TipBuddy is still better just because I can put all tooltips in one place. I simply cannot stand mouse anchor, it's so incredibly annoying, and it seems like almost everyone making a tooltip addon loves it.
