Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.


Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.

Enclose the caster pattern match in () then use %1 in the output message.

So like (.+) begins to cast Polymorph.

Output message: %1: Poly

Caster names in trigger?

Hello I've been trying to find a spell alert mod that will only alert me on certain spell casts. Namely CC's. I decided to try to use your scrolling battle text's custom triggers for it. I can recognize a spell through the search patterns but when I display text, there don't seem to be any variables for it to replace names? (ie: %n is casting Polymorph!) I was wondering if it was possible to get casters names to display?

Additionally, I have show target damage enabled for blizzards floating combat text, but msbt seems to disable it every time I log in? Is there any way for me to make stop disabling it?

The only option is to enable Blizzard's default (the Game Damage checkbox on MSBT's General option tab). The game doesn't allow mods to get positioning information for 3D game objects such as players.

No, MSBT is for real time combat information. There isn't a way to track consecutive events.

Posted this to the addon's page for this mod on Curse.com as well:

Thinking of using this mod since I'm looking for a mod that will alert me to chain dodges (druid tank). Say I am tanking, and I start dodging a lot, this can lead to significant threat reduction (by not hitting the mob), but also allowing someone else to pull aggro by landing one or two crits during this time. I would like to know, can I set MSBT to give me a notification after I have dodged a certain number of incoming hits (like 4 consecutive dodges) into party or raid chat that lets others know I've dodged so they can ease up on their dps? Thanks.

I really like this mod, I just have one problem with it. Currently Power Gains are being shown in Notification, while I'd really like them to be in Incoming. I see how one would normally change this, however the drop down menu to let me access Notifications does not work, and is stuck on outgoing. Is there any fix for this, or will I need to manually edit the .luas for this? If so, I'm not a complete newb to coding, but I will need fairly detailed instructions on how to do this.


Well, figures the moment I post this, I alt-tab back in WoW and the menu works... normally it doesn't though, The event category menu under the Event tab.

That is a limitation of Blizzard's current combat log. If you look at the message it says "PlayerX is affected by Mace Stun." It doesn't say "PlayerX is affected by *your* Mace Stun.". Because of that, there is no way to know for sure whether it's yours or not.

That said, Blizzard is completely redoing the combat log system in Patch 2.4, and while I don't have all the specifics yet on everything they are doing with it, I suspect this will be one of the things that is no longer ambiguous with their new system.

I suspect that it's another mod doing it and MSBT is getting blamed for it though because the taint log you provided claims MSBT is accessing a frame that I'm pretty positive it isn't. MSBT doesn't do anything with any action buttons or frames that have in-combat lockdown applied to them. Therefore, at this point, I don't know how it could be responsible for any taint.

This is an excellent mod, unfortunately, I am getting some "Action blocked by addon" spam, and it appears to be related to WorldPvP objectives frame somehow.. I sent you a privmsg with more information about this, Mik, as I didnt want to spam the comment section with part of a taint.log file.

Thanks for a really cool mod. I usually use Ace mods but this one seems to actually make my stuff run smoother... I am getting used to your cool default font as well

I am in the process of adding triggers for things like blind, and mace stun effect, and they work great Very nice. The only thing I am wondering is although I know you can limit it per class, how do you set it so that when it finds a search string, it will only do it if it was YOUR mace stun effect.

Currently I have it set to search for afflicted by Mace Stun Effect however it will go off whenever anyone does it, not just me.

Just wondering if it is possible to have it only impact myself and not other players around me....

Animation styles typically only control positioning because sizes are controlled by each event, whether or not it's a crit, etc.

MSBT v5.04 lets you specify a skill name that triggers will use for their icon. As far as resizing icons, you are correct they are tied to the event size and can't be individually changed.

Czokalapik:

You are seeing limitations of the game in action. If somebody is not in your raid/party, you can not get actual HP values, and hence overhealing can't be displayed. That said, if they are in your raid/party it will always show it (unless disabled, of course)

Thanks for the info. Patch 2.4 is completely changing the way the combat log works, so I'm going to have to rewrite the whole parsing engine anyways. I'm fairly certain this, and most other ambiguities will be solved with their new event system.

Yesterday , i found a big problem in msbt5.03.

I use a Druid , when i heal others ,the number of heal don't display correctly.For example:
i use "治疗之触(Healing Touch)" heal Tom 271(no crit), MSBT display " +1 (治疗之触 - Tom27)" .You see, the number "271" is split. But ,if my heal is critical,the number is displayed correctly.

Not only Druid ,the other heal classes also have the same problem.


Today i find a way to correct it : open MSBTParser.lua ,find
" -- Convert %1$s / %s to (.+) and %1$d / %d to (%d+).

I dont know how it works , and dont know whether this problem is just only appeared in Chinese WOW.

I can't figure how can i show overhealing.... sometimes incoming heals are ok: + XX (XXX overheal) Healer - Spell, but outgoing, or some incoming shows only +XXX healer / +XX Target

How can i make MSBT to show ALWAYS (incoming and outgoing) amount of heals as +XX (XXX overheal)?

Hi there,

I have been using your addon for a while and I must say, great work. However, there are a couple of things I would like to request.
Would it be possible to make a different kind of parabola/straight animation style that goes like this:

100
100
100
100
100

I don't really have the first clue about coding, so your instructions on how to create your own animation styles don't really help me sadly.

Secondly, I've been trying to use triggers to add Power Auras like things on my screen when certain things happen (like combo points for instance) but there is no way to:
a.) use custom icons
b.) resize the icons.

If any of the above are possible, that'd rock.

Kemayo has coded LootSink, which should output to MSBT, not sure if it does the inventory count thingy.

I might have an old copy of LootAlert around... I think it's Kergoth's plug-in to do just that. I can look aroung and see if you want. But you might try LootSink, over on the WowAce files.
