Version: 5.7.131
by: Mikord [More]
Announcements:
  • Version 5.7.131 fixes the font changing issue introduced by Patch 5.4.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

Cord:

Unfortunately, there is not really a good way to do that. You could sort of simulate it with a mix of search pattern triggers and skill suppressions, but then overheal information wouldn't work and it would be rather difficult to get setup right.

Greatness:

MSBT does show when the enemy target gains things like CloS, BoP, and SR, but it doesn't show when they start casting a spell since the game has a built in target castbar to see that. I'm pretty sure Witchhunt works with MSBT as well.

The best suggestion I can give you is to try it out for a few days and see if you like it. If you find you don't care for it, you always have the option to reactivate your current setup since disabling mods does not remove any custom settings you may have.

I would also suggest you watch the video posted in the description above which should give you a good feel of what can be done with MSBT and how it looks by default.

I hope that helps.

Features

Hello,

I had a question regarding this addon. I currently use Scrolling Combat Text along with WitchHunt. These two addons work great together but I have heard that MSBT is more lightwieght.

I see in the description of the addon that it shows enemy gains. Would this addon successfully replace Scrolling Combat Text and WitchHunt as a spellalert/battletext? I like how WitchHunt notifies me through Scrolling Combat Text with messeges when my opponent in pvp gains things like: Cloak of Shadows, Blessing of Protection, Spell Reflect, and also when enemies are casting spells at me.(I'm strictly a pvper.)

It would be great if it did this as well as scroll battle text and would replace my current setup.

Thank you for any response in advance.

Hello

I have tried reading through the posts in this thread and found them very informative but was not able to find the specific information I wanted.

I am wondering, is it possible that I could differentiate between self heals vs. heals from others? For example, is it possible to not have the name of the person healing me appear along with the heal if the person is myself but continue to appear when someone else is healing me?

Situations where this would be useful would be the like of vamp embrace as well as siphon life. I ideally want to have a separate frame for my own siphon life/drain life compared to heals from healers within the raid.

M0rgoth / 123noob:

Thank you.

Parakas:

I just installed omen r53213 and icons are working without an issue for me. Make sure you have the latest version of MSBT (v5.02).

Chunkypoet:

Hmmm. MSBT doesn't do anything special when combat ends, so I don't see how that could be an issue. It really sounds like a conflict of some sort. If you can narrow it down to a conflicting mod, I will look into it.

I am also getting this lag with the new version. I have noticed that it is mainly happening when I leave combat. I am not sure if it is another mod that is conflicting with this or not, but wanted to verify this is happening.

Awesome. This feature is really what sets MSBT apart from Parrot and I will be ecstatic to see it in a usable format. Much appreciation.

For the same reason, thresholds can't work on them either. You also are probably seeing monster emotes, which again are not categorized by the game engine.

I've been sorting out some methods of cleaning it up a bit, but there are some limitations with the game that probably won't be resolved until Blizzard implements the new event system they have slated for Patch 2.4.

For now, you can turn off the notifications off completely. Events tab->Notifications->Enemy Buff Gains and Monster Emotes.
So, example then: If I added Second Wind to the skill suppression list, it would suppress the "EnemyWarrior gains Second Wind" part but it would not suppress the proceeding "EnemyWarrior gains 225 health from Second Wind."?

That just seems odd to me. Are both of these above mentioned things the same event type? If so, the Skill Suppression string search should catch both of them. If not, then the periodic parts could be on 2 separate filters and separately toggleable.

Unless you are only doing a partial string search (the part immedietly after "PlayerX gains..."). If that's the case, is it a partial or exact match? Could we say, do a skill suppresion for 0-9 so that any health/power gain would get filtered out?

Tardmrr:

Thanks for your input. I realize that some icons are missing, but it is the API calls themselves that are the problem.

MSBT actually already bases its buff/debuff gains and losses on the event you mention. The GetPlayerBuffTexture API call would certainly work when you gain a buff, but what about when you lose one? You don't get the event message until after the buff is already gone. At this point, the API doesn't return the texture any more. So, you have to cache it and rely on a mapping table, which, to my dismay, is the method that has to be used for all the skills too because the API won't give you textures for spells your character doesn't know. A missing icon is a lack of an entry in the mapping table.

I'll consider a hybrid system that combines both for a future version.

For the same reason, thresholds don't work on them either.

Is there a way to filter out all the little Enemy Buff's that spam my screen. I want things like Bubble and Death Wish and Evasion to show up, but the Second Wind and Bloodrage spam is horrible. I tried adding them to the Skill Suppression list but it did absolutly nothing.

The threshold's don't work either. It's either we see every single buff/hot/power gain they recieve, or none of them at all.

First of all, props on the icon addition. It's been the one feature that MSBT was missing over those other addons that serve a similar purpose.

I realize this is a limitation due to the fact that the combat event for gaining a buff/debuff happens before the UNIT_AURA event that makes the icon available through the buff API, but I think they should always have an icon. I see two ways to go about doing this:
(1) Change your design to use the buff events instead of combat events for buff/debuff detection.
(2) If icons are enabled and you don't yet have an icon, at each frame of animation check GetPlayerBuffTexture for the icon (remember, it accepts buff names now).

(1) is more work, but (2) is computationally more expensive.

Also, some effects originate from an item and, as a result, have the same name as the item. To give an example, consider the Mark of Defiance; when it's effect triggers, the combat message is "You gain 125 mana from Mark of Defiance." (In these cases, the item's icon should be shown. Here you can use a GetItemInfo call with ease for the texture since GII also accepts item names these days.

To your first question, yes there is a Warrior Stance secondary condition. Check out the readme to see what the parameter values for the stances are.

As far as freezes, I'm fairly certain nothing changed in 5.01 that would cause it.. I've done extensive testing with large amount of generated events against the 5.0 code base and it hasn't missed a beat. I won't rule out the possibility of an issue, but if there is, I haven't encountered it.
