Version: 5.7.131
by: Mikord [More]
Announcements:
  • Version 5.7.131 fixes the font changing issue introduced by Patch 5.4.

Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class (including CUSTOM_CLASS_COLORS support).
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

vpr:

The animation system is actually already designed with a modular registration approach, and the included API.html contains information about the structure and available calls.

The way that WoW works though is that it loads all of the code from the files specified in a .toc file when the game loads. There is only one .toc file per addon, so the only way to prevent code from loading is to make an entirely separate addon that is marked load-on-demand. That means every single animation style would have to be its own load-on-demand addon to truly prevent the code for animation styles that aren't in use from loading. As you can imagine, having to install tons of separate modules that all show up as individual addons, but are really all part of one addon would quickly become unwieldy.

An animation style that is not in use naturally won't eat CPU time, but the code to implement it is still loaded by the game engine into memory. One of the things I've requested from Blizzard before is the ability to have sub-tocs so that features/modules can truly be dynamically loadable without having to create a separate addon for every dynamic feature. My guess is they probably won't, since it would require quite a few changes, but it would be a great addition to their framework.

That makes sense - I can deal with that.

It would be possible to create an animation style like you describe, but I don't plan to add any more animation styles. Every new animation style takes up memory for the implementation code regardless of whether it is in use or not. I tend to be really careful to only add the most commonly used features to prevent code bloat as best as possible.
Forgive my ignorance, but would making the animations modular help at all? By that I mean, having only the animations that are being used loaded at all. Whilst, the other ones remain unloaded. I know you said "whether it is in use or not." but I'm not clear on if that means "loaded and in use or not."

Maybe I'll take a look and see if I can get the animation I desire - I'm not a coder though.

Thanks,
vpr

duhwhat:

No, there is only a blacklist for cooldowns. You can also modify the minimum duration that a cooldown must be before it is shown.

kriegstanz1:

You are probably experiencing that on long cooldowns due to a small amount of drift. The cooldown system in MSBT is designed so it doesn't have to requery the length of the cooldown on every single frame update unlike most other implementations. This means it takes a lot less CPU time (one of the biggest design goals of MSBT), but it also means it can slightly drift on long cooldowns.

MAddzor:

You can add Rampage to the Spam Control->Skill Suppressions list. That will prevent it from showing.

Undermine2k:

No, there is not an option for that. They are quite a few buff/debuff mods that have that capability though, and I would imagine some of them can output via MSBT.

Dogarth:

The Blizzard spam is in a different frame and not handled by MSBT. There are a few mods like ErrorMonster that are designed specifically for dealing with that default Blizzard error spam.

faustobucci:

It depends on specifically you want to see. Kidney shot is a debuff so that would be Events->Notification->Debuffs. Incoming spells fall under Events->Incoming Player->Skill Hits, Skill Crits, and Skill DoTs, etc depending on which event types you want to see.

Mahatef:

Aura Removal
Skill Name - Is Equal To - Seal of Command
Recipient Unit Affiliation - Is Equal To - You

janwing:

You gain a buff when lock and load procs, so you just need a typical aura application trigger for it.

Aura Application
Skill Name - Is Equal To - Lock and Load
Recipient Unit Affiliation - Is Equal To - You

Lock and Load

Hi peeps,

Need a bit of help. I'am not the best with add ons.
I'am a survival hunter

I need a new trigger in MSBT. I want a signal when my "Lock and Load" triggers
I figured out the part of making a new trigger.
But i do not know wich conditions to set for it.

Lock and Load has a chance to trigger
* 100% when i trap a target
* 10% when my serpent sting is up on the target

Hope some of you can help me

Great Addon :-).

I was hoping you can help me with a small configuration.
I play a paladin, and the buff Seal of Command is on me all the time. when it fades out, i want to make a trigger to notify me about it. not the normal trigger for the other buffs as well, but a specific one for this buff who will look different from the others (font, size, etc).
how can i do that? i couldn't find a right category in the trigger section.

Incoming enemy skills/abilities?

First of all ty for the great mod.

What is the event that needs to be enabled to show with which ability i get hit?

So, for example, i can see if i get hit by a cheap or kidney shot, same for incoming spells... I have disabled all events and just set up few triggers so I am not sure which event(s) i should enable.

TY

Great Addon!

Been refining and configuring this over SCT & SCTD on many of my alts and main, and finding it much more to my liking. Thanks for your time and effort on this!

A side note/question before i go installing another seperate addon for blizzard built in spam...

Is there any way to dig into blizzards spam of stuff and skills such these;

Ability is not ready yet.
Out of range.
There is nothing to attack.
Target to close.

These are some of the few that on the top of my radar and just take away from my screen space quite regularly...

Cooldown Lag

Hi,

I just started trying out MSBT over SCT, as I needed cooldown support.

Seems great so far, but I've noticed a 1 second (approx) cooldown between a skill being available and the appropriate "%s is Ready!" message popping up on my UI. I don't see this using SCT-Cooldowns (but SCT-Cooldowns is missing a lot of functionality).

Is this lag normal?

Thanks again.

is there a way to whitelist cooldowns rather than blacklisting all but the ones you want to hear/see?

Is there a way to set animation styles on the event level rather than the scroll area level?

I want to have different animation styles for different events... I guess the work around would be to create a new scroll area that overlaps the same position as the other one and set the animation different for that area, but that seems a little inefficient in my mind.

Also would it be possible to create a new animation where the text moves up (either straight up, or arcing very subtly up) then slides left or right - picture an upside down "L" and/or upside down and mirrored "L"

Finally - is this a problem w/ MSBT or Chatter:

Chatter has a highlight system that will look for your name (or other keywords you add) in chat and alert you in case you're not paying attention (like me) which I've told to route through MSBT. I've only blackened out names and previous chat because that's not important.

MSBT is not detecting the cooldown finish on Explosive Shot / Arcane Shot for Survival Hunters. This applies both to cooldown notification and custom cooldown finish triggers.

Ellipsis (my timer bar addon) detects it, so there must be some MSBT-specific issue.

Ah, I see what you're asking. No, there isn't a log event to trigger on in that case. It would have to be done with some kind of timer or other events for which there aren't any trigger options.
