Description:

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.


Features:
  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.

I just wanted to say thank you for creating the best mod that I have used in my WoW career

Somehow, I only heard about this mod today. Within the first 10 combats using the mod, I fell in love! Keep it up!

G'day!

1st off thanks for this addon. Simply love it. However, since WoTLK came out.. I face some sort of graphical freezes specially during instances or raids where I'd be tossing dmgs and stuff. But when I wasnt doing anything (ie deathlul), I dont face any freezes or whatsoever. Ive tried searching for the cause of it and it appears fo be this, MSBT. I also noticed that only few hv this problem ever since WoTLK came out. Are there any suggestions for this?

Yea I agree, but I wouldn't know how to add that from scratch so I had to work with what I had lol.

That is interesting because MSBT doesn't change the clearcasting sound by default. It would have to be selected specifically for the clearcasting trigger, and even then it wouldn't override the default sound since afaik mods can't disable the default sounds short of replacing sounds files.

As far as having different sounds per character, you can make a new profile that has the unique settings you desire and select that profile on the appropriate character. MSBT will remember which profile each character last selected.

Condition or Exception Request

I have an odd request for you. I'm trying to make a Death Knight trigger that will alert me to use Death Coil when my runic power crosses a certain threshold, but only if I already have Unholy Blight active. There's no conditional for active buffs and there's no exception for inactive buffs. Is there anything way to achieve what I'm trying to do?

EDIT: GOT IT TO WORK!

I had to edit some of the lua to allow for a buffactive conditional option to be available under the Runic Power Change event (It'll actually be available to all power change events I believe). I have no programming knowledge, whatsoever, it just took some common sense but I still wouldn't recommend trying to do it yourself unless you feel comfortable. If anyone requests, I'll post detailed instructions to recreate what I did, I only added 3 lines of code total. Hopefully, it'll be included in a future update.

Also, just wanna say thanks to Mik for an awesome mod and for putting such thorough comments in the lua. Really helped me solve my problem. I would definitely recommend this mod over the competition.

Hello again!
Well I'd have to really test it in detail, but I went ahead and set my profile back to default. Then I made a custom trigger for when I summon a Ghoul (and added a sound to that trigger). Now when I hide every scroll area the custom trigger still shows up. Also +Combat and -Combat show up when everything is hidden.

Use default game sounds

I'm trying out MSBT, but I am having a problem with the sound for Clearcasting. I vastly prefer the in-game sound for that, but it appears to be missing since installing MSBT, instead using the sounds from the addon. I've tried changing the sound to None, but then no sound plays.

For my main, it triggers when Omen of Clarity procs, but I also have a mage with Clearcasting, and I'd like it to sound for her as well. How can I do this?

Re: Sound Error

Maldazzar:

You could move the scroll area over slightly to the right so the icons do not overlap the HUD, but naturally the text without icons would also be slightly further right as well.

The quickest fix is to remove the spaces you've added from Low Health and Low Mana like so:

I have made some adjustments to the sound file to add some custom sounds and everytime I log in I get: MikScrollingBattleText-5.3.32\MSBTSounds.lua:14: '}' expected (to close '{' at line 11) near 'Health'. My Sound File looks like this.

well, I have a HUD in the middle of my screen, with incoming on the left (going around the health bar), and outgoing on the right (going around the rage bar)


The problem is, as you can see, the icon for outgoing isn't part of the left alignment of the frame -- the text wraps around the bar perfectly, but the icon clips through.

One solution would be to individually modify each outgoing event and move the icon to the end (which I plan on doing if there's no way to include the icon in the alignment), but that will be a bit tedious.

There is not a specific trigger reset option in the UI (aside from resetting the profile as you pointed out), but you can modify the saved variables file while you are not in the game (World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<LoginName>\SavedVariables\MikScrollingBattleText.lua)

Look for the triggers entry and delete it along with all the trigger in it.

Example:

Notice the closing brace for the triggers entry will be horizontally aligned, so you can use that fact to easily locate the closing brace. In the above example, everything listed would be deleted. Make sure you are careful when you delete it or you'll end up corrupting the profile.

Icons are anchored to the left side of the text and the alignment is based upon the text, so without seeing exactly how you're trying to align it, my guess is that the answer is that there isn't an option for it.

Is there a way to restore the default triggers without resetting the profile? Somehow, half went missing and I don't know how to get them back.

I also can't find an option to align messages with icons (does one exist?) The way it is right now, MSBT treats icons as nonexistent for alignment purposes -- making it very hard to build a symmetrical UI.

Can you give me specific events that are making it through? It shouldn't be displaying anything with the scroll area disabled, but if you can provide me with which events are still showing, I'll look into it.
